It may well have been but underneath is still London Clay and the combination of that and rainfall records being broken plus high usage ain't conducive a long term pristine surface.

As I understand it, there was a technical fault under the surface which affected the quality of the surface during the wet months, and this took its toll with the heavy usage.
The surface is a hybrid surface with has some plastic within it and should be able to handle a few games a week.
I would hope that if it was a fault then the firm who laid it will be responsible for the works underway? Unless we (and who ever else is interested) have decided a better type of surface was required.
Its odd how this kind of news is not on the website. Ok its not a big deal I suppose, but surely news worthy.

I don't think it's odd. Why advertise that oops, our pitch wasn't as good as we expected, so we've got to replace it? As far as most fans are concerned the season ends, they go away and they come back next season and as long as there's a functioning pitch nobody will be too bothered about how it got there.
Besides, it's public knowledge that all our friendlies are away this year because our pitch is being worked on.

I can well remember being glued to live stream footage, anxiously looking at tractors going backwards and forwards across our pitch, much to the amusement of the rest of my family!

I think that was a bit different for a couple of reasons 1) The change of pitch was part of a series of changes that were new and exciting due to them taking place because we were entering the EFL for the first time and therefore it all held a certain fascination 2) The anxiety was due to a vague fear that we wouldn't get it done in time to get into the EFL. There's no such fear about being accepted into a lower league! 3) It was 2021. We weren't allowed to get out much

Given we installed a decent hybrid pitch after promotion that we have since managed to do business with Palace for, and considering how bad condition it was in last winter, I think the replacing of the surface is certainly news worthy, and shows that efforts have been made. Its positive that we will hopefully see a better playing surface next season...

As I understand it, most (if not all) Premier League clubs relay their pitch every summer, not because they are in bad condition but because relaying maintains the quality over years. And most of those pitches only get used once a fortnight plus cup games (some stage occasional women's games too, but they don't cause the same wear and tear). So maybe we would have relaid the pitch anyway given the number of games (and weather) it had to survive.

I was expecting to see some work on the Park side of the ground. May be the stand won’t happen now that we are back down, but will happen some time in the future. Also there is a pavilion to be built for the foundation charity, so I’m sure the club will announce What’s happening over the summer.⚽️⚽️⚽️

Whatever happened to the monies raised for the pavilion project. They were supposed to be ring fenced but not been mentioned anywhere.

In which case it would make sense to assume that nothing has happened to them.
The money wouldn't have been enough for the project on its own so presumably the club is hanging onto it until we are able to raise enough to go ahead.

I think I remember hearing that the club had the money to build the pavilion, but had to raise the money for the fitting of the interior which they did. Because it’s a foundation charity the money had too be raised witch takes time and also they might incorporate the pavilion when the new stand is built.⚽️⚽️⚽️

One issue is the money raised all those years ago won't cover as much of the work it would have previously.
