So much for our vulnerability being mainly after the 60-minute mark. Giving the opposition a 3-0 headstart inside the first half-hour is no way to end a losing streak. The defending for the first and third goals was embarrassing, while the second, a shot from a free man on the edge of the area, was too similar to the one we conceded against Forest Green.
We did at least win the remainder of the game 3-2, but we were never back on level terms, and pushing for that equaliser left us exposed to counter-attacks.
As others have noted, there are rather obvious weaknesses in the defence at the moment. Matt's options to switch things round at the back are limited, but there surely have to be changes for next Saturday's match.
That's six straight league defeats now (and only one win in our last 18 league matches, going back to last March), with only Doncaster keeping us off the foot of the table. Of course there's plenty of time to turn things round, and I still think this Sutton side is capable of a comfortable mid-table finish. But equally, none of us should be in denial about the possibility of a return to the National League next year. With each result that doesn't break the run of defeats, that shifts closer to being a likelihood.

In all honesty, a return to the National League is always a possibility.
And it remains a possibility until we pass that magic 50 point mark. Whether that happens in March or the last day of the season is irrelevant as long as we pass it.
There is a potential 117 points still up for grabs. Get 47 of those and we're fine. No team has ever been relegated in September.
2 seasons ago, Bristol Rovers were 22nd after 7 games. They ended the season promoted. There is a hell of a long way to go

There is a hell of a long way to go I’m loving the optimism and in fact I fully agree . That said , I now also fully believe in reincarnation because anybody who still believes we are not in a relegation dogfight must have had a previous life as a band member on the Titanic ……. “ Don’t worry lads , the water has not reached the deck yet so keep on playing “ ! The one thing we must do though is get behind the playing team and our management team , home form is going to be super critical this season in my opinion .

The dispenser was ripped off the wall as well. Could only have been some idiot in our section. Whoever the perpetrator is needs to take a good look at themselves. Either grow up or please go and latch onto another club.

I rather doubt that the paper towel distributor is a member of this forum. More likely to be on the Facebook group.

Someone told me there were cameras in the loo's, if that is correct then someone could end up being in trouble if it was deliberately broke.

Back to the game. I thought N’Guessan had a solid game yesterday. It’s a shame his first league start was in such a poor team performance. Hopefully he will get another 90 minutes on Saturday.

Well if our last twenty minutes can be played in the second half we might get something from this game. Can I just say commentary on Ifollow one of the best I have had the pleasure to listen to on this service very balanced! Maybe if the commentator (common?) spoke proper English. One instance the word is TOGETHER - not togevver. And there were several instances I cringed at.

But if this is the commentator that I'm thinking of then he's a bit of a conundrum. Imo. On the one hand, the content of the commentary is very good. Which is the most important thing. On the other hand, the inabiltity to acknowledge the presence of the letter 't' in certain words really does push the glottal stop envelope. It's 'Sutton' not 'Su'on'. And (especially) it's 'Beautyman' not 'Beau'man'. We all have regional accents, true. But there is also a thing called correct pronunciation. The former does not eclipse the latter. It's not so much that these 't's are in a slight, Londonesque, abeyance as blasted off into permanent, deep space, exile.

Completely agree, although I’m a Yorkshireman so never use “the” in a sentence.

It seems to me the commentator using Su'on is demonstrating a perfect local Saarf Lunnon accent. 60 years ago I was told it hadn't arrived South of Carshalton Ponds, but I guess it has now. Moving at the age of six, I had to try to lose the perfectly clear consonants of Birmingham though with mangled vowels - and pick it up. However I know instead about 30 local children astounded or horrified their parents with a passable Orright maite? learnt in return.

Except that in this context he's being a commentator. Which, I'll say by definition, requires verbal clarity. Not everyone who is listening to him will be from S. London. Or au fait with S. London pronunciation. Nor is it obvious that a rapidly spoken 'Bew'man' means Harry Beautyman. If we were playing a North Eastern club and listening to a commentator speaking in broad Geordie or Mackem, how well would we manage? I know we're a small club but I think we can be a bit less parochial than that.

Question. What is our record over the past 14- 15 league games ( This ,and the end of last season? ) By my reckoning, it's just one win and four draws in the last 18 league games, ie 7 out of a possible 54 points. Another sobering statistic is we've already conceded 16 league goals in seven games this season. It took 13 games to reach that total in 2022/23. On the plus side we've scored 10 so far this season compared with 7 at the same stage last. Another plus, of course, is our comparative record in the League Cup. Over to you, Matt...
