I cannot remember the last time I saw on paper a potentially fully experienced squad to win games but today they totally not only achieved their objective but exceeded it by a mile. I thank the lord we have Matt as an inspirational manager 🙏

The more I watch Omari’s header the better it gets.

Got to say, I didn't expect that, if someone told me it was going to be 5-1 today, I would have said at least we got one. I actually feared a bit when they went down to 10, remembering how difficult we found it last season against Walsall at home. We saw a little last week of the, Kashket,Patrick and Coley combination which which looked postive, but for them to come together like they did today was fantastic. Another positive was picking up a win treble on us, Gills and MK Dons On to Tuesday to show it wasn't a first day fluke...

Great start.
No doubt the sending off effected the score line (which despite protests, was a clear red) but they seemed to struggle with our pace and pressure from the get go and we could have won about 8 - 1.
A good three points to kick off the season. But for me what was most pleasing is seeing our new players wearing amber like they have been for many seasons. And our old crew looking back to their best.
Too many good performances to list them all but will call out Omari's two fine goals.
Early days but lets hope the team can keep growing and getting better, and lets get that 50 points out of the way!

Congratulations chaps, fully deserved win for you yesterday, before the game on here I said you might get some joy from set pieces, and pointed out we had a new keeper… little did I know both would come into play within the first 15 minutes!
As soon as we went down to 10 at already a goal behind I felt it was probably game over as a contest, a man down against a team as well organised as a Matt Gray one will always be a struggle. Sutton exploited the extra man ruthlessly and although we had a little go you were just too sharp and clinical, aided by a couple of bits of poor defending from us. When Patrick scored I noticed Gray punch the air and point at the directors’ box - presumably a ‘cheers for signing this guy for me’, and rightly so - he was fantastic. As was Sowumni at the back, a few of our fans were wishing we had signed him over the summer.
Back to the drawing board for us, at least it was the first game and we have plenty of time to iron out any deficiencies. But if you can keep the majority of your squad fit I think you could be in for a really decent season.
See you at Meadow Lane!

Certainly wasn't expecting that. Ok, they went down to ten but that was down to their own failings and for all their possession they rarely threatened. I have no idea how much McGoldrick is costing them but while he might score a shed load, unless they sort out their defensive frailties, no way are they threatening the title.
That said, massive credit to the Sutton lads for a fantastic performance that, following pre-season, didn't look likely. Perhaps Matt's dislike for pre-season rubbed off on the players because they were up for it from the start. All the new guys did really well. Omari P will take the plaudits, Harry S scored and Josh C's brilliant cross set up another. However, Scott Kashket's unselfish running and pace was the catalyst for the win. He earned the corner for Joe K's opener and of course the red card was for the foul on him. He hit the crossbar too.
That was U's best opening day victory since Stefan Payne's hat trick on debut helped to a 4-0 defeat of Margate, Aug 15, 2009 in the Isthmian League.
The last time U's scored five on OD was Aug 17, 1991 against Dagenham on the club's return to the Isthmian after relegation from the GMVC. It finished 5-3. You have to go back to Aug 19, 1967 for a better OD win, 5-0 v Clapton in the Isthmian.
So, a brilliant start but one swallow does not make a summer (certainly this year!)

Seen the highlights: Must say that performance is one of the very best in the last ten years or more, the whole team were out standing the movement and play up top is as good as any team I’ve seen in this league in the last two seasons, just did not stop running. A shout out for Omeri Patrick with two great goals the first was a peach. So well played and what a find. So now onwards and upwards.⚽️⚽️

Patrick said in his post match interview they'd been practising that exact move and finish in training so it may have been something to do with that.

So after standing in weather that was more like October or November Sutton won 5-1 what I love about the new players it all seemed to have bought into the Matt and Sutton mentality of we all play together as a TEAM. Let's hope we carry this on and enjoy the football that was played on Saturday. I know we will face stronger challenges during the season and the return to Notts County will not be as easy as Saturday. Good Luck to the U's for the coming season.
