A 74-YEAR-OLD Sutton United fan made it all the way to Holker Street on Saturday – only to find his 600-mile round-trip was for naught. Steve Hodge was a lone figure on the Barrow AFC terraces at 1.30pm, following a long trek from his home in Great Bookham, Surrey. Full story.. link

What has absolutely infuriated the Sutton supporters is the complacent ineptitude from the Barrow officials in the lack of action in calling off the game in a timely manner, when traditional weather forecasts had predicted bad weather. The lame excuse is exactly that. Barrow has a responsibility to ensure sufficient time is provided to avoid supporters having a six hour wasted journey. It just is not rocket science, basic commonsense. Regards, John.

I remember a game around 10 years ago at Boreham Wood that was called off pretty much at kick off because of freak weather. I honestly think that Barrow couldn't have called the game off much earlier. As for their pitch that's another matter but if the weather came in at 9 10 this morning there isn't much they could do.

Ever rained in Sutton but not in dagenham? I suspect it has. A colleague of mine lives in Ulverston 8 miles away and last week arrived with snow on car. Your pitch is so bad we wouldn’t be able to tell the difference anyway.

I have some sympathy with Barrow, its not their decision to call off a game, if as stated the rain came this morning, the pitch may only have become unplayable around lunchtime when it was called off. I am not really sure Barrow could even if they had foreseen the rain actually convince a ref to call it off when the pitch was actually playable?
However where the argument gets me is simply, that 3G pitches avoid all the issues (apart from snow), the surface is far better at this time of year, and you can gain an income from the pitch to give you a better team? Whether you are a U's fan or a Barrow fan, I cannot see past that argument?
