That's a strongly worded statement from Bromley who have had a couple of digs at Sutton (even if indirectly) and seem to be blaming all but themselves. The ineligible player has been with them months so they have little excuse with regards not supplying correct paperwork. One wonders if he was ineligible for the FA Cup too although no idea if he played in it. Certainly not harsh as it is a breach of competition rules irrespective of how long he came on for. So, after their clamour over one sub on NYD another ends their Trophy hopes. Their fans, players and management must be well pissed off but football ain't just played on the pitch as anyone who has held an admin role at a football club would know (which, if memory serves, includes Billy). Well played Sutton United's secretary by the sounds of it, whoever he/she may be..

What would happen if Sutton United were to say thanks, but no thanks,we lost fair and square ? Would Bromley play Spennymoor or would Spennymoor get a bye ? If Sutton did that, then Spennymoor would get a walk over. Bromley are expelled from this seasons competition

I had no idea until this season that a club secretary had to be as cunning as a fox!

If you've got a piece of paper from the parent club granting permission for the loaned player to play in the competition, they can play. If you don't, they can't. It's not landing a lunar module on the far side of the moon. Contemporary. Nice ref!

Reading a few things on Twitter, there's some real bad blood between Spennymoor and Bromley from last season. Aside from the various postponements, does anyone know if anything else happened?

Not sure what happened between the sides because after saying "enjoy the friendly locals" the Bromley chap on this thread didn't respond to my request for further information. I'm guessing storm in a teacup rather than raging 80s style battles on the terraces................or actually, I'm guessing absolutely nothing happened and the sour grapes are being spread equally towards ourselves and Spennymoor from the Bromley direction.

Some cracking and rather salty tweets from a few of the Bromley faithful.... "Good luck to you but I’ve wanted Sutton to lose every game they’ve played for about twenty years. They’ve been thoroughly serpentine over this Trophy business and Bromley fans should say as much." "I'd love to know how the Sutton secretary managed to view the Bromley fc paperwork that was submitted to the FA.." "I'm not a bitter person.. But.. Banjo = GRASS!" And replying to Bromley's statement "Important read for those seduced by the smiles from the other side of Croydon. Played a blinder but a cynical, dirty, malicious, spiteful trick." But in the interests of fairness, there's one Bromley supporter who is slightly more level headed "After Doswell being rather complimentary and fair in his comments recently I'd love to see them stuff Spennymoor and hopefully Brackley after that. Of course Brackley knocked them out last season"

In light of Bromley's self-proclaimed unimpeachability, I have no doubt that in all future games, they will refrain from remonstrating with match officials whenever they suspect a rival team has committed a rule infringement ... to conduct themselves otherwise would of course be hypocrisy of the lowest order.

You forget, Bromley are not capable of doing anything wrong. Where a referee penalises one of their players, the referee is wrong

As I said on another thread, BFC blaming everybody but themselves for their ejection. Sutton didn't mess up the paperwork and nor did the FA.
As for the comments on their forum, standard fare from ignoramuses I would suggest.

Reported in the Non league Paper today Neil Smith said "Someone at Sutton has been very thorough and thought there must be a way of getting through to the next round "

Reported in the Non league Paper today Neil Smith said "Someone at Sutton has been very thorough and thought there must be a way of getting through to the next round " Which is pretty daft of him as if there's one guarenteed way to make general sympathy for Bromley's situation evaporate, finger-pointing sour grapes is it.

My impression is that Bromley and Sutton Utd, and their respective managers, had a lot of respect for each other, but this business has obviously soured relations.
Some of Smith's comments, if accurately reported in the NLP, are a bit out of order. He thought that the FA sub-committee had "already made their mind up" before the meeting. If they'd been presented with unequivocal evidence of a breach of the competition rules, then they were entitled to do that. He also says "all we've ever done is give the FA Trophy the respect it deserves". But respect for any competition entails complying with its rules!

Essentially what we have here is a good old fashioned cock up. To point the finger anywhere else is crackers. As Dos said extensively in his interview it’s a horrible job club sec. Wouldn’t wish the responsibility on anyone and a role I would never volunteer for. Fair play to anyone that sticks their hand up for it. Unfortunately there is one person responsible (unless there is some sort of process in place that involves additional checks) and whilst I have sympathy with that person I’m sure they’ll be sticking their hands up as well.
I spoke at one recent game to a fellow supporter. IMHO it is also ridiculous in 2019 (or even 1999) that there is no online system that just picks out a player that is ineligible for a game and then prevents that player participating ahead of it happening. I’m baffled that registrations and the like aren’t all carried out online. Bromley should be through, our youth team should have gone through and we see it too often.
