Back at home this weekend to face Morecambe back in League Two after relegation last season. Unbeaten in their last 5 The Shrimps sit bang in mid-table. We haven’t played Morecambe since the 99/00 Conference season before they went up into the league - i remember we took a real beating away (L2-6) but the home fixture came in a congested week towards the end of the season where we also played Scarborough - score escapes me but I want to say a 1-0 loss.
So in last weekends post-match interview Matt alluded to training time and coaching with the squad during this blank week, I wonder if he’s been able to get his points across. Not sure how we’re shaping up injury-wise - Easty and Kashket obviously long-term but we should welcome Pereira back after international duty plus new signing Gape.
Given our dire results on the road it’s obvious for me to state the importance of our home form - hoping we can pick up something in this one before trickier looking games against Wrexham and Bradford.

It was interesting listening to the Shrimps' fan previewing the game in the latest Sutton Podcast.
He explained how their manager is packing their side with young players out to make their mark in L2 and how, he believes, that's starting to pay dividends. (That's rather a contrast to Matt's approach, of course.) One possible drawback, I guess, is that they could start to burn themselves towards the end of a long season.

We did lose the home fixture 1-0 to Morecambe in 99/00, which was played 2 days after we had hosted Scarborough which was itself 2 days after the rearranged 2nd leg of the FA Trophy semifinal against Kingstonian was supposed to have been played. But we all know that particular game never took place (and no amount of evidence will convince me otherwise). Our schedule for that week would make Jurgen Klopp break down into a passive aggressive ball of tears

Time to start climbing the table. let's really get behind the team as we did against Walsall and give them a boost.

Disappointed to read tomorrows programme is online-only, is this a trial with view to permanent transition?

If that's the case I wonder why the regular volunteers who sell programmes on match days are shown as on duty in the recently issued duty rosta.

Disappointed to read tomorrows programme is online-only, is this a trial with view to permanent transition? Imagine my dismay when I found out earlier in the week? They may look like they are hacked together at the last minute but my articles can take a fair few hours to put together, researching, precising from local paper reports etc. Do all that to go online? I might as well just write an independent blog. I am hoping this is temporary. As I understand it this is because average sales just don't add up to the actual print costs. This figure not helped by missing a trick earlier in the season. I will not elaborate. If it means going for a smaller issue (eg Newport) then fair enough. I don't mind not contributing as long as it means we have a printed issue. The above may sound at odds with the internet age which, in the main, has resulted in the acceleration of drop in sales but some of use like our traditions. To me the programme isn't a few bits of paper stapled together, it is an historical, tangible document of a sporting event, not a pdf file that will one day disappear of the internet. Never did I think SUFC would go this way, particularly with our history of producing a decent printed programme (award winning on a number of occasions) going back to the days of Simon Clennell in the 1970s (some of the offerings before that weren't so great). Miffed? You effing bet.

Disappointed to read tomorrows programme is online-only, is this a trial with view to permanent transition? I'm very disappointed too. Just had a quick look through the PDF version and I'm sorry to say it has reproduced poorly. Download it and you'll see what I mean. Whilst partly understanding the reasons why, I wonder how much of a loss maker it actually is? Would it possible to seek a sponsor for the programme - there seem to be sponsors for all sorts of other things after all? Like others I'd be quite happy for a smaller version if possible. Whilst there has been a trend towards some EFL clubs not producing physical programmes it's notable that very many clubs much smaller than ours still do as a cursory read through this thread demonstrates www.nonleaguematters.co.uk/forums/forums/where-did-you-go.10/One final point. At the last two home matches a couple of programme sellers were stood just a couple of metres apart outside the main GGL turnstiles. Not the most effective way of maximising sales surely?

Regarding the uninformed comment regarding programme sellers temporarily situated near each other at the main entrance - this area is by far the busiest entrance from 1.30pm. One seller had to sit due to a leg issue so could not be mobile. Programmes are not allowed to be sold inside the stadium on any of the yellow markings areas which is in reality all areas anywhere near the actual main entrance. This is enforced by match day stewards. Additionally, they are not sold around hospitality tables on instruction. No fans can access the fans zone or bar without first walking up the main GGL entrance from 1.30pm onwards the main entrance hence why the sellers were situated at the most prominent selling point.

I didn't know that but maybe the immobile seller could sell by the "most prominent" selling point whilst another could move around inside the ground as I've seen previously at GGL? EDIT: Garethl, as he's posted below, could then buy one. PS This is intended as a constructive comment not criticism.

I too am gutted that we are no longer producing programmes. I wonder if this affect ball/shirt/player sponsorship as everyone likes to see their name in the programme as a lasting memory years later. Back in the day (60’s) me a John Parsons were programme sellers and could go wherever we wanted (even onto GGL). I’ve always collected programmes, before it became popular and I regard it as a very sad day indeed. As Mark has said, we have also been award winning in the past. A great shame for the youngsters too, who will no longer get the double page spread picture of a player signed after a match. Just another disappointment in a season full of disappointments. ☹️

Feel guilty not supporting it more as had intended to do so. I never have cash on me and always presumed it was cash only. Also usually rushing around trying to get a spot by the fence so the kids can watch. Lame excuses really.
Onto what is a big game. Would be lovely to get another win. Then it’s 2 wins from 3 and we’re on the play off charge 😀. Good results for us tonight, Tranmere stay 3 points away and Newport pegged to a draw - can see them being in relegation mix though who knows at this early stage.
Same intent to get at the opposition from the word go and everyone behind the lads again. Support was good last home match. All the focus on what the players, management, board etc are or aren’t doing. We can have our fun on here but actually it’s all irrelevant and a bit of fun - we’ve got what we’ve got, we are where we are and we need to do our part in creating a positive atmosphere. It’s all we as supporters can do. We do things differently to other clubs with knee jerk sackings and no real long term plan, sticking together gives us a chance of turning this round.

How much do the programmes lose over the course of the season and if they broke even, would the club continue to print the physical programmes?
I have only bought the odd programme over the years on special occasions but appreciate they are part of the football experience for many and it would be a shame to lose them.
I'd be happy to bung the club £1k at the end of the season to help cover any losses if it means the physical print versions can be kept.

I echo the comments above about the programme. I've just downloaded it. But, because it's on my computer rather than in my hand tomorrow, the chances are that I won't read most of it. It's just not the sort of thing that I read on a screen, where it's competing with a constant flow of easily accessible, real-time information.
Tranmere lost this evening, at home to Doncaster, and Forest Green will be expected to lose at unbeaten Mansfield tomorrow. That gives us an opportunity to draw level on points with both of those (and also Colchester, though they may be fancied to win at home against Harrogate). But we'd need to win. We're in a situation now where we can't afford to blow many more such chances.

Earmarked Newport to struggle this season very early on - think they’re on a run of 1 win in 9 in the league. Surprised Tranmere are still struggling - looks a crunch game against them next month..
