FA don't have the resources to check every registration, loan agreement etc so up to the clubs. As a result there could be loads of such players and explains how our youth player took a year to be recognised as not having the correct clearance.

Trev FYI. The rule (15j i) about loan players in the FA Trophy requires the borrowing club to do 2 things. First, get a written authority from the lending club stating the player can play in the FA Trophy, second supply a copy of that written authority to the FA (as Competition organisers). The second part Bromley could not have done - because the original loan letter from Colchester omitted to mention the FA Trophy. Yes, that was my reading of the FA's rules too, hence what I wrote yesterday about not thinking the appeal would be successful.

Bromley mentioned in their statement that the FA were alerted to the issue by the Sutton secretary. Just out of interest, how would we know if a player is correctly registered with the FA? Is there a database or something, or do we literally raise it with the FA if there are loan players involved and hope for the best? Sorry if it's a silly question but I am a bit confused how we would know this player wasn't allowed to play in just the Trophy. It is not a silly question, and I wonder if Ray Ward will post the definite answer. There is an FA database called WGS = Whole game System. Club Secretaries do not normally have access to the complete player details of any club other than their own. However if you attempt to post an opposition player to your club the program tells you his current status (registered - loaned etc). So in that way you can check something about opposition players one at a time. I don't know if WGS states in which competitions other than league a loanee is permitted to play. There is another FA database called FT = Full Time which for any given league game or cup game lists all the players on the roster of the two teams who can play, updated Friday prior. A club can access that and see its own roster and the opponents roster. It is possible that the Bromley player did not appear on their roster for the FA Trophy and this is what Sutton spotted.

Thanks pinewalker, all seems very interesting! Shame you can't get in otherwise I'd be obsessively checking the other team after every game Sutton play haha.

Football club seeks applications to fill administrative position. Good rate of pay. Keen eyes essential. Previous experience in detective work and clandestine activity an advantage.

Ha ha. I bet Bromley's lot did exactly the same thing to us using those lists. And couldn't find an issue.

Was at Telford - Spennymoor today (the Bucks are now my 'local' non-league side). Spennymoor have a long throw 'specialist' - Dos will not like that! Although they broke well from defensive positions and taking into consideration they were the away side I did not see them as up to the standard of Brackley when Sutton played them in the Trophy last year. Highlights of the game will be on Telford's website later in the week - worth it also for the Bucks' second goal. www.telfordunited.com/default.aspx
