Not made a comment in many a while. But what a joy Matt Gray has done for this club but tonight has to be the end. He has completely run out of ideas and it has to be the end.

It has been unacceptable for weeks now. The squad as a collective don't look L2 standard. Can't do basics like 10 yard passes without cheaply giving away possession or being able to defend balls into the box time and again.
We look clueless, don't know our best XI, chopping and changing the lineup and formation from one game to the next desperately trying to find something that clicks.
I love Matt Gray but I have supported Sutton for 24 years and I don't care what Matt has achieved before, it is clear he's taken us as far as he can. His style of football has never been the best to watch but the workman like effort was endearing and it brought results. However when it doesn't work it is horrible to watch.

Watched on iFollow tonight. Sorry, but that was pretty absysmal. Confidence looks rock bottom. Passing all over the shop. Look scared with the ball at our feet. We don't even look even remotely likely to score from open play. Easty looks like he'll be out for a while. Massive, massive problems.
How on earth have things got to this.
P.s At the time of writing, Coley just totally fluffed a one-on-one...

Extremely poor tonight. Very disappointed with the side put out. Negative in the extreme against a side that results suggest were there for the taking. Took 80 minutes to press at all and we then created 2 great chances. Not sure what the plan was tonight.

Our shape was really odd today. Why would you play clay that far forward? The mystery is are the tactical instructions inept, or are the pkayers failing to carry them out?
Salford tore us apart in wide areas with ease. What are we doing on the training ground, keepy uppies? Simple situations turned into chances time and time again because we can't do the basics. Clay in particular has been so inept. He can't play a 1 yard pass right and we'd be better off playing someone from the youth team.
Too many players happy to pick up a paycheck. It's clear how little fight is in this team. Might have been different with Smith starting, as he created two big chances and gave us a focal point. Hish hasn't got any of the attributes needed to play lone striker, but if we can't defend basic situations we could have haaland up front and we'd still lose.
Think gray may have missed the chance to turn it around now after that showing, especially with easty injured again. Gray looked like he knew it too. Need fresh ideas or at least someone who can get into this team and sort them out because we look incapable of getting even close to enough points.

I watched Palace in the old stylee Division 1 in I think 80/81 when they were relegated having been bottom practically all season. They were as good as relegated before the turn of the year. I can see that happening to us.

Absolutely shambolic performance this evening. Embarrassing. Never looked like we'd get anything from the game the way the side was set up. Very poor throughout the team. Too many changes to the side - they looked like they'd never played together before. The table doesn't lie - we deserve to be bottom. Too predictable, too slow, no energy, no fight, no pride, no composure, no idea. Much as I admire and praise Matt Gray for what he's done for the club surely he has to do the honourable thing and resign. If we continue as we are we'll end up with less than 20 points and certain relegation.

4/5 games ago, it was a case of once we win a couple of games, we’ll get out the bottom 2 and start climbing the table.
Now, if we do win a couple of games, there is a fair chance we’ll still be in the bottom 2. That’s mentally tougher to accept.
I have no answer as to when, where or how these wins will appear, and by the looks of things, neither do the management or players.

Almost lost for words now ……… almost but not totally !
On Saturday I said “Taxi for Matt Gray “ but NOT tonight . Forget the taxi , I will drive him myself if the club gives me a call . I genuinely like the guy and he has been superb for us but surely enough is enough ? The only reasons I can think of for not letting him go are listed below with the help of previous excuses on this forum ;
1) Sutton Utd is not a sacking club,
2) it is only Tuesday and we still have three days to prepare for our next debacle ,
3) Sutton Utd cannot afford to sack Matt and hire in somebody else ,
4)Matt has not lost the dressing room ,
5) we were really unlucky tonight against Salford and the referee hates us ,
6) Both Salford goals were lucky because they both hit the back of our net and they kept on not letting us score ,
7) Matt is a nice guy and has done great for us ( actually both are very true )
8) It is only early October and no rash decisions should be taken before 30th April 2024,
9) We should have had seven penalties tonight but did not because the referee still hates us ,
10) Some of the players are not yet match fit ,
11) Some of the players are confused which side they should be passing the ball to , so not Matt’s fault ,
12 ) The chef at the training ground is too good and is making the players too fat , so again not Matt’s fault ,
13). The ball was the wrong colour tonight
14) Sutton Utd has been punching above it’s weight and deserves to be back in non league football
15) The Sutton Utd board are frightened of making such a decision ,
16) We are not yet cast adrift at the bottom and have loads of matches left ,
Take your pick , but I for one think that there has to be a change this week

We weren’t even remotely solid though. No pressure on the ball and they opened us up with ease 1 or 2 passes down the right and off they went in behind. At half time I can’t believe we didn’t change anything as we were literally waiting to lose with that set up. Though we did start a bit brighter for 5 mins post half time it certainly wasn’t sustained or threatening to actually go and do some damage to Salford. The opposition must be going home laughing and they had lost 4 out of last 5.
