There's a 15 page thread headed 'Norwood heads to Surrey' on exeweb www.exeweb.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35538&page=15 that has been running since James joined us and includes this little snippet, "Sutton vs Carshalton is a massive rivalry. Think Celtic / Rangers mixed with Cardiff / Swansea and baked for three hours in a Barcelona / Real Madrid oven" and a mini-report of today's game / JN as viewed by an Exeter fan: " On a very cold day (colder than at Notts County last year), Carshalton hosted Sutton Utd in a Ryman Premier League. The Boxing Day ficture has a resulted in a 3-0 win for Sutton and Carlshalton were clearly out to avenge that result against their very near neighbours.
After far too many seasons of watching non league football, it was perhaps good to go and see a non league game, at was a "neat" ground - loved the covered terrace that went the whole length of the pitch. Didn't do the covered side as when we checked it out the sun was straight in our eyes. £12 covered the cost of my entrance, my sons' and a copy of the programme. Good value. may of the fans swapped ends at half time.
Standard of football? About what you expected, not at all hoof ball, think there were only 2 bookings. However, not a huge amount of skill - more brawn than brain. No stand out players.
James Norwood was clearly frustrated at times at the lack of opportunity to take the ball on and in to the box. Either not seen, or the ball played to a nearby defender instead of James. Towards the end of the first half he moved up from the left wing to being the sole (just for LOG, he might have been the soul striker ) striker but either very little came to him, or was unable to make anything of it.
Second half he moved back to the left wing. Latterly he started taking the corners, which included one that he put in close to the crossbar that had the Carshalton defenders panicking. He showed great pace (would love to see him in a 50 yard sprint against Stanno to see who is the quicker). Too easily marshalled off the ball at times by big beefy defenders, won little in the air and not a great tackler. Towards the end he was injured in an attack where he clashed with the goalie in a one on one.
I do wonder if he would be better off at a slightly higher level (no disrespect to Sutton or the Rymans Premier).
Look forward to seeing back in City's first team."

I thought we were on top for the majority of the game - . ...would infer, on reading this, that you were a teenager with a lobotomy who wasn't actually at the game. Even 95% of your own fans are more level headed than this fantasy...

Would've not been happy with that performance if it can from my boys (AC Croygas) on a sunday. But coming from Sutton on our recent run of form this season i'll take the point because we can't seem to string two results together at the moment.
Thought AJ was MOTM today doing brilliant to deputise JG with his leadership and his heading not to mention his tackinling (Reminds me of when i'm on form!), we still lack the midfield we've been missing this season and the 'Hacket' man in the middle.
The first half was like watching my team and that is not how i would like Sutton to play . The Subs gave us an attacking edge but like said previous it was too little to late at the time.
oh well hope i beat Wimbledon Athletic today and i can go to work with my head held high.
Roll on Horsham next Saturday! (Three points please oh Lord!)

What's the thinking behind putting a bloke who scored two goals in the last game on the bench ?
What's the thinking behind putting a bloke who can only kick the ball with his left foot, down the right hand side ?
Thankyou

Answer to first question: he picked up a knock in the game! Do you not read the managers column?

Answer to first question: he picked up a knock in the game! Do you not read the managers column? No,sorry i didn't see it.Was he OK for just 20 minutes then ? What sort of injury is it that allows you to play only for a certain amount of time ? I expect Watts has the same kind of thing ?

One of those games where the crowd deserved more credit than the teams. Having said that I thought a draw was on the cards bearing in mind that Carshalton's first priority was to tighten up all round the pitch and that is what happened - had they had a bit more about them up front they could possible have won the game. It was a bitty, messy and unstructured match with little quality in the midfield. As has been said when Charlie and Danny came on things improved for us and (as NTG has said) before Christmas I would have been happy with 4 points from these two games.

Twice, late in the game a Sutton player had the ball out wide with absolutely nobody to cross it to.The second time the goalkeeper was out of the game, the goal wide open, the ball was crossed along the six yard box and there was no Sutton player anywhere to be seen.
Get Charlie Ide in,or Jolly whose wages are nowhere near half of the ludicrous figure mentioned elsewhere in this forum.

Sadly, that was a poor show against a side with little to offer in return. Have to agree with Taz I'm afraid. Not the kind of performance that will see us in the play-offs, unless the rest of this league are just as useless as that game . BTW, this is the revised, rationalized version. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

I think some folk need to lighten up and quickly!
Did we really imagine that Carshalton would be as accommodating as they were at GGL on Boxing Day? They were always going to be tighter and more competitive in this derby game than they were in that one.
Ok the first half was disjointed but, apart from giving away too many soft free kicks from which they posed their greatest threat, I thought we defended well and didn't look like conceding from open play; AJ had a particularly good game.
The midfield battle was always going to be frenetic with little time available on the ball - Pouton for us and Beaney for them provided the few moments of quality in that area. The manager's column told us all we needed to know regarding the selection issues up front and consequent tactics all of which made sense to me.
Happy pills please folks - four points out of six and two clean sheets over the festive period against our neighbours; hardly cause for fears for our Play-Off chances of which I remain extremely confident!
