Thats a good one.
"Don't you think the manager won't deal with the problem"
I expect Dos will but previous managers have had their favourites who can't put a foot wrong .

Fans who shout abuse at players are like the same idiots who 'encourage' their own children at youth games around the country. Quite right.

What I find somewhat difficult to understand about some of the posts in this thread is why, normally right-minded would want to part with (depending on their age) 10 quid of their hard earned, to slag off the performance of the very players they've come to watch?
Perhaps I'm trying to be too logical in my thinking because, after all, I suppose I am talking about human nature here, but I still find the concept baffling.
One's thing for sure though, I bet the definition of the word "supporter" in any dictionary does not include the phrase "to barrack your favourites when their performance does not live up to your own expectations".
We all have our opinions about players, team performance, etc but why the need to let all and sundry know, including the targets of those opinions?

I totally agree with you Frakey, but it's a shame you don't extend the sentiment to give referees encouragement in order to motivate them into performing better *takes tongue out of cheek* It's understandable that we sometimes become frustrated by our players' poor performance, but yelling at them about it is only going to discourage, not encourage them. Yes, they are paid by the club to do a job well, and yes they are supposed to do so in a professional manner, but they are human beings not machines and of course they are sometimes going to perform badly or react badly to criticism that is not constructive. That's what human beings do. And the view from the other side of the fence is the same in similar circumstances. I refer, of course, to Dos's, er, encouragement of the fans afterwards. OK I agree that we could and should have been louder, but some of the things he said made me quite angry (I won't say what). I do wish I'd done more on the day, but being "told off" like that was the equivalent of telling a player he's useless and certainly isn't going to encourage me to shout/sing any more/louder tomorrow night. I'll do it because I love Sutton, not because I've been told I'm not good enough.

What frustrates me about refs is that at SUFC's level they should be able to work out how to deal with wasting time etc, if I can on a Sunday morning. It's hardly rocket science. Tongue in cheek or not, I support SUFC not the ref.
As for Dos telling you off, I think you missed his point entirely. He wants the team to win & wants the fans to be apart of it. Christ, last season, you lot couldn't stop singing - what's changed?
I still say he was being diplomatic and used the lack of noise angle as a tactic rather than just being bloody annoyed about some of the very audible rants at the team that were evident on Saturday.
I think he showed how much he cared on Saturday and bearing in mind he's only in his second season, perhaps he might be thinking that the fans who have been watching the team for years may like to show it too. As I said above, it was there last season. Is Mr Miller missed that much?

Nah, really you're right Mark, but I don't think I did miss his point - I interpreted it in exactly the same way you just said. It was the way he said it that bothered me. But I will say I can't blame him for being frustrated and I think the circumstances got the better of all of us. For the record, I didn't hear any rants at the team myself, because I was too busy shouting myself hoarse. You can't say I didn't make an effort! A few times I tried to start chants but no bugger joined in... where were you Frakey?

AA - very mischievious comment that. Actually, I'm my own person - I try not follow the crowd - I've been yelling for the U's for nigh on 40 years, so I have nothing to prove to you Mr Aleman.
Sal - I was making sure the ref added the time on. He actually appeared to forget at one stage before I kindly reminded him. LOL
I have to admit it has taken me a while, especially at home games, to remember I'm not stewarding anymore and can join in!!
BTW, I have a bit of a sore throat at the mo, so I might be on the quietish side tonight. I'm sure you good people will make up for me tonight!

I suppose you could liken it to a play in olden times as when their was a bad performance the audience let them know in no uncertain terms. In the 60's the supporters at Sutton used to give the players the slow hand clap when they were not performing well. On saturday though i thought our away support was very muted and not up to the usual decibel level.

Couldn't have been that often with the players U's had back then.

Your probably too young to remember but even in the days of Ted Powell Mickey Mellows and Larry Pritchard there were saturdays when the matches were as dull as ditchwater. On top of that there was no promotion or relegation to aim for or avoid.

First game was December 69, so a bit early for me.
