Where to start?
An entertaining match for the neutral.
I didn't think either team "deserved" to win. Morecambe because they offered little up front and U's because of abysmal defending. To misquote Geoffrey Boycott, his granny could score against us and she's been dead for goodness knows how long.
At 2-2, I felt in a way a little more positive than post-Walsall, simply because of the spirited comeback to draw level when I thought we played some pretty good stuff but it wasn't to be.
Matt must be one of the luckiest managers in football in regards to the Board sticking with him and the crowd not getting on his or the team's back. Actually, they were very supportive today.
Does anyone know why Patrick went off? Whatever, I thought Pereira had a good game.

And who committed the foul for the penalty?

There were some improvements. Some players had decent matches. We look OK (tho' not more) going forwards.
But, does anyone here think that our astonishing defensive frailty is going to improve under the current management? Based on what you've seen in the first 14 league games. And I do mean 'think'. Rationally, not 'want to believe'. And I do mean 'astonishing'.
Many seem to keep allowing (not that it's our decision, of course) Matt 'x' number more games until...? How will another 'x' number of games tell us what we don't already know? What more will they tell us? Except that we've used up even more games and got even furthur adrift.
Glad of any suggestions.

I honestly do not know where to start , another day another defeat . I know in advance the “we love Matt “ crowd will be crooning for him to be given more time to “ turn things around “ but honestly for me enough is enough . I cannot wait to hear his excuses this week ……. “ I need more time with the players on the training pitch to get my idea across and there are unfortunately only seven days in a week “ rubbish . I know we scored TWO goals today but the defence was again MIA and we gave away another penalty . So perhaps Matt will come out with “ we were unlucky today because we did score two goals “ stuff etc etc .
Time for the board to grow a pair and sack him surely . But , before the “ we love Matt” crowd again get too bloody excited we all know this will not happen .
I may have to change my login ID to “Really pissed off at GGL “ .
Signing off now on this match to have a couple of stiff drinks and to try to remember that this is only a game 😢😢.

Sutton's previous success has been built on a solid defence. We've never been prolific scorers so that was a prerequisite for us to win matches. Now the defence is so porous we can't seem to buy a win. I thought our attack today looked better and thank goodness we've got Smith. But the defence was all over the shop again. I despair of the next few games. Surely we should have at least held on for a point .....😨

I really don't like kicking people when they're down. But this is how it is.

I don't think the defence has materially changed since last season, and we know they are decent defenders at this level or at least should be. We seem to have a good bunch going forward, and the likes of Smith, O'Brien, and Patrick have not let us down.
You are only left with the midfield, we only have 7 players down as midfielders on the squad page (Milson is down as a defender). Of those 7 Dundo is over 40, Eastie is out injured, Coley and Pereira are wingers, that only leaves 3, Clay, N'Guessan, and Beautyman. All combinations of those 3 have proved not to be good enough at this level, I cannot see any true holding or covering player in there.
I know we have Gape coming in but clearly this is where the problem is and has been from match 1. For my money 'Milson' has to come in and play as defensive cover in the middle.

We actually played pretty well mainly today against a side who have been doing ok. After going 2-2 I thought we had them but alas no. The goals conceded were shocking - 2 and 3 especially. The 3rd will keep me awake at night! Guy strolls from 50 yards and not one player thinks might want to close the ball down, then a tame shot beats a keeper at the near post. Awful. We worked so hard to get something from the game. Gutted.

The players have to hold their hands up today. Stupid penalty to give away and then allowing the player a free shot with no one closing down. Management can't plan for that whoever they are. We played so well to get back in the game against a very average Morecambe. I can't blame the manager for that defeat. None of our fellow relegation candidates won today.

For the second goal only Hart was back and only N'Guessan and Patrick were near enough to tack back. That, to me, is not the fault of the players. That's a tactical problem.
Yes, there are other weak teams in this division and we could get on terms to have a standard relegation scrap. But not if we're going to keep gifting the opposition multiple goals in each match. That's cut adrift at the bottom form.

Baboonfish. You beat me to it. Yes, what are the excuses this week? Will Tony feed Matt with the usual questions? For the usual replies. Gape sounds a good player. But why sign a player we require straight away.who is not game fit.ok he was a free agent. Posters have given their opinions, one way or another regarding the situation with in the club. But for me ,it now has come to a point where its got to be sorted, one way or another. TBF listening to Matt's interview he didn't give any but talked about individual errors. Tellingly he said these weren't all from one source. Of course, players make errors but that's a now entrenched trend that's been going on all season. He also emphasised "passion, hunger and desire" - admirable characteristics but insufficient in themselves.

For me the 3rd goal says its all, I can't remember how many times I have heard the call from defenders 'get out to him' no one did, you don't get any more basic in football than that. I am confident that had Milson or Eastie been in midfield they would have closed him down.

Morecambe were the latest in a line of unremarkable sides to leave GGL with points this season. Today we were a lot better than at Doncaster last Saturday, but still fell too far short of the performance against Walsall a week earlier. Basically, unless this team takes an early 2-0 lead, it's there for the taking.
Given the number of corners we were given, plus free kicks and throw-ins in the opposition half, we arguably should have scored more than twice. But our inability to defend a range of different threats was once again our undoing.
I remain of the view that we're heading for relegation. If the team wish to change that view, they need to win the next two games.

I know we are playing at a higher level than any time in our history but have we ever had a worse start to a season or a worse run including the end of last season? I would say no, not in memory. This is the harsh world of professional football, so the manager knows it’s a result business so should not come out with comments like I got this club promoted so should not be sacked or moved on as too say like, it’s my prerogative to stay here. As Harry B said, time stops for know one.

We are just 3 points away from another 3 teams with 10 points each. Far too many panicking on here. Its only October for goodness sake. Three individual errors and the rest of the game we played well. This doesn't feel like a team that is going to be relegated and i have seen every single season a Sutton United team has been relegated.
