I know you all want to get back to football, I fully get that, but how exactly is this going to play out? My head has had smoke coming out of it thinking about how fans can go back to football 'safely'? The cases in Europe have tripled in the past month, they are at the verge of going exponential on the little opening up that has already been done. I really do fear a 2nd lockdown - To me this is like rushing to jump over a cliff into the abyss. The most up to date epidemiology continues to strongly suggest that outdoor activities which observe appropriate social distancing are still very low risk. Saying that, I would respect anyone's decision not to attend outdoor events, especially those in vulnerable health groups. For my part, the social and psychological benefits of supporting my local club far outweigh the relatively low risk of Covid-19 transmission in a socially distanced outdoor environment.

I intend going to games armed with a 2 metre barge pole and a fully charged taser!

I agree it could be done by sensible people and prevent only a small risk, the problem is football fans are not collectively sensible. Wasn't it Atalanta vs Valencia Champions league match in February where the Italian outbreak originated?

In my view, there's a world of difference between 750 or so spectators socially distancing and an uncontrolled crowd in excess of 40,000 or so hugging and embracing.
Although in the defence of those Italian fans, the latter scenario took place a month before lockdown in Italy (on 9 March 2020), when relatively little was known about Covid-19 transmission.

We're very fortunate at this club to have someone like Dave taking up the reins. He has already got all the necessary procedures in place. Dave along with all the other NL club's COVID officers have a meeting with the League at 12.30 today. Ant Smith of Concord has already tweeted about how difficult he's finding it to get the necessary appointed officer/Doctor in place.

Our new MO is a really nice guy, but JR is right - how do clubs source a M.O. at a time of a national medical emergency ?? We were so lucky. One of our directors had a contact and, luckily, it paid off.
"He has already got all the necessary procedures in place." - Oh no we haven't !! We have so far calculated 25 new documents or procedures that need to be written. They all have to work with each other and they must all be perfect, approved by the MO, the League and our Licensing Officer. Also, I gave a presentation to all of the players and staff on Monday via Zoom to explain the protocols around a return to training. They will also need this for stages 3 and 5 and something similar for all club officers & volunteers.

I see SCR’s home friendly tomorrow is still behind closed doors.
Is there any chance of spectators for the ladies match on Sunday?

No, I'm afraid we are still not allowed ANY spectators into our stadium for ANY matches until the respective teams have procedures etc in place that have been approved by the Licensing Officer.
As I have indicated before, this is unbelievably complicated.

"It was a heart-breaking moment for some last Sunday when we had to pour away many gallons of old beer."
I wept when I read that.

I'm not usually anti-red tape as I think regulations generally exist for good purpose. But I do wonder about some of this, when we have what appear to be shoot from the hip policies from the Govt. Who will almost certainly move the goalposts on all of it, more than once, during the course of the autumn and winter.

I'm more ambivalent about the current situation. The safety of our players, staff and supporters is paramount and no stone should be left unturned in safeguarding health, especially when so many of us have lost loved ones in recent months, or had near misses. If there's a delay in returning to football until every safeguard has been complied with, then so be it. The situation's constantly shifting and I have no doubt that further revisions will need to be made as things develop over the new season.
