It was fairly clear this wasn’t going to be all plain sailing given the profile of players we have picked up and that this is a new team. That we initially started encouragingly results wise probably was the surprise. We’ll need to give the management and players the time to resolve the issues that are undoubtedly there. Our new fan intake are rapidly finding out how difficult the National League is 😂 (and perhaps some of the players)!

There are a few players in defensive positions that will need to find out quickly or they will be finding out how tough the Conference South or Isthmian League is because that's where their standard of play has been so far this season. We were a little bit of luck away at Tamworth and Wealdstone from this average start being disastrous.

Worst home performance of the season today by quite some way. I thought we were lackadaisical defensively and did not get enough players in the box on the few occasions we got in behind. Plenty for the manager to work on and if we continue to give free headers away in the six-yard box it could be a long season. Here's hoping for an improved show at Daggers on Tuesday.

Reality check. This league is not known as the 'bastard league' for no reason. If you're a bit below par, as we were today, you're likely to get punished. We underestimated them. They defended like Trojans, we defended like turkeys. Steve Arnold was channelling his inner Bouzanis.
That's two wins, three draws and two defeats so far. This implies mid-table (and we're now 13th). I actually think we can do better than that. But there needs to be a response.

OS is not surprised to see something like that from such a young inexperienced team, they tend to be inconsistent. I also remember saying if you build a side like this they can end up being anything, and I still think that is pretty much the case. I am disappointed there isn't at least one 30 something player sitting in our mid field bringing a calm head to things at times. Today rather looked like headless chickens at the Alamo, just about everything apart from the net had bullet holes in it, including some in our feet.
Coaching and experience has to be the answer, so these performances become less and less. Not to play to the whistle is naïve even at youth level football, and I can't remember any keeper not trying to keep a shot out even if its well offside, no keeper should ever want to be beaten.
I am sending them to D/R on Tuesday to go and redo their homework.
(yes worst performance under SM for me too)

You win some ,you lose some. Way off my target now of 2 points per game. We either go on a 5 match winning run to bring us up to parity or scrap to try and make the play offs. Gateshead are setting a great pace so far.
Worst performance of the season so far with several players not on their game.

There doesn't seem to be a match report on the website yet. Too embarrassed? Or something more serious going on behind the scenes?

Boston deserved to take the lead while we looked like we felt that we did not need to defend against them, though the ref was atrocious, first ignoring the blatant penalty we should have had, second, while we foolishly did not play to the whistle, any decent ref would have shouted play on after the lino flagged, Which obviously did not happen. Arnold should have made the save, instead he let it go in.
We grew into the second half and I anticipated that we might get at least an equaliser in the second half. They were always going to time waste and break the game up which they did, and we did not do enough to deserve anything.
Worrying really, as we now go 4 games with 2 defetes and no wins. Maybe this is the bubble that needed bursting. I would like to think we have enough in our locker to not have to keep looking over our shoulder at the bottom 4, but I certainly wont be counting our chances of a top 7 spot. I am starting to feel the clubs "day in the life of a club seeking promotion" thing needs dropping as it could potentially be humiliating.
While I think we have some promising players out there and at times can play, we have a long way to go until this team is streetwise and dynamic enough to have proper impact on this League.
Best to get these thoughts out of our heads and see avoiding the bottom 4 and a solid mid table as a step forward from last season. A good FA trophy run could be good as well. Need to be more realistic now I think.

This will be our fourth home game on successive Saturdays which is extremely rare. Is it some sort of record? I was wondering if the club had requested to start away from home as a precaution just in case the pitch wasn't quite at optimal readiness, so maybe the first two Saturdays were simply swapped (Altrincham were away for their first two Saturdays including us; Tamworth were at home for their first two Saturdays including us). If our first two fixtures had been the other way round, and you count the Bank Holiday as an afternoon rather than evening match, then the sequence would go H-A-H-A-H-H rather than A-H-H-A-H-H. This is me trying to talk about anything but what happened on the pitch yesterday, by the way. There doesn't seem to be a match report on the website yet. Too embarrassed? Or something more serious going on behind the scenes? Probably neither.

Wonder if anyone was actually unlucky enough to find one of the free match tickets hidden around the town 🤔😏

There doesn't seem to be a match report on the website yet. Too embarrassed? Or something more serious going on behind the scenes? Or the match report came up in the normal time period. Which it did. Christ almighty, one sh*t game and some people think the club is in a state of collapse.
