Basingstoke Town aim to begin play-off push with victory over Sutton Unitedwww.basingstokegazette.co.uk/sport/10955527.Basingstoke_Town_aim_to_begin_play_off_push_with_victory_over_Sutton_United/ By John Boyman, Sports ReporterHAVING seen his side force their way back into Conference South play-off contention, Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow now wants them to push on with an unbeaten run. Saturday’s 3-1 win at Eastbourne Borough saw Town move up to eighth in the table and while results elsewhere on Tuesday night mean they now sit 10th, they are just three points outside the play-off positions. A couple more wins could see Basingstoke climb into the top five – but the table is so congested that one defeat is likely to result in them dropping down the standings. Bristow said: “It’s very, very tight in the table and we are in a good position, but it is important that we do not allow that to slide. “We have had chances to climb the table before but have not been able to take advantage, so it’s important that we pick up points and go on a bit of an unbeaten run, making sure that we do not lose if we are unable to win games. “We are disappointed not to be higher up but pleased that we are as close as we are, having dropped so many points. Now we have to make sure that we do not drop as many points in the second half of the season.” Next up for Basingstoke is a home game against fourth-placed Sutton United, who boast a very strong side, particularly in forward areas. “Sutton have got some very good players and are a very good attacking side. Their front six are very comfortable on the ball and I expect them to try to play through us. We need to make sure that does not happen. “A lot of managers have said that they are one of the best teams they have come up against but we just have to worry about ourselves. If we perform like we did last Saturday, then we will have every chance.”

There's a lot of rain forecast for tomorrow (Fri) but Saturday is expected to be fairly dry.
Our best hope may be that the Camrose pitch, being on chalky ground, drains quite well.

Nelson’s frustration at the weather has a United feel to it By Tim AshtonSutton United defender Mitchell Nelson is feeling the frustration after yet another Skrill South match at Gander Green Lane was postponed due to the weather. United have played just once this year after the games at Hayes & Yeading and Dover Athletic were also postponed. Despite the lack of action United remain fourth in the table, but such is the disparity in games played by the top teams, that may be a moot position. However, according to Nelson, the players just want to get out and play. “When you train and train, you get all built up and prepared for a game and when it doesn’t happen, you’re so frustrated,” the 24-year-old summer signing said. A minute ago he was signing for next season! Wonder if it means they were daft enough to pay a fee for him as presumably tying him up for next season meant we wanted him to stay? Or perhaps the player got a good offer and we didn't want to stand in his way?? I'm sure we will hear in due course. Not upset to see him go TBH, liable to errors and moments of madness. Best of luck to him.

If we decide to sign a player on for a year, I guess it is because he is wanted. However every player has a price, I assume Margate offered us a good sum and we accepted it. It will be good business if we manage to get a better player. Time will tell.

I wasn't keen on him to start with but once he settled in i thought he was excellent. Now we don't have a right back or will someone new turn up tomorrow! This revolving door is getting ridiculous.

That depends on the 'signing' date, I think' on his one month's loan from them....his debut was on Boxing Day so it's touch and go as to when the loan period finishes / finished

I guess that's the way it goes! If something isn't working you change it. You let someone go and bring in a change! If a player gets a better offer, it's likely he will go! If he had signed a contract for next year, that may intresting to find out if a sum was paid, Or had he just 'signed on' for us for next year, two different things I believe.
I'm pretty sure Dos was trying to extend all loan players until the end of the season if he could... time will tell. If we can keep the Charlton lad in on loan until then, that would be a bonus.
I guess there must be something more appealing than the sea front down at Margate, and I'll give you one guess!

Thanks Johnnie, theres our cover. Dos made it clear he was going to make changes after the Staines match, having had the unfavoured task of having to watch Tonbridge, Dorchester and Staines again and take out the highlights the facts were simple. Our left hand side was being cut to ribbons by even the basement sides and we lacked pace at the back. Mitch was a good player but was getting caught out of position too many times and it should have cost him a red at Bwood. The 4 who have already gone to Margate conceded 4 in 45 mins to Dulwich in the RP and that should tell us a lot. It is still early days with Dos's reshuffle but we did keep a clean sheet at Chelmo breaking their run of wins, who have since gone on to score 7 in 2 matches since we beat them, I wish Mitch well at Margate, but Dos is no fool.
