You say that Andy, but may be he needs a new challenge, only a thought. ⚽️⚽️⚽️ It's not about what he needs. It's about what we need. We're paying the salary. Very true Andy . ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Garrard has zero experience of managing in League Two, and showed disrespect to our club when BW won that play-off match at GGL in 2018. A resounding no from me.

What is all this ‘it’s not the Sutton way’ thing. Yes it’s great that we have a set of values at the club and we would never want to abandon what makes us who we are but it wasn’t ’the Sutton way’ to be a league club for 123 years and that changed didn’t it?
Also the thing about ‘we don’t sack managers’ isn’t completely accurate is it? Some Mangers have stood down rather than being sacked of course but in most cases that simply pre-empted the inevitable. We should actually more respect the fact that over many years our Board has dealt with these mattters with integrity and fairness and we have been therefore blessed with Mangers such as Williams, Ron’s,Doswell and Gray amongst a good number of others who have not been as successful

Not only no management experience at L2, no experience of league football whatsoever aside from 17 appearances for Swindon years ago over 3 seasons. No coaching experience in the football league. Even Matt had more league experience when he got his first managerial posting with us. We really don't need a "young hungry manager" to take the next step up in their career. In other circumstances that could work, but not in the situation we're currently in.

Matt was on the staff when he was given the job, maybe the next manager is as well 😉 Link

TBF not a bad shout. If you think of Matt's first few months / Dos' last few months there was horrendous form and when Matt came in for the job lots worried would be a disaster & just more of the same.
Junior's been here six months (ish) so knows what we are about.
No idea if wants to manage obviously.

The flaw in the comparison is that Dos brought Matt in specifically to groom him to be his successor, and Matt came in not long before Dos went on his extended leave. The same way he brought in Jamie Collins at Havant, which I think we can safely say wasn't as successful as Matt was. I don't think we can say that Junior has been brought in for anything comparative.

I'm no expert in these matters but surely the last thing we need is any kind of more of the same? Nor should 'knowing what we're about' count for much. Why so insular? We're a fooball club like any other football club (yes, I really did just write that).
What we need is someone with relevant experience and some fresh ideas that they can apply, hopefully with a degree of success, to our precarious situation. What we don't need is 'cozy Sutton'.

I guess I’m the only one on here who has experience of appointing a new manager. I don’t care whether the new boss is young and hungry or an older, wise head. We’ve tried both approaches, both have worked and both have failed. I want someone energetic and passionate who is motivated to succeed. A leader who inspires others and knows and understands this level of football.
In Bruce we have one of the most experienced chairmen around, he won’t be dazzled by glitter or be seduced by the first candidate who flutters their eyelashes.
I have no idea who’s in the frame but I trust our Board to make the right decision. Then we see what happens 🤞

It can work, Liverpool did it quite well for a spell. Not saying we will have the same set up as per Andy's comment on reasons brought in. Not even saying I'm calling for it but it is more of a claim than other names thrown out there (including the one I said).

Ok, I'm hoist by my own petard having said 'we're a football club like any other...'.
I'm stuck if I can see any real parallels between what happens in the Premier League and the rest of English football. Completely different animal, imo.

LoL Liverpool's time of doing it was definitely not Premier League era.... Again, not arguing for or against but pointing out that it is not without merit.

LoL Liverpool's time of doing it was definitely not Premier League era.... Again, not arguing for or against but pointing out that it is not without merit. The huge difference between Liverpool then and Sutton now is that the former's appointments from within essentially continued a winning culture with the so-called "Boot Room" ensuring a smooth transition. Before then, the club had been in the Second Division for five years, and were knocked out of the FA Cup in 1958/59 by Worcester City. Then on 14 December 1959 an experienced manager arrived at Anfield. His name, of course, is Bill Shankly, and the rest is history. So, if anything maybe Liverpool's experience suggests the merits of somebody from outside, rather like Dos and then the transition to Matt? Having said all that, my take is that managerial appointments are in large part a matter of pot luck. Some work out and some don't for reasons that are difficult to fathom. Candidates might look ideally suited on paper but the reality turns out to be different - a parallel here with the current squad being our "best ever on paper". We just have to trust the Board and hope for the best.

Just a guess but I expect a lot of our attention tomorrow before the match will be focused on the stand and trying to recognise any potential new manager there 🙈🙈
