Can fans take plastic beer glasses out from the bar on to the terrace at GGL?

Why not? They can at Colston Avenue. They have beer garden tables and everything, two yards from the touchline.

It is banned at all designated grounds - essentially Conference national and above. There are numerous examples, not be quoted, of grounds where this behaviour has apparently contributed to crowd "misbehaviour" and although we are no longer a designated ground we see no reason not to adopt best practice. Surely people can wait 45 minutes between drinks !

So feasibly SUFC could allow this, until they get promoted to the Conference? Until August 2011? Lots of revenue available, and ban anyone who misbehaves!

Am i right in assuming that just relates to alcohol and you are allowed to take a plastic glass with say cola in it out on to the terrace.

I say it should be allowed, start treating supporters with respect and maturity. Why can cricket and rugby fans enjoy a drink while they watch a game?
No wonder The Plough over the road is packed full of drinkers watching football on TV while SUFC play in real life.

As one from down the road, I think we should still ban drinking on the terraces. Too much opportunity for stupidity really.

Are you suggesting football supporters are more stupid than cricket or rugby ones?

Vern, it wouldn't be practical to allow drinking during the game, because of where the bar is situated and where you need to walk through to get out to the game.
I for one would love it though, and it isn't about waiting 45 minutes for a drink it is about enjoying a drink whilst watching your team, something I do down the pub a lot when my other team is on TV.

Vern. I think allowing booze in to the ground while a match is in progress is the most stupid idea i have heard for ages! As for other sports cricket and rugby have had recent drink related problems with many spectators being ejected. Some people just dont know when to stop. If you have a drink problem keep your ticket pop over the pub for a swift one and return to the game.I am sure you wont be missed. PS i enjoy a pint or two but there is a time and place.

As part of the preparation of the Club's Football Development Plan I have been travelling to many lower league Clubs as well as our own league grounds and I have to say that until you put football into perspective this way you cannot truely appreciate how well the Club is run and how good is our reputation. Some months ago a Carshalton supporter came onto the site to comment about the Dos incident but in doing so he did acknowledge grudgingly that Sutton do things the right way. Some of you will think the Board limited in ambition and a bit too conservative but having examined how things are run elsewhere I think we are very fortunate. It may seem a small point, but not allowing drink outside the Bar is a restriction that larger Clubs are obliged to adopt and one which sets a standard. This type of standard is the sort of thing that has enhanced our Club's reputation over the years. As many of you will know the Trust in conjunction with the Club are expanding our community involvement and this requires working with the FA and other partners to develop the Plan for how the Club will progress. This will encompass all elements of the Club will have a heavy emphasis on developing greater connection with the Colt's sides. In this context I am not sure that allowing drinking on the terraces (whist possibly adding a bit to our revenue) will assist our aim of achieving Community Status.

I hardly think the people watching a game on Sky Sports in the pub would be tempted to the match just because they can drink in the stand?

Then maybe we should ban smoking in the ground as another step in the right direction.
