We are just 3 points away from another 3 teams with 10 points each. Far too many panicking on here. Its only October for goodness sake. Three individual errors and the rest of the game we played well. This doesn't feel like a team that is going to be relegated and i have seen every single season a Sutton United team has been relegated. I don't think anyone is exactly panicking. Some are responding, understandably, to what they have witnessed. Others seem to be quite fatalistic. Others, still, have a tendancy to bow to the wisdom of the board. The depth of whose wisdom is going to be very much under the microscope over the next few games. But no team conceeds the number of goals that we have conceeded, in so few matches, purely due to individual errors. This is a systemic problem. If we carry on doing that, and there is no indication that we will stop, then we are heading for the rocks. (Edit). Actually, I sort of agree with your last point, up to a point. The players themselves, in terms of their abilities, still don't feel like relegation fodder. We've connived to lose to a number of teams who, player for player, are probably not quite as 'good' as us. But we are not playing as a coherent team. That, too, is a systemic problem.

No magic pot of money to spend in January.Matt deserves the chance to put it right even if it takes to the end of the year.

That's playing with time that we simply don't have, based on all of the evidence that we do have. To go back to my original post on this thread; how many more games do we allow this to run for? It's always 'the next two' or 'another three' or 'until the end of the year'. If we aim to stay up, we do not have that time. Matt deserves our gratitude for all of the many good things that he's done for the club, certainly. But, to resort to cliche, it IS a results based business. And, at L2 level, it also a serious business.

Haha, the old line of "it is only xxx" month. It was only September before and now it is only October. I look forward to the "it is only April" comments in 6 months time.
Not sure how changing the manager would make things worse? We might lose more games? We might concede more goals? We might score less goals? There isn't much worse you can get than 2 wins and 1 draw in 14 matches.
It also might make things better. I don't think the players are bad for this level, although we have a serious lack of decent central midfielders, and feel a new manager could get more out of them by playing a more attacking style of play. Asking players like Omari Patrick to get back and defend and having him as one of your covering players at a corner when he can't defend to save his life is ridiculous and clearly isn't working.
I don't support Matt Gray, I support Sutton United FC and managers and players come and go. I support them whilst they are employed by SUFC but for me it is time for a change as putting out the exact same team that failed so dismally last week to play this week and expecting a different outcome is just insane. I don't think getting rid of a manager who has been failing for us for quite some time now over the end of last season and the start of this one is panicking.
The players might be working hard and battling but the likes of Bouzanis, Goodliffe and Clay shouldn't be anywhere near the starting XI at present as their form doesn't deserve it. All 3 have cost us with individual errors in the past two games alone.

In the meantime we can wait for the “but we don’t have any money to pay for a new manager “ brigade to pop up next . Well , before they do I would counter that we have surely saved a bundle of cash by not have to pay the players win or draw bonuses very often over the last few months 😬 . Matt appears to be a really nice bloke and he has been great for our club BUT now is surely the time for him to go ?

All 3 have cost us with individual errors in the past two games alone. Wasn’t it the same team that beat Walsall 4-0 last time out at home? I completely understand people wanting a change of manager. I just like us doing it differently and giving it time. No doubt any other league club would have changed by now - as Tranmere, Colchester have. To me we have to do things differently to other clubs to succeed at this level which is above our current natural level. If Matt gets through this we have a chance for long term consolidation as a league club. I can’t believe the board will change so asking for it after every loss is a waste of time, though again it is every poster’s prerogative. If we’re going to compare it to business then you’re essentially trying to get rid of the man who has worked incredibly hard heading up the business, probably trebled turnover due to performance and now want rid after a few months downturn. No way in business would you be that short term in outlook, it’s a football thing and fashion which we don’t need to follow.

I tried missing yesterday's match, to see if my 100% record of only missing Sutton Wins would hold. No, so I have only seen the highlights and heard Matt's interview. "Our defence was all over the place" Matt said. Before you get the idea all 4 must be at fault - it only takes one player not to be in the right place for the other Sutton defenders to attempt to cover and leave other opponents unmarked. And that player is Sam Hart. The highlights show why Sam gets picked - an overlapping run down the left wing, he looks up and centres accurately and Sutton score. But he is the left back! Look for him in the 2nd and 3rd Morcambe goals. Sorry Matt, but this man does not have the basic instincts needed to position himself in the left back role.
PS to the management for the next transfer window if we have not found a left back in the club. At the other end of the table Louie Barry is scoring freely for Stockport. He is on loan from Villa who prefer to loan players out than have them in the U21s. Villa U21s have 2 good left-backs who have to take turns now. Worth a call.

Whilst I'm not excusing the result or the way we gave away such silly goals, yesterday felt different. It felt like we had fight about us, it felt that we could dominate the game (which we did for huge amounts of the 2nd half) and finally felt we had players working together as a team. And yet we still conspired to throw it away at the end. Actually I thought we'd thrown it away in the first half. You can't expect to concede 3 goals in a home game and expect to come away with something. On the positive, both our goals were top quality and there were some really good individual performances, and I'll single out Sam Hart for specific praise. Never let his head drop, always looked dangerous going forward, a brilliant cross for our first goal and some cracking defensive tackles. Which makes it even worse that he got crocked at the end of the game, and I really hope it's nothing serious. We also shouldn't forget that their keeper made 3 brilliant saves in the first half to prevent us taking the lead.
But now it seems we have gone back to this time last season, where we perform well and then let in a stupid goal in injury time to cost us points. A few people have been saying over social media that "we should have done substitutions earlier". I remember actually saying at 70 min "I really hope Matt doesn't make any subs because this is really working". The usual substitutions wouldn't have done very much bearing in mind we only had one stiker on the bench who isn't our strongest, and I think the substitution that was made at half time was an upgrade.
I'm still none the wiser on why were are so bad over the course of the season. Is it due to Eastmond not playing and exposing our defence, showing our defenders not being anywhere as good as we thought? Is it due to the downturn of form of players who have been fantastic for us so far (Goodliffe is a very good example of this, but not the only one). Is it the lack of preparation (which again is out of character for this set up), is it the tactics? I don't know the answer and I'm not going to pretend I don't know.
Although all in all this was miles better than the previous Saturday, I also think Matt is running out of time. We've got a real tough couple of game where no one is expecting us to win, but we need to show this fighting spirit that has been lacking for most of the games this season. And then we have the FA Cup. If we get a performance like we did last season against Farnborough, that will probably be the point when I'd give up hope that this can be turned around. We've got the best draw we could get, at home to a side struggling in the division below (not a team flying high with confidence) and we need the self belief that we can do something. If we can't and Matt still thinks he can turn this around with the quality of players we have (and really there isn't any player in our squad that isn't good enough to be a L2 player either currently or historically), then I'd be seriously concerned going forward. With what he's done for the club has been beyond our wildest dreams, he should get to a point where he says "I can't do any more" and walk away. It's in his hands now. That's really a question only he can answer.
