I can see them still being in this league next season given tier 2 looks like it is being voided. I would imagine there would be a soft touch, and mitigation, given the circumstances. This would presumably give them a competitive advantage over those who carry on and find extra cash so it’s certainly not clear cut what happens! Crazy times. Given the owner has stumped up millions over the years I would be surprised if he couldn’t afford to tide them over a month or 2. Unless Covid has ruined his financial position in which case fair enough. I think, speculating completely, they are playing on the situation and hoping a club or 2 follow essentially forcing the cancellation of the season. With the tier below seeing plenty of refusals to play if a few at this level do the same it’s hard to see them all being thrown out for the start of next season. Publicly not sure any other NLP side wants to stop? Going to be interesting how it all plays out. Exactly this. This is one chairman from a club already in financial trouble at the start of the season, who put the entire playing staff on a free transfer list. I agree with TonyD to an extent that we should feel some sympathy for Dover, but I just get the feeling that we don't know the entire story and this just doesn't feel as legit as it should do. It's totally been in their interest to end the league now, even without relegation. They don't want to be seen to be in the bottom 2 (again future investors may look on that in a negative way). It's a difficult choice for the league. Do they make an example of Dover to deter others from doing the same, or are they sympathetic to them. The league will always have it's own integrity as it's primary value, and this includes making sure that 2 go up into the EFL and a play off is at Wembley. If they feel that the actions of one chairman could undermine that, then they could respond robustly. But I think Gareth is right - they are doing this in the hope other sides follow because as I've mentioned before, this is the best outcome for them, but not especially for many others or the league.

What will happen if the government roadmap out of lockdown (to be announced on 22nd February) includes a date for re-admission of spectators?

What will happen if the government roadmap out of lockdown (to be announced on 22nd February) includes a date for re-admission of spectators? That will be interesting. Dover currently has 74 cases per 100000 (the national average is 130). Sutton is 127. Cases are dropping rapidly around London. East London has dropped remarkably for 3-4 weeks ago with most Boroughs now under the average. It'll be a tad ironic if the season gets canned just when we're about to be allowed back into the ground again.

My thoughts are that if we were almost definitely going to get relegated or reprieved if N/S seasons are voided, I would not want our club to borrow hundreds of thousands to do that.
Dover have chosen to stop playing, and under league rules they will have to justify that decision as being just reason. I am no lawyer but could see the argument going to court, because is it just cause or isn't just cause?
If others play on, then that sets a precedence, doesn't it?
And so on....

I know this may be harsh of me but nothing in the well made points that I'm reading here is making me feel more sympathetic towards Dover.
Doing the best thing for themselves? Yes. Opening a complete can of worms for the rest of us? Also yes. Unless the NL pretty much slaps them down.

The game being off tomorrow will mean my evening is as flat as a pancake, however it will be sugar coated and I will be able to feel a bit of a lemon. That is of course if anyone gives a toss!

You might feel better this evening if Eastleigh BATTER Hartlepool and Maidenhead PAN Stockport, so keeping Sutton 2nd in the table. 🥚🙂🍋

On the flip side, if those games are rained off they may try to squeeze them in before Fryday.

Regardless of when our next fixture is, here's hoping we continue to shrove all opposition aside.

Can we not ask to be reimbursed for the cost paid out such as the cost of sending season ticket holders the tickets for the stream which is not being provided. There has to be a cost /penalty of cancelling the game without a valid reason such as pitch or COVID issue. Before the league makes a decision.
Other teams will fulfil fixtures using unpaid players.

Plain annoying, watching the NL scores, tonight, while we are 'postponed'.

Plain annoying, watching the NL scores, tonight, while we are 'postponed'. Its quite relaxing watching the other scores, we could win without playing
