After the disappointment of last Saturday we go again tomorrow against a strong play off contender. If we are to get into the playoffs we need to win about 6 of the last 7 games and certainly ones against other play off contenders. As a team we have been on great winning runs in the past and its certainly not beyond us. As i was told on the return journey last week ,we have to keep the faith,so let's see if the team can get maximum points over Easter.

We're facing the team with the best away form in the league, and in all honesty we've not been at our very best over the last couple of weeks.
Get a result tomorrow, and that could be enough to spark quite a grandstand finish for the end of the season.
Our last home 4 games are against the current 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th place sides in the league. It couldn't be any tougher but win those and make the play offs, we will win the play offs with such momentum. For those who think that's the be all and end all (which I'm sure there are some), every match is a cup final now.
For the rest (for which I am one), just going out there and giving our best and ending up in a top half finish for the 2nd season running is still a massive achievement.

Stockport have drawn on their two previous visits to GGL, but may be expecting to do better tomorrow. Several fans on their forum are confident of victory.
They've won four of their last five away (the exception being a 1-0 defeat at Barrow), but all but one of their last ten results have either been draws (including their last four at home) or settled by the odd goal. So this is likely to be another tight match.
Having returned to League Two last year as National League champions, they're now fifth in the table, five places and seven points above us. Their manager Dave Challinor has of course faced Matt before when in charge of Hartlepool, including on a memorable afternoon in May 2021. One of our scorers that day was Tanto, now a Stockport player, though he remained on the bench for their last game.
Our players might still be feeling aggrieved about Omar's very early red card at Edgeley Park in October, when we were beaten 3-0, and that might provide a little extra motivation.
I expect a crowd of well over 3,000 for this one.👊

Neil Hair is the ref tomorrow. Apparently we've had him 4 times and won all 4 games while Stockport have had him once and lost. Let's hope he's a good omen.
Incidentally Sam Allison (who i thought was the best ref we had last season) is reffing the Wigan v Swansea game in the Championship on Monday

Bank holiday, weather set reasonably fair, Stockport have apparently sold out their tickets allocation…… the crowd should reach 4k I’d have thought.

I wouldn't get too excited about supposed omens.

Bumped into a few of the players this week and their spirits are good - to a chap they told me (4/5 of them) they have some big games ahead and are confident of a good end to this season - 🤞⚽️
Should be fun tomorrow.

No surprise at the lack of goals in this one. The positive of all this is it’s the end of the season rather than the beginning. If this was the start to next you’d be worried, but our lack of goals is being really exposed and gives us the chance to freshen up and change it over close season. Great crowd numbers today.

Season over now and as Gareth said our lack of goals has really shown up. Thought the game would be a close one and it showed, two similar sides. A mid table finish is not bad at all, but next season we must have a bit more creativity and goals, so much for Matt to think about. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Must agree with previous posts. Season over. But a good one especially after the bad early season injuries the team have had. Surely, The management team have got the rest of this season and the summer mid season to sort out the problem of the lack of goals. To today's game.Very hard and physical. But what was that ref doing. He completely missed a lot.Should have cut some of that Hair.Futher comments no doubt from other posters.

The season is over at 230pm on Mon 8th May at the earliest.
A season isn't over with 6 games to go.

When are the shackles going to come off? . We are so predictable. Change the front two on 70 minutes. Why not leave one on at 1-0 down if play offs were seen as possible. Difference in class showed.
The injury list grows and I see us getting few points between now and the end of the season. Big rebuilding project needed in the close season.

The loss of Eastmond so early on was a significant factor but even before he went off Stockport were winning the physical battles. They were niggly and tough and played Sutton at their own game but had that extra quality and mobility all over the pitch. They deserved their win.
Based on that performance they’re what Sutton should aspire to be this time next season.

We’ve still got excellent foundations and our defence is signed up for next season.

I’m not at all going to be critical of the team after a fantastic season, where we should finish in the top 10, but I did get a bit frustrated this afternoon, when we had ample chance to get the ball in the box or shoot from 20 odd yard and we declined for a sideways pass. I think at this stage of the season, a few mores risks can be taken. That said, 6 games to go and all to play for.
