Temper's the one thing you can't get rid of, by losing it.

Hoisted by my own petard!
I'm sorry if I've caused offence, I'm not claiming perfection (and the mistake Honsec pointed out was embarrassing) but it bothers me that so many people post on here with so much to say and so much passion but they cannot be fucked to quickly check through a post for glaring errors that make them look stupid.
I'm not just referring to OS either, his post just happened to be the most recent example of postings that are getting on for incomprehensible.
I get this depressing sense that being able to write effectively isn't considered a worthwhile skill to people anymore. Be it on this forum or in life in general.
It should be a matter of pride that you can communicate clearly and correctly in your first language.
I don't see why this forum is any different from a CV or a work e-mail or a GCSE exam.
I'm obviously in a minority.
Btw, please don't think I'm trying to claim any sort of superiority over any of you.
I'm a 25 year old man who still lives with his parents and works in a pub and spends all his money on beer and football.
I am not a definition of success in any way, shape or form. I'm sure all of you have more money, bigger houses, better jobs, bigger brains, larger cocks, nicer cars and more attractive girlfriends than I've ever had or will have.
It would just be nice if people would spend a few minutes checking their posting and take a bit of pride in their writing so reading this forum isn't the physically painful effort it has been recently.

Having written all that I've just looked at myself and realised I have just wasted ten minutes of my life being bothered about something completely insignificant.
Ah well.

Not completely insignificant, as few people consider that there may be other people reading their posts for whom English is not their native language and are faced with 'new' words that, of course, don't actually exist.

Although I may not agree with Nick's approach, there is a certain resonance in what he says. If you want to be heard (and really, we all do if we are posting on a public forum) then other readers will be more receptive if your message is in good, clear simple english. Whilst I appreciate that it won't be everyone's strongest skill, I feel Nick does have a point.
Personal abuse however, or "trolling" to give it it's proper modern name, is totally unacceptable, and as a moderator on here I'll be more than happy to act on.
Other mods, shall we put in some rules on here about sanctions?

Er, what if you are dyslexic? Does that mean you shouldn't post? My problem is my typing these days but tbh, I couldn't give a stuff. This is a football forum not a a piece of drafting software for a white paper. As long as the post can be understood does it matter? After all, the only one embarassing themselves is the poster.
Now, on the other hand that Billy........lol

A little tolerance and understanding doesn't go amiss. But if you express yourself badly then people may assume that your thinking is equally sloppy and that your opinions aren't worth much. That doesn't necessarily follow, of course, but first impressions are very powerful.
In this quickfire digital age we feel pressure to get our views out there as fast as we can. But, before hitting the 'post reply' button, it's worth spending a minute or so reading through what you've typed and asking yourself whether it makes the sense that you'd want.

I am totally with MarkF on this, there are no rules in place on this forum for good use of English or spelling, but there are for personal abuse. To quote a post and to attempt to put a person down because of errors in the way the post is written is not only ignorant but also a form of bullying. As Mark has pointed out there are many reasons why posts maybe mispelt or suffer from poor grammar. In my case when I use the ipad the keyboard is unreliable and often misses out letters, this is not helped by suffering from a little word blindness which means I don't see the errors when I read it back.
I find the use of swear words in posts as a far worse crime and how someone can have the nerve to complain about the use of Englsh whilst using the word 'f*ck' is beyond me?
I have no problem with a thread being started to discuss use of English but to take a unprovoked swipe at anyone is and remains against the rules of this forum!

How this thread travelled from the postponed game against maidenhead to the respective size of posters' genitalia can only be explained by the fact that we have been starved of bleedin football. Just gotta hope we get back to business tomorrow.

I have no problem with a thread being started to discuss use of English but to take a unprovoked swipe at anyone is and remains against the rules of this forum! Actually os, there are not, and if there are there are none which are easily found by the user. There used to be a message at the top regarding "please play nice" but that seems to have disappeared long ago. See my earlier post about us mods putting some rules in place so that actually it's clear. Medibot has a warning level, yet there is nothing to say here that according to the "rules of the forum" he crossed a line. It's like being done for speeding on a road which has no defined speed limit. The arresting officer could say that 20mph is too fast or 100mph is too fast, depending on who they are. I know there has certainly been at least one occasion in the past couple of a weeks where I thought in terms of the user, they deserved a warning for a quite obvious attempt at a personal dig at another user. But without any rules you can't really do something about it. See my earlier post about putting rules in place.
