A great effort by all at Sutton United to finish 3rd. Massive congratulations to the players, management and all involved. It could still get better (or worse !) depending on your point of view.

It's funny how people view the game. I noted that Aldershot had just one shot in the first half and that was cleared off the line by JC. We were by far the better side in the first half. It was only when Aldershot got a dodgy pen that they sprang into life putting in dangerous crosses and generally putting us under pressure. They were rather wasteful with their shots.
Strangely I think the first corner of the match came in something like the 70th minute!
Well done to Dos and the team on an amazing, remarkable season. 2 more wins please

Oh, and today's penalty, if it comes under scrutiny by the FA diving panel, I think you could find the Shots no7 season ended today. It was a clear dive, daylight between him and Bailey, maybe 2 feet between them when he goes down.. There was a blatant dive in the second half that went unpunished !

Completely agree with that. Certainly didn’t see us overrun in the midfield in the 1st half and thought we were clearly the more dangerous side going forwards. Bolarinwa was more of an attacking threat than their forward minded players put together. That said it was a tight game and after the equaliser could have gone the other way. We had a helping hand from their keeps and that was that.

A grand finale to the regular season and p/o sf place booked in an interesting encounter against one of the better footballing side the NL has to offer.
That said, U's weren't bad either, attacking with pace, particularly down the right with motm, Tom B menacing for much of the afternoon.
Sutton had one scare in the first half but the ever-reliant JC was hand to clear.
Dos brought on HB for KC at the interval but it was a fine run and brilliant cross from TB that set up U's opener for Tommy W. To be fAair to Aldershot, knowing they needed the win, they went hard at Sutton but a fine defensive display meant Jamie B was rarely tested.
I have no idea what the pen was for so will leave that to the highlights to clear up but for a while after Aldershot looked to be in the ascendancy. But Sutton, always bright on the break continued to repel all borders and Josh Taylor cut in from the right and hit a low, left foot shot that Ward could only spill for Ross L to score what was to be the winner.
Dos was pretty bold with the decision to remove a midfielder for Ross L but it worked as Sutton finished the match strongly at both ends of the pitch to record a fine victory and without Craig E and Terell Thomas.
At Aldershot, it was Sutton who played all the football and while the visitors certainly did try to pay back the compliment they lacked the finishing to match their approach play.
Ref did ok, although you wouldn't have accused him of being a "homer".
So, on the day the club remembered Barrie Williams, the team delivered on the pitch, in front of an impressive 3,500 - the great man would have been proud. The minutes applause was well observed by all - the seated Aldershot fans rising as one for the act of remembrance. Perhaps they recalled BW's team that destroyed their former club here at GGL back in 1987? Shame that a couple on their forum should decide to dwell on our ground's shortcomings and (boringly) the 3G. They should remember that our origins are amateur football and not the EFL, which is theirs.
So thanks to the Aldershot fans whose behaviour on the day was far better than the Sutton fan who decided to throw that smoke bomb. What a complete and absolute moron you are.
The after-match awards day followed and by 6pm I was plastered and led away before it got too messy. Congrats to all the winners. Jamie Collin's POY award well-deserved (as I have said before his consistency reminds of Tony Rains, no mean comparison) and Jamie B for the ultimate accolade, the award from his colleagues. He must be well chuffed with that and rightly so.
So onto next Sunday and what should be the toughest match of the season, the prize a trip to Wembley.

On the part about the smoke bomb, it wasn’t any of us, we don’t recall who did it but it wasn’t any of us regulars that normally go. That person is indeed a moron but to be fair it was a big moment and did heavily improve the mood and atmosphere for us lot behind the goal so some credit to the moron

Ryan I'm going to be honest with you, I really appreciate how much you and your mates get behind the team but I can't believe you're trying to justify that. If someone flagrantly breaks the ground regulations in a way that's potentially dangerous to a lot of people on a packed terrace, no way is it just their business.
Edit: I see you've edited your post and suddenly you don't know who it was, they weren't one of your mates any more and you're no longer trying to pass it off as people supporting their teams in different ways. Well I'm glad at least one of us saw your original post.

Well I don’t know who it was, it wasn’t any of us regulars, and I don’t remember seeing who did it. I suppose it was wrong for that person to bring it into the ground and agree with you on that part. Just hope that moron doesn’t do it again

Just do a quick Google search and you’ll find loads of examples of fans being jailed for letting off flares at football matches. It’s not only very stupid and potentially dangerous it’s also a criminal offence.

Right. Well I thought I knew who it was and asked my mates and I asked whether it was that person and they all said it wasn’t any of them, I thought someone said that someone else was gonna bring one and they didn’t so I apologise for that mistake, that’s what my post intended.
Can we just leave this off the main forum now, I’ll happily talk about it on private message but let’s just keep this to game and the finalisation of getting a semi final in the playoffs.

Of course they'll say it wasn't them. Someone must have seen, there were loads of people in that section.

But credit to the moron for improving the mood and atmosphere..........well that's OK then,... Well it did improve the atmosphere and mood from our perspective and made the atmosphere louder so if anything although it is a criminal offence, it benefited our support and atmosphere.
