I think John has also been right and left previously hasn’t he? He covered for Hart going off in at least one match over the last season I think. Maybe that’s the plan for him to provide cover on both sides? Doubt John is anything but an emergency full back. He did start out at right back but I think injuries may be catching up with Louis unfortunately, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s normally on the bench.

Tyler French joining our squad is for me the best of a great bunch of signings so far . Looking forward to even more news with anticipation 👀

I may be one of a very small group but I am excited and pleased with our signings so far . My feelings are that whilst we may not go straight back up we will certainly be very competitive . The signings look good to me, too. And this idea that some seem to have that the club can set up to go straight back up is a complete nonsense. Of course it's not impossible that we might. But we know very well that to win promotion out of the national is very difficult. It's not just signing the right players, or having the right manager. You also need a huge luck with injuries, players' form, and getting the breaks in very tight matches . Yes, you can give yourself better chances via the set up, but you're still going to need a whole host of things to go right for you over the entire season. Only once in 37 years has a team gone straight back up and I don't think we will be number 2

It’s five times, but that doesn’t really affect your point about how difficult it is.

Tyler French is a good signing and shows where the club wants to be. He comes with lots of experience and a point to prove, and with one of our experience defenders along side him will make a good Centre back paring. So if we can get one or two more in with Tyler’s level of play we will have a good season.
How good we are, just have to wait and see, but having said that there is no out standing team and no reason why we cannot be up there with a united changing room which we have not had for at least a season and a half, so exciting times ahead on and off the field ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Decent signing, may suggest we are losing one at the back, but still need to add quality to the midfield and we will need goals, so a striker is a must.

I suppose what cheers me up most about our new signings and the players that we have retained is that when we have previously been in the NL / Conference the main and probably only target was survival , including our promotion year . However , this time we seem to be building a team to push beyond survival and to target success , be that a play off place or better . I know that it will be very hard and the likely hood of up going straight back up at the first attempt is unlikely but I’m looking forward to match days with hope and not dread which will be a pleasant change after the last eighteen months . This feeling may not last beyond September of course but at the moment it is there for me 😁

Not great, but not as bleak as you posted. Edited to add Grimsby in 2022. So 5 in 20

Darlington and Lincoln both bounced straight back in the late 80s.

Louis John and Craig Clay both depart the club, contracts cancelled.

With Eastie and Harry B leaving it did make you wonder about Clay who did not get much game time last season under Steve. looks like more incoming in that department. Clay never really made that position his own. I am sure he will get snapped up by someone though.
Big respect to John, who has been great, He was like a rock in our promotion season. Good luck to the lad.

Is this now a correct updated squad list?
4 Keepers - Rose, Arnold, Kerby & Sims
8 Defenders - Sowunmi, Goodliffe, Jackson, Taylor, Williams, Vaz & French. There is also Hart who hasn’t announced anything yet.
5 Midfielders - Coley, De Silva, Odelusi & Harris
2 Forwards - Tume & Boateng
Definitely in need of strikers.
I'd like to think we could keep Hart and he could play further up.

Louis should be invited back to join the hall of fame when he hangs up his boots, a legend of the club.
Clay, an awful bit of business last year so getting him off the wage bill is a success.
