I didn't think the first half was as bad as others have made out, given that we were holding our own for 40 minutes and would probably have taken a 0-0 draw. But our familiar failings defending set pieces saw us suddenly 2-0 down as we failed to clear first a long throw then a free kick. Then, almost on the stroke of half time, Jason Goodliffe headed in a corner at the far post - a real captain's goal - to put us back in the game.
The second half was mostly poor stuff, with the home defence containing us well. But as the clock ran down, Stefan Payne at last latched on to a through ball and Paul Nicholls had to come out smartly and smother the ball at his feet. That was a hint of what was to come, as a few minutes later Stefan burst through in the inside right channel and angled his shot superbly across Nicholls and in at the far post. That was the sort of play that persuaded Fulham to buy him! For a short spell afterwards we even looked as if we might snatch an unlikely win, but in the end we had to settle for a replay on Tuesday. A draw was a fair result overall.

When the second Margate goal went in, if somebody had told me i'd be watching a potential third and winning Sutton goal being cleared off the line during the six minutes added on at the end of the game i'd have laughed in their face. Great to find a good pub in Margate to toast our escape in and also the amusing confirmation gained from the the run for the train home that the dusty roads of Eastern Europe have done nothing for Taz's fitness levels Bob's swearing on the other hand was on fine form

Felt like a naughty schoolboy after that! No roof, boiling hot, team pissing away goals with shite defending, not exactly a recipe for 90 minutes of passionate noise is it If the players listen and learn then we will too

Sorry Medibot but if the fans are as great as they all think they are then venting their spleen at the players rather than getting behind them is certainly no way to prove that they are. Some of the rants at the team yesterday were embarassing. Fair play to Dos for coming over and putting his point across.
I'd rather let my frustrations out at the officials, which I did yesterday. Decision wise he was ok and he did add on the 6 mins for the injuries etc, but the game as a spectacle was hindered by 'Gate's time wasting in the second half. Also if a Margate player wants to stand on the ball each time we have a free-kick the ref doesn't march out the ten yards, he cautions the player ffs!
On to Tuesday. On the plus side, Nicholls, who made a couple of terrific saves is unavailable, on the minus side it's my birthday & our record ain't great on 15/9!! Still, at least we're still in the hat & fair play to the lads for keeping going, when it really looked as if the second goal wasn't going to come.

I must agree with Frakey.Dos was great to come over and encourage the fans behind the goal to stay with his young team and share his passion for the club. Possibly the fans were more subdued than usual but to be fair there was not a lot to get excited about. What really pissed me off was the boss asking a couple of fans by name to get the rest of us going to give more vocal support in future especially as they had spent a large proportion of the game slagging the team off. Right thats my rant over.Sorry to have annoyed anyone.Lets get behind the team on Tuesday.

Was not there myself so can't really comment, but this may have been his point......?

Yeah, well in the same way people have the right to have a go at me if i serve them a rubbish pint because i've not been doing my job properly, i reserve my right to have a go at somebody for not doing their job properly. Playing for Sutton United is a job as much as any other. The boys play for their careers and their team mates more than they play for the bunch of nutters who trek round the country to see them play. It's a bizarre relationship at the best of times but it is a two way thing. I will not blindly praise incompetence just because it's wearing choccy and amber. If i'm paying out to go and see them play and they are being paid to play for the team, i reserve my right to have a go at them for doing a bad job as much as i do the referee, a bartender or whoever. Sorry if that spoils the romance for anyone...

So much for supporting Dos's "we're in it together" call.
And as for comparing working in a pub to playing semi-pro football, well, glad your young shoulders have such a sense of perspective.
I'd like to think the players are playing for the club as well as themselves and I'm sure that is what Dos thinks too. After all, if not, we might as well all pack it up and watch Gillette Soccer Saturday every w/e instead!
As for romance, I try to find that in areas of life.

As a Manager for many years(not football however)i have found that most team players respond to encouragement to improve performance.
If you do need to challenge a team members contribution you do not do it from the sidelines in public gaze. One to one in private is much more effective and usually gets better results from the individual concerned.Lets leave that to Dos.I am sure he is more than capable of challenging underperformers but remember he has only so much to work with! Get behind the team not on top of them! Having worked in a Bar for several years its a bloody hard job with most of the Tossers on the other side of it!

Wellie, you spent more time on that otherside of the bar, so are you trying to confess to something?

I was comparing my job with their job. Since i don't get paid to do anything else at the moment it would be a little difficult to make any other comparison. As for being in it together, we are and i will continue to and do get behind the team vocally but if i feel the need to object to something then i will.

I don't have a go at my team unless they are not putting in the effort I expect from them, whether they are playing badly or not. Yesterday there was no lack of effort but the quality was poor and although there was clearly frustration, Dos should not of needed to come over and effectively tell supporters they were failing in there job to support the side.
It should be remembered that Dos coming to our club had a lot to do with our support for a side getting beaten week in week out in the Conf Sth.
I did not hear what Dos said but in the end we came back from 2-0 down to earn a replay so he had the belief and was proved right.
