After watching Sutton almost snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yesterday,I am thinking of not renewing my season ticket.i am getting increasingly unhappy with the team taking the lead, then sitting on what we have.yesterday with a two goal lead we should have won comfortably but if Aldershot had not been so toothless in front of goal,we could well have lost,as we have done many times this season.i come up from Andover, and want to see entertaining football, and im not seeing it,i dont know who is telling the team to play defensivly, but if it carries on,I can see more people losing intrest

You’re unhappy with our small part time side beating a full time ex football league side just 3 days after winning a derby game and holding them to no shot on target bar a huge deflection for their goal. We’re sitting 8th in a full time league without our main striker who is out for the season and are just outside of the playoffs on goal difference and a game in hand. We’re sitting above countless full time sides with huge budgets that we could only dream of.
What do you expect?

People can just get a bit low at this time of year. Can't they?

On the face of it, it may appear that we’re not playing up to the same levels of last season, and yet, the statistics show that we’re one point better off than we were at this stage a year ago, in a league that’s undoubtedly a fair bit stronger as well. A sound defence is the foundation of a successful team.

Entitled to your opinion - I was just yesterday reflecting on 2018 being one of the best years I’ve ever had watching Sutton with its brilliant people on and off the pitch. Amazing how we can stand next to someone and see things so very differently. Yes I’d love to have scored 6 yesterday yes I’d love to see more goals but I have faith they will come and in the mean time the table tells a pretty good story. I can’t wait to renew my ticket take my money now

“We could have lost , as we have many times this season”. You mean just the 4 times in the league (of which 2 of those were possibly because of some poor refereeing). Only the top 2 have lost less.
We’ve played 33 competitive games this year with hardly a break for the players and we’re better off than last year. The players must be tired yet they produced some really good football yesterday at times.
I’m with ossie and can’t wait to renew my ST

I'm rather stunned at the original post. Only 3 points off 3rd place with a game in hand and you have the hump?
Maybe there is a call for a 'dislike' button that I requested on another thread.

I do have some sympathy for the post. The worst thing we can do it seems is to take the lead early as when we are all square or behind we continue with a positive attitude. It seemed to me that we attempted to pack the midfield yesterday in the second half yet still seeemd unable to win the ball. We left no one up when defending a corner and when hoofing the ball forward it came straight back as our single forward was no where near it. Add to that as already mentioned on this forum putting the ball straight out from goal kicks we never had the ball. Unlike the first half Dale Bennet hardly crossed the half way line in the second half.
The best time for us to score it seems is in the final few minutes. Yes we did soak up the pressure but why were we under that pressure?

Give your head a wobble op. This is one of the most embarrassing posts I’ve ever seen.
A part-time side, with numerous injury issues, has just recorded its third win in 9 days, over the festive period.
It wasn’t scintillating and myself and others around me were growing frustrated with how Aldershot were coming back into the game, but had Toure finished what looked to be a simple chance, I doubt you would be posting this. Fine lines.

I travel from Wales and all I want is to see Sutton win, and to have a nice time with my mates. Yes, some matches like yesterday can be frustrating but you know what I’m happy today because Sutton United won. Mate, I know you’ve been a Sutton fan for years, can you not honestly say that this isn’t the best shape the club has been in for decades? I would have loved to see us go goal crazy yesterday but you can’t have everything. I’m however more than content with winning our last 3 games and being in the playoff hunt

I think most of us expected to improve our goal difference yesterday after going 2-0 up after 6 minutes. This actually galvanised Aldershot and they didn't let their heads drop and came at us with renewed vigour. Sooner or later we will start to score goals for fun but it will happen when we least expect it.

I can see the original poster's point, and note with respect he has posted over 1000 times so he must have watched a lot of Sutton games. I would like to make a couple of observations: 1 about levels of competence and styles of play and another about the management being on top of the case.
In a football pyramid you can get promoted to a level the same squad cannot cope with, e.g. Fulham and Newcastle, and you can also arrive at a level where you will not hold your own unless you change your squad, or at least change your style. Bournemouth are a good example of a premiership level attack playing ahead of championship level defence. If Eddie Howe does not want to change their open attacking style they will continue to collect hidings from the top teams, but still have too much firepower for the lower ranked teams.
As that relates to Sutton - I don't think we have a fit squad with enough in hand over other National League sides to be able to play with an attacking swagger and put teams to the sword once we go ahead. In the National South we did have that edge. If the players themselves and the management would rather sit on a lead than open ourselves up by continuing to attack - they are probably right.
My second point is I see Dos and the coaches do notice everything that needs improving very quickly and are quite ruthless in making changes. Since last season until recently our main problem was in attack - we were not scoring enough goals. It was the case that our strikers weren't even attempting to strike, or did not have both the power and accuracy to do so. The recent recruits to the front line look to me like players keen to have a shot at goal. So U's management has addressed the primary problem and cured it. However that has exposed another problem, which might always have been there, players currently in our midfield are uncomfortable when pressed while in possession. They are not as a unit playing in Liverpool-style triangles to move the ball around while retaining possession and getting it infield from the touchline, which requires a fourth player behind them for a dump-off pass. Instead they are making hurried and inaccurate (usually over-hit) passes forward to nobody. The midfield players are being shuffled but so far the right mix eludes us.
I shall be renewing my season ticket - because I am confident that everything I notice as needing improvement is on the management's list - before I post about it. And they will be working on changes in personnel or tactics to effect it.
