The harsh truth at this level is that finishing 2nd is not enough and you have to prove yourselves all over again in the play-offs. Maybe our players thought they'd done the hard work by coming away from Crabble with a draw. But losing 3-0 at home to a side playing for over 85 minutes with ten men is a shocking failure to grasp a golden opportunity. Full credit to Dover for getting their tactics spot-on, but the result really does raise big questions about our team's ability to rise to the big occasion. None of our outfield players really impressed this afternoon.
Ricky Modeste was the pivotal player in this match. His first half foul on Will Spetch forced off the returning Sutton defender who was replaced by Ben King, a talented young player but who'd been given the runaround by Modeste in the first leg and had been subbed at half-time. It was King's error that led to the first of Modeste's two goals today.
So that's twice in five seasons we've finished 2nd but then lost at home in the play-offs to the side that finished 5th. We have to respond in the way we did in 2010/11. Shove the play-offs, we have to go out and win the Conference South in 2015.

....a brief resume of my day, a very pleasant trip up thru the New Forest. traffic fairly light, a little early for the caravans. Arrived at the ground about 12.20pm noticed that the car park was busy, signs of a good attendance. Time for a couple of beers...then to a very nice lunch, Prawn Cocktail with brown bread, Roast Beef with all the trimmings and a very enjoyable pudding followed by coffee. Won a prize in raffle, the makings of good afternoon I thought. Bruce introduced a light hearted moment, a prize for the tatiest jumper, little did I realise that was about the only entertainment I was about to witness. Found our seats in the stand, time to walk around the ground and chat to people I had not seen for sometime, looked at where the new developments will be for a brighter future. Collected my yellow balloon and waited hopes high and full of anticipation. Sutton finished a worthy second in the league had beaten Dover home & away in the league and had come away from Dover 1 - 1 in the first leg. First signs that something was wrong my balloon had a hole in it. Was this an omen I thought? Waited for the kick off the team I had followed all season never turned up today.!!!! ( the game itself has been amply covered by others). No doubt there will be many changes before next season, with various loan departing, and new faces arriving, I did feel sorry for DOS...the season blown away in 90 minutes!! That's all folks and thanks.

Some harsh words on here for a team that have got us to our highest ever Conference south finish. Very good point, OS. Let's not forget that. I'll be going to the party next week to celebrate with the team that got us our best ever Conference South finish, not with the team that didn't turn up in the playoffs.

Official attendance: 1671. I wonder how many of those will come back for the first game of next season.

I for one will be back, and there will only be one thing on the agenda and that is winning the title. We are a club on the up, we will be putting infrastructure in place over the summer to allow us to go forward. We maybe wounded today but we will be back and next season will see Dos go one better.

Such a shame the season ended like that a truly and utterly disgraceful performance, against ten men is an embarrassment!! sadly no players deserves any credit today everyone of them were pathetic to just give up like that is unacceptable.
Dare I say it but maybe a change of management is required new ideas.
