Why do Wrexham fans think you can’t do a sliding tackle on a 3G pitch? They’re either 30 years behind the times or have never watched Nicky Bailey!

I think there's often a perception about 3G pitches that they don't make things slightly different, they must make things radically different. And it's not different for better and worse, it's only different for worse. Good discussion on that forum. Props to the Wrexham fans.

Since the article in last week's Sutton Guardian, which reflected on the terrible dilemma facing United if promoted, I have written to the FA, EFL, and Sutton's MP Paul Scully. I anticipate the EFL response will be along the lines of:- "cant have one rule for one/some, and not others/everyone". If the EFL decision is based on a 2015 vote, it should be urgently revisited, and a new ruling implemented for 2018/19, not 2019/20, which would be too late for SUFC if promoted. 4 matches called off last weekend for being waterlogged! As I suggested to our MP, he has now written in turn to the minister for sport, highlighting the benefits of the 3G pitch for the community, the team/club, and the dire consequences of rejection of promotion, resulting in double relegation. Why penalise success or deny the club revenue and the community the facility? Perhaps other EFL clubs would embrace the modern technology if fully aware of the commercial and community benefits.

One of them argued that since our pitch was "unique" it gave us an advantage. Not one of the better anti-3G arguments I've seen. Every grass pitch is unique - some are chalky, some have a big slope, some are sticky clay soil and so on - whereas our pitch would be pretty much identical to another of the same model. You'd probably find more difference between Wrexham and Torquay's pitches than between ours and Bromley's.

There are so many advantages to the 3G(or whatever)surfaces. On Saturday I was working so couldn't do Dover. The only games at a reasonable level that I could get to in time were Leamington or Oxford City.Miserable wet day so chose City as it would definitely be on.Makes life so much easier for supporters.(As it happens Leamington was on but I hope you see my point!)

Didn’t realise if we were to refuse and go down to NLS, we wouldn’t be allowed in the VNL until a grass pitch was put down, makes me even more worried now but I still stand that we shouldn’t remove the pitch for obvious reasons of the community and what is has done for the club.

I have forwarded this excellent article written in the Times to our/my MP Paul Scully.
His office have confirmed that Paul has written to Tracey Crouch MP Minister for Sports & Civil Society and is awaiting a reply .
Please please forward on the Times article to your friends and let them make this a hot topic in this unjust world of football!

SUFC have a copy of Paul Scully's letter to Tracey Crouch, minister for sport.
I fear that any change of heart by EFL, (at their June AGM), will be too late for next season; in the event of promotion being secured; and unlikely until 2019/20.
A third option (to changing to turf or refusing promotion) is to lay a double membrane and turf on top of the 3G, until the EFL sees the commercial sense and community benefit, and allows 3G. Don't hold your breath though while the dinosaurs are still in charge

The one development, an important one, is that they have hinted at considering on a divisional basis. This seems to suggest there must be at least some appetite introduction for 3G at League 2 level only. If that was voted through in June you'd have to say it would be utter madness to insist on grass for any team promoted with 3G. Oh well, the story will rumble on. All the club can do at this stage is try to make sure it is an issue come season end! Am sure we'll land on our feet no matter what happens. Too much has been put in to the club for it not to.
