We've effectively lost Louis John and Terrell Thomas from our strongest 11 and gained Clough, Wishart, Bennett and Jonah. That is some great work, now add a good preseason for Josh Taylor and Harry Beautyman and we have one hell of a squad on paper.

Just because some teams have spent a lot it won't guarantee them success at this level. I fully expect an open league like last season and have a sneaky suspicion we will go two better !

On the face of it I feel we have a better squad this season than last. Any advance on 3rd place? I intend to do a separate prediction thread nearer the start of the season, but on the face of it we do look to have a better squad in terms of quality than the last campaign albeit slightly smaller in numbers. A lot of the departures this close season have been fringe players you'd have to say (Walton, Stearn, Jeffrey, Emmanuel, Spence etc). I look forward to seeing what impact the four new signings will have (two of whom need little introduction) and also the continued development of prodigious talents Tommy Wright and Josh Taylor. Could we also finally see the inclusion of some academy products into the first team squad this season. |

I make it the following:- Butler (gk), Bennett (new), Spence, Clough (new), Beckwith, Downer, Collins, Wishart (new), Thomas, Bailey, Eastmond, Davis, Beautyman, Taylor, Dundas, Cadogan, Bolarinwa, Wright, Lafayette. Plus Jonah Ayunga although Lafayette has gone. Is that it then with under a week to go until the start of the season. |

Anyone else think we look a little light at centre-half following Simon Downer moving on, I make it 3 centre-backs in the squad but maybe Ayunga can be called upon there if needed?!

We had 4 last year and played the bulk of the 2nd half with 1 of those and a loanee. No transfer window means we will have options going into the season when we need them rather that getting another who will sit on the bench or just get loaned out |

I'm sure Nicky Bailey would relish a go at centre-half if needed if that meant getting a game.

I'm sure we will see Dos' excellent relationship with Paul Cook come through again at some point if we are struggling for bodies. We've taken 4 players from him in the last 2 seasons
