At home I don’t think I’ve seen us play especially well this year. Dover and Maidenhead followed a familiar pattern to yesterday but led to points dropped. Dover was almost a carbon copy except for the fact we let in a late equaliser. I do wonder if we lack a little bit of confidence to go for the throat, take control and look to give ourselves a bit of a cushion. We are good enough to do that I’d say. If you go in front you should be able to pick teams off a bit but we didn’t really create much clear cut yesterday in the 2nd half. But this is really picky and comes from the belief that we are a very very good side. I would imagine the squad and management are also picky to be as good as we are.
Unfortunately I missed our best performance versus Wrexham. I also travel a fair distance to home matches. I certainly won’t hesitate to renew my season ticket however. We are, as rightly pointed out, in our best shape probably ever as a club. This is a decent standard and it is often difficult to play brilliant football as oppositions have an impact on what you can do. One thing you can say is that we will work very hard the entire game every game and it makes us hard to beat. The management and players are performing brilliantly overall.
A very odd post and particularly negative given we are coming up nicely on the rails.

I think the original poster is being far too negative. The facts are the current squad is probably up there with the best that has ever played for the club. At no time in out history until late have we been able to compete with the likes of, Tranmere, Wrexham, Leyton Orient, Torquay United, Chesterfield etc etc. This level of football was a dream for U's supporters up until just a few seasons ago. I don't think I could envisage, beating Leyton Orient away, rubbing Wrexham's noses in it at home and suffering a 1-1 draw with Chesterfield, and someone would say I am thinking of chucking my season ticket in..
This is crazy stuff, we are actually very good in a very tough league, where no team is actually crap, all can play, and you have to earn each and every point, and we have earned 9 of them in 3 matches.

Bizarre. Please renew and I'll make sure we all do something to make matchdays better for you. Perhaps a complimentary humbug as you enter the ground each game next season, or maybe we can knock down part of the ground so you get a better view of the railway line. Maybe just stand with the moaners on the corner terrace in future as they'll make you feel like you're on cloud nine.
Or maybe I'm just easily pleased. Either way I'll be renewing ours as soon as they go on sale.

We all want to see entertaining football. We all want to go to a match week in week out and brush aside the opposition. We all want crazy cup runs and Wembley silverware.
My take is in life we don't always get what we want, and throwing toys out of the pram on a forum isn't going to change or help anyone.
We're in a great position and sometimes we need to win dirty. It's such a shame that yet again expectations are unrealistic and Dos clearly saying "this is a reset season" has fallen on deaf ears.
Let's go back to the Ryman league where our resources will allow us to be more entertaining. We will lose many more supporters doing that than what we're currently doing.

It might be worth remembering that if we stay at this level, which I believe we will, we are still punching above our weight. We could, therefore, well expect to have a 'flat' season at some point. Bumping around in the lower half of the table. This division is very tight, can be very unforgiving, and it doesn't take massive misjudgements to end up in a thin patch, as can be seen from a few other clubs' positions.
I'd save the sadness for that time, if it comes. At the moment we're doing very well.

After watching Sutton almost snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yesterday,I am thinking of not renewing my season ticket.i am getting increasingly unhappy with the team taking the lead, then sitting on what we have.yesterday with a two goal lead we should have won comfortably but if Aldershot had not been so toothless in front of goal,we could well have lost,as we have done many times this season.i come up from Andover, and want to see entertaining football, and im not seeing it,i dont know who is telling the team to play defensivly, but if it carries on,I can see more people losing intrest Well done for sticking your head over the parapet.

I just lol'd. What a ridiculous thread.
We had our best ever league finish last year, 3rd. We currently sit on 46 points. At the same stage last season, we had 45 points. So we are currently beating our best ever season!!
Dos has always been realistic. Given how our budget compares to others in this league, number one priority is to make sure we avoid relegation. We are there now, and it wouldn't surprise me if we now start to be more confident and attacking in our play as target number two is 7th place.
Have a reality check. We are the best we have ever been and are clearly improving all the time. I'm also not sure you thought you would achieve by posting such a comment on the SUFC fan forum...
Happy New Year.

I also lolled at first sight but it has sat in my thoughts longer than it should have.
What worries me tremendously is that, and we do know this is the case, players and management read these threads and take away a general feeling of discontentment from the fans. We are generally a quiet bunch at home anyway, but what if that manifests into a feeling that we are not behind them and then some key individuals leave? I suspect 95% or more of us are absolutely loving where we are so we should keep the negative posts in perspective and I’m glad that is the case through this thread 🙂.
When we look back on this period in 5, 10, 20 years time we will be in awe of what Dos and the team have achieved. Up the Us.

I don't accept that punching above our weight idea, we are at our weight, because we earned the right to be here. That argument tends to lend itself to excuses for poor performances. As to where we are I don't think we are fully firing and we have a squad that can do slightly better. As a club we need to build on the foundations we now have to make sure this becomes our natural minimum level for future generations. One day (hopefully a long way away) the club is going to have to attract a new Dos, and it will be these foundations that will be used to enroll the next guy.
Lots of work to be done, nice to look where we have come from now and again, but that should not be a barrier as to where the can go...

I guess it comes down to where your expectations lie. I have only been watching Sutton play in the Doswell era but in that time I have seen 2 promotions, some fantastic runs in the cups and, at times, some scintillating football. I am happy to admit that we have had to change our style of play to suit our current needs and sometimes that makes us not as attractive to watch. But to counter that we have such a good blend of youth and experience in the team right now, especially with the addition of the academy players, and that makes me feel that, once again, Sutton are investing wisely in the future of the Club. I would hazard a guess that no club in the national league looks a a fixture against Sutton and thinks " that will be an easy 3 points" Sure it would be great to have a game when we win 6-0 and the team play great football. But ask yourself why did you start supporting Sutton United? I started because a mate invited me and I have loved going to games ever since Sometimes it is about the companionship, the camaraderie the banter. Great football sounds lovely. But a great team sounds even better and that is what Doswell and Co. are building right now. Have patience. Good times are always just around the corner at this club.

This is our 3rd season in this league. Doesn't that tell you something when our thoughts are of reaching the playoffs and not of relegation? All I can say is get a life. I shall definately be buying a S/T for 2019/20.

Something that gets mentioned a bit is "how good we are away compared to home".
26 games into the season - 13 home and 13 away.
Home record in the league W6 D5 L2. Away form W6 D5 L2. GD at home +3, GD away +4. So statistically we're 1 goal better away from home. And that's it! And in addition to that we went out of both FA competitions (and I'm presuming we are still out of the Trophy until official confirmation to the contrary) away from home and also out of the Irn Bru away from home too.
