Surprised to see no Stearn. Guess he is match fit and sharp after his loan at Bath. Good luck tonight everyone. For those on the pitch and those braving the elements. A noticeable absentee.

Let's play guess the crowd ! I'll go for 90. Only the stand open ....... Rest of the ground closed for safety reasons.

Disappointed with the club today, I turned up and paid my entrance fee - I was given no warning that only the grandstand would be open tonight. I wandered round to where I normally stand only to be informed after kickoff that we had to move to the other side of the ground, Moved round to the grandstand side and was standing by the railings when we where again approached and told we had to sit in the grandstand. Now I don't like sitting at football, also the seats are uncomfortable and the leg room is fine if you are 160cm tall and built like a rake, I am neither of these. I asked the man telling us to move into the grandstand why and he said it was for safety reasons as the ground might freeze up and become dangerous. Now if the ground is dangerous from a health and safety point why where spectators allowed in to begin with? So thanks to some officious oaf I managed to watch 15 minutes of football before I walked out of the game. £8.00 for 15 minutes of football. Ridiculous. And before you all ask, I know what the seating is like because I was forced to take a grandstand season ticket last year due to my fathers ill health. All this could have been resolved by telling paying customers at the turnstile that only the grandstand would be open tonight. Safe to say I will not be returning to any SSC fixtures in the future

All this could have been resolved by telling paying customers at the turnstile that only the grandstand would be open tonight. Safe to say I will not be returning to any SSC fixtures in the future I'm sure the unpaid volunteer on the gate is absolutely mortified that, having read your mind as you clearly should be able to expect, omitted to inform you personally that your personally preferred match day accommodation was unavailable. However, there are several seats at the front of the stand (which normally costs more than standing accommodation and much more than £8) with about a metre and a half of legroom. What a pity you didn't notice. We miss you. It was absolutely unforgivable of the club to ensure they opened the part of the ground they could virtually guarantee was safe for spectators rather than, as you suggest, postpone the match, cause the clubs fixture congestion and waste everyone's time. That would have been ideal. You should ask the club for a refund of the £8 they forced you to pay and then forced you to leave the ground rather than, perhaps, standing with the approximately 60 spectators who are currently standing by the perimeter fence between the dugouts and the club shop.

Well explained Sarah and to be honest, I was expecting the ground to be 70% closed due to ice and snow, the club have to make sure that the fans are kept safe and that games go ahead so the ground can be used at maximium rates and so the club don’t have to re-arrange fixtures, glad the club kept the game ahead but to be annoyed that the ground was mostly closed off is well a bit silly because they aren’t going to let people walk round if the ground is icy....
Another good decision by the club, good on them for keeping the game go ahead 👍

I normally characterise postings into the following types, buffonary, tomfoolery and lampoonary. However you my friend are something else so come and find me in the bar at the Woking game and I will personally give you your £8 back. I’ll also be happy to buy out the remaining games of you season ticket so that you never have to attend any fixtures in the future.

Those of us who stuck around had the novel experience of watching a game played entirely in sub-zero temperatures, something that wouldn't have been permitted on the old grass pitch. Yes it felt cold, but no more uncomfortable than at the GGL end last Saturday with that keen easterly wind in our faces.
And so, as three seasons ago, Merstham are our 2-1 conquerors in the SSC. We started with six first-team regulars, but five of those were in midfield or up front, with Simon Downer the only experienced player in the rearguard. Merstham took the game to us, their right-winger Alex Addai a threat throughout the game, and they forced one good early save from Tarell Annakie as well as a string of first-half corners. But the quality of Josh Taylor and Tommy Wright was always likely to pose a threat at the other end, and those two combined on the break to give us the lead, Josh crossing for Tommy to score one of his more straightforward goals.
Both sides squandered scoring opportunities in the second half before sub Tayshan Hayden-Smith equalised for Merstham, snapping up his chance after the ball had rebounded off a post. Ironically, it was Downer's slip that let in Hayden-Smith for his and Merstham's second. After that, with Josh then Harry B withdrawn, Sutton rarely looked like getting back into the game.

Only one disappointment for me. There are fringe players in the squad who you are hoping would seize the chance to show what they can do. There were two last night who singularly failed to seize that opportunity. If you can’t look a good player against Isthmian opposition, you question why we keep them on.
