I remember sweeping the lines for a SSC match v Redhill. The snow had piled up around tea-time. U's were 2-0 down when the ref abandoned the match. We won the rescheduled tie & went onto win the cup & the next five as well.

It used to be if the pitch was playable the game was on.Now we have to worry about people falling over outside.........................obviously if they do it will be someone else's fault.

Having seen the pitch under a layer of snow how does a club like ours plan for the future? I know leaving a blanket of snow helps to insulate the ground from some of the frost. However when the temps start rising what do we do? A) Let it thaw and wait for it to drain. B) Use an army of volunteers to clear it rapidly when it starts to thaw. If B) how many people, how long and where do you put the snow? Timing is the key and having people around at the right time. As most people work, an evening under floodlights seems the perfect answer. Methinks it would be too much of a challenge for a club like Sutton. Maybe we could get a work party from HMP Banstead

I am reliably informed that if the pitch had already frozen before the snow fell (which was the case this time), then the snow acts as an insulation blanket that prevents the pitch from thawing.
I can remember games on a snowy pitch as well but not when it was 4-6 inches deep.
I'm not especially concerend about people travelling to the game, but we would have a responsibility to make the car park safe and at the moment it is very icy - we'd need a lot of volunteers to shovel all the snow away.

I had forgotten about the bitterly cold weather before the snow. So I stand corrected. Whatever happens in the next 5 days may be too late for pitches in the Ryman for Saturday. Especially those located in the Borehamwood area as I imagine they got it worse than us.

have the players been able to train indoors at all due to the weather etc, Twitter says they trained on an indoor tennis court so they've done something. Not too sure how much or what though!

With or without the nets? WITH! Apparently we have no chance of making the playoffs now but AJ's backhand volley is improving Also the team like it as you only have to score twice to go 30-0 up!

Do any older supporters remember the season of 1962/63 ? I'm sure filbert will as Leicester City got to the Cup Final.
There were no games played between Boxing Day 1962 and 23rd February 1963.
I don't remember getting any time off school whatsoever !
