Those of you who were unable to make the "Meet the Manager" session prior to the recent match against Carshalton may not have seen the latest initiative proposed by Dos to "boost the budget" and help us to progress our ambitions on the pitch.
Here is the note which was circulated at that meeting and printed in the matchday programme:
Dear fellow Sutton United fan,
Welcome to season 2012/13 – here’s to another exciting nine months of football down the Lane!
The players and management team have been working extremely hard over the last six weeks or so preparing for the new campaign. Our switch to morning training sessions at our excellent facility down in Guildford has been very well received and I really believe we have now assembled the best squad of players I have had the pleasure to work with during my time at Sutton.
Looking to compete and to continue to go forwards at this level is a costly business and we are looking to work to exactly the same budget as we had last season. However, it is our ambition to progress this great club on and off the pitch and assembling this season’s management team and squad of players does come at a price and I estimate that we are currently operating at around £300 per week over the budget which Bruce and I have put in place over the course of the season. That is why the initiatives in place around the club to raise extra money such as Stewart’s “Lucky Striker” draw and Adrian’s “United We Stand” Initiative are so important to help us to achieve our goals. It’s also why I want to launch a “Boost the Budget” campaign to run alongside Stewart and Adrian’s schemes to ensure that we can retain the services of the quality of playing staff we have gathered to wear the Sutton United shirt with pride this season.
Accordingly; I would ask each of you to consider joining the “United We Stand” Initiative – just £75 for the season gives you the chance to win some great SUFC prizes including two chances to win “a day with the team”. “Lucky Striker” offers three cash prizes each month for just £5 per month…and “Boost the Budget” will take the form of a bucket collection at each home game – any loose change you have, please chuck in the bucket; every single penny helps. Raffle tickets will be handed to every contributor (irrespective of the amount involved) and a draw made at half-time for free entry to the next home match. The winning ticket holder will also be invited to take on the “crossbar challenge” – hit the bar from the edge of the penalty area and a season ticket for 2013/14 is yours! Other fundraising schemes will also take part during the season to boost the budget and EVERYONE can play their part whatever the amount they can afford.
One of the things that has always appealed to me about Sutton United FC is the terrific unity throughout the club – here’s an opportunity to demonstrate that togetherness and help us to achieve our goals…on and off the pitch.
Now let’s get the noise levels even higher this season in support of the team.
Many thanks for your ongoing tremendous support.
Yours
Paul Doswell

So;
We've got some buckets and we've got loads of raffle tickets so the job is a good 'un. However, to make this happen we need VOLUNTEERS to man/woman the buckets and hand out the tickets for the draws to be made. Every single bit helps and if we get enough people happy to stand by the entrances collecting loose change, folk will only need to help out once every five or six games.
PLEASE volunteer your support for this idea to help with collections on this thread or by e mail to uws@suttonunited.net.
We're all in this together..and it promises to be another very exciting ride!
