If we do not do the upgrades then it speaks volumes about our future plans. To do them this summer would show intent to get back into the league. But I suspect we have no money and need to attend to debt first, I worked out roughly each share based on last set of accounts were at a minus value. There was an interview with one of the board members and he said if the club ever got to the championship, that the ground would get a major development, so the park side off the ground will get done at some point me thinks. The board really do want too get back in the league and as they have said this is not the end just the beginning, so we must trust them to get us back.⚽️⚽️

These shares have no monetary value as such as they can't be traded. It's not a stockmarket type shareholding.

I think its understandable for them to invest in what's needed most. An extra stand was for league regulations, not because we needed a new stand. New stands are always nice but training facilities and a decent squad who can compete will likely be priority. If we do well enough to go back up, then attention can go back on the new stand. Thats how I would see it. That said, we may be obligated to build it.

After our relegation it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't go ahead. You can't go back into the Football league without it being done. Surely you can. Any club getting promoted will be allowed time to add whatever facilities are required at that particular time (unless of course we are talking a grass pitch). It won't matter if they are a new or previous EFL club.

The main stand is 70 years old. That can’t have too many miles left on the clock.

As far as I understand it, the club has been viewed to have been given the time already so being if they got re promoted it would be expected to have been done upon ground grading 2 months before end of season.
Although this season the club must still play under efl rules, which is a bit confusing but might mean the deadline of this summer still needs adhering to for development works?

I think you are right that we are still obligated to build the stand, but it can be temporary. We may unfortunately have to lose terracing we would have preferred to keep.

Crawley Town have a “temporary” seated stand that holds (at a guess) about 2,500 that has been in place for 10+ years. I believe the small open terrace is still in-situ underneath it.
Given my understanding of the commitments Sutton has to ground improvements (basically doubling the existing seating capacity, I think) and the stated ambition to get back up to L2 ASAP, then it wouldn’t surprise me if an abbreviated version of Crawley’s “temporary” stand was installed on the Collingwood Rec side. It would probably just require removal of the existing roof and back cladding and then the new stand could be built quite quickly and relatively cheaply.
It wouldn’t look good, but it might be the realistic short to medium term option?

At least the playing surface is being relaid. Click thumbnails to enlarge.

Probably no interest from the fans for buying a square of turf of when we were relegated from the league two.

I’m no expert but if we looked after the pitch a little more during the season would we have to relay it completely every year?

We have had one of the wettest autumn to spring periods on record.
There have been a number of teams playing on it.
Would that not suggest to some on here why the pitch ended up like it did?
Anyone who remembers the GGL pitch will recall what it was like pre 3G. The ground is London Clay and that holds water and we have had plenty of that since October.
If it's too wet all the time, the groundsman can't get on it fully.
Palace Ladies got promoted to WSL so the need for a far better surface for them but also as a good advert for the club as they are likely to be on TV a fair bit.
It is a possibility (I don't know) that Palace may be helping with cost of what looks like a brand new surface.

It was rumoured that if CP were promoted they would pay towards installing a better pitch.
The thing about the old pitch, is that yes its been a wet winter, but good modern pitches shouldn't get muddy, because the turf is grown on a substrate and not soil.
