That was one shambles’s off a performance by a promising side, but our defence went walk bouts today and needs work doing to it. Yes it’s a new and a young team, but if they did not know now how unforgiving this league is they do now. ⚽️⚽️⚽️ Promising ?? This lot are a complete rabble. There doesn’t seem to be a good player among them, there is certainly no team there for starters. I did think that to get rid of all the experienced players wouldn’t end well. Relegation battle starts now - can certainly forget about promotion anytime soon. Might as well go back to non segregation as well in the ground top - the club seem to have forgotten that we are now not a league team. Attendances likely to nosedive pretty quickly…

It was dire in every area. Every single player from Sutton on that pitch was utterly abysmal. Completely outplayed by a part-time team, as simple as that.
People clapped that showing at the end of the game too. The mind boggles.

Groundhog Day this afternoon with memories of games around 12 months ago coming back!
We looked nervy, and at the back awfully fragile, in the opening quarter and barely improved afterwards. Arnold, who can be too lackadaisical for my liking, nearly gifted Boston a couple of goals before their opener.
We were more toothless up front than the late, great Shane MacGowan but the big difference for me was the performance of Barbrook & Simper who, like Lyall in his programme notes, I've been impressed with so far but both were well off the pace today. Mediocre, at best, from the rest, apart from Vaz who I thought was pretty decent in a more forward position.
The jury's still out for me how we'll fare this season. Was it a very bad day at the office or a portent of things to come?

FFS Relegation talk already?! Get a grip I’m usually quite measured on here or I don’t post at all. I’m not someone who over reacts but that was appalling - and the warning signs had been there from the previous match too.

We're going to have a few rubbish days and that was one of them, but to even suggest a "relegation battle" in the first week of September is pathetic.

The players, team performances and results are getting progressively worse. Next two matches will make three successive games against teams below us. Will be interesting to see where we are after them.
I just watched SM’s post match interview and think he had the air of someone who has just realised we’re not as good as he thought we were.

No talk of relegation from me because I am still convinced better things are around the corner . I do not expect us to compete for automatic promotion or even the play offs but I do expect us to be comfortable at the end of the season . That is my assessment for the season as a whole .
With regards to today’s performance I would suggest a couple of immediate changes for the club to undertake . Firstly , get some experienced players in on loan for part or indeed the whole season . I know that this would cost money but this could be financed by part two of my plan . Secondly , get planning permission from the council to erect a big tent on the rec . Then put some of the clowns on show for us today in that big tent and charge £5 a go to watch them as clowns . A bit of face paint and a large plastic beach ball or two and even they might put on a ok performance and give a few laughs to lift the mood of supporters .
Just my thoughts 😁😁

Today’s performance gives us an opportunity to see where we are as a team. This week and last after 15 minutes we were nullified.

That's my concern but can we get (much) worse? Maybe opposition managers have alread sussed us out: pack defence; attack at pace, especially our left flank; and outmuscle us.

Was trying to work out who was worse this afternoon, us or the ref. I concluded it was the former.
We started ok with the final ball just not hitting the mark on a number of occasions. We should have been given a penalty for blatant handball. Even under the new guidelines it was a pen.
All that said,we looked vulnerable at the back and once again gave the ball away too much in our own half. That gave Boston confidence and they eventually netted, our defence static, their no 9 who was probably motm, on the move. It had been coming.
So far this season we have generally reacted well to conceding but not this afternoon. I thought we actually got worse.
Second half was poor but their second came from a f-k that they were given a second go at. Why? Great delivery but not great defending. The third was us stopping and basically became a free hit once the goal was given. Some suggest we stopped because the ref blew. Dunno if that's the case but after that showing nothing would have surprised me.
I have repeatedly stated that we would see a dip in performance now and again. We saw it at Farnborough and perhaps more worryingly, Dartford in pre season. This was a Dartfordesqe performance. A young team with little NL experience and unable to respond to a negative situation. No issues about the effort but a lack of composure and application that has been evident on numerous occasions.
The main concern is that we made a very ordinary Boston team look bloody good. They did the basics well, like getting the blocks in at the back, their keeper was nigh on redundant, but a lot of their good stuff came from our lack of application, accuracy in passing and expecting Steve Arnold to play as a sweeper keeper.
As others have stated and I have said before, the team needs an experienced head, maybe two.
SM is brave in his approach but I think today we played right into Boston's hands and there needs to be another way to play, adapt to the game as it develops.
Without doubt the worse team performance since SM took over.
What was a good start to the season two matches ago, is now a below par one as we have now dropped more points on offer than gained. Where the hell has the Alty and Eastleigh performances disappeared too? Down the well of inexperience?
A quick turn around to Tuesday, no doubt more changes to the starting XI, which, until today, the squad has responded well to.
