Whilst it initially made me laugh the hands behind the ears at the first goal and then Smith’s waving to their keeper has not gone down well on the NC forum.
The players do represent the club after all.
I am not a fan of winding up the opposition crowd, especially as it happened last season too. Yes we were on the receiving end at some games but in my opinion it is something the officials should consider taking action against.

Brilliant performance and we shouldn't get above ourselves. Dynamic start and I was impressed by the late introduction of the more experienced players. At the time I feared Matt had done the subs too early but all worked out in the end.

I think that taunting/goading the oppo or the oppo supporters is bad form, shows absolutely no class and reflects badly on the image of our club. Worse still this kind of incitement could lead to crowd disorder. There is no way that you need to curb celebrations when scoring, you just dont need to cup your ears or shush the opposing fans. I was angry at Walsall the season before last as many supporters were when they scored from the spot. Furthermore we dislike the fact that other teams believe us to be nothing but over-physical and unsophisticated thugs on the pitch; being wind-up merchants will only serve to re-inforce that unfortunate thuggish stereotype if we continue to act this way.

Again, totally agree 100%. Why not celebrate near our own fans, instead of deliberately running towards the away fans? We ask our supporters for correct behaviour, so maybe players should follow suit.

I’m not sure it’s an unconscious decision to celebrate in the corner as it is physically the longest distance back to our own half. No coincidence either that all of the players except the goalkeeper join the huddle. Difficult to caution 10 players.

To be honest I didn’t notice the ear cupping from Smith for the first goal (I think I maybe saw Kizzi shush the away end), but that wouldn’t really bother me, it’s gone on for years. But what really wound the Notts fans up was Smith repeatedly waving goodbye in our keeper’s face after he was shown the red card, then goading the away end when it reacted. It might stem from a game late last season when we beat Barnet 4-1 while Smith played for them which featured a controversial goal (we played on when a Barnet player was down ‘injured’) and really upset the Bees’ lot.
I said earlier a Matt Gray side would usually punish a team with 10 men, completely forgetting the last time we played Notts also had a man sent off, but went on to actually win 3-2 at Meadow Lane with a last minute penalty. Saturday was certainly payback for that, and the game at GGL earlier in the season where we also scored a last gasp winner!

The 1 0 at GGL would have been daylight robbery had it not been an evening fixture.
Apparently, the County players were shattered after. They said they couldn't believe how fit the Sutton team was and how they kept the level for the whole match.

It’s because the pitch side camera was there, the same at the home end where the photographer was. The players try to get good pictures. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

The players get a lot of stick from fans so I have no issue with a bit if ribbing back. As long as its not oushed too far. A cheeky hand to the ear i have no issues with, we dont want to police the game too much and drain the soul out of it, only when really nessesery. As for Smith, it was a bit pushy and not the best example set, but the keeper knew what he did and was still complaining. Just one of those things, I dont think the reff should be getting too involved in these things..

I for one hate the goading of opposition players and fans (by players after goals/incidents). I always want my team to be the "good guys" particularly when the other side is dishing it out (not County actually but we can all think of many others!). Always the best thing to do is to beat them fair and square and leave the antics to others. We thrashed Notts County on Saturday by playing some great football. Before the highlights came out, the County fans forum was all about "no complaints, good side, sending off wasn't the reason" after the highlights were shown everything was then about what a bunch of @$%£$%s we are?!
Also, I think the ref should definitely get involved in such matters. Much worse, in my opinion than ripping your shirt off after scoring which is a mandatory yellow (mind you I don't like that either- and, unbelievably, players still do it (cant find "head in hands" emoji!))
I'm still "play up and play the game" and I know that that doesn't stand much of a chance in this day and age, however I believe that the general code of conduct of SUFC, on and off the pitch still matters to enough people in the right places and for as long as this continues to be the case .....#ForeverAmber

I would not dream of telling the players how they should and should not celebrate their goals, but I think it would be so much nicer if they celebrated them with the fans who've been supporting them through the match rather than taking the opportunity to rub it in the opposing fans' faces. I don't like that sort of negative behaviour from fans or players.

Only managed to see the extended highlight, but on the basis of that all I can say is wow. Straight out of the blocks we not only so much better than last season, but than the season before. The goals were quality, and maybe Notts made us look good, but how many times last season did we fail to take advantage of playing against 10 men? We invariably struggled when we were given an advantage like that, but that was nowhere near the case on Saturday. Not only did we score 5 great goals, but only the woodwork stopped it being 7. And it also looked like even without the dismissal we probably would still have had the 3 points. Stronger on the pitch, tactically spot on and just a feeling of teamwork that was missing from the last third of last season. I'm especially pleased for Harry B getting his goal after what was a torrid season last year, knocked for 6 with his hernia and his obvious fitness struggle for the remainder of the season, justifying the faith Matt had in him and again showing what a canny operator Matt is.
I know it's early days, but this squad is already living up to its potential. The next 2 league games will tell us more against 2 sides who also got very good results away at sides who could well be up near the top come next April, but for now I'm enjoying the moment.

I totally understand the caution for taking your shirt off and I cannot understand why players still do it - although they're not the most intelligent of people. I remember a few years ago Diego Forlan scored (may have been disallowed) and he ripped his shirt off. Then he was running around for a several seconds without his shirt on. Also if there's no punishment what's to stop a player just taking his shirt off confusing everybody.
