And here we go again.
It's simple for this week. An equal or better result than Hartlepool will see us top. With Torquay not playing (due to a Covid Aldershot) that's the only outcome that will affect our position positively. Hartlepool visit a badly misfiring Altrincham, Stockport visit mid table Solihull, Wrexham travel to whipping boys Barnet and Notts play Halifax.
On paper our match looks probably the toughest of any of the play off sides, and until Saturday Yeovil were top of the form table, but on close inspection, their last 6 away games have seen 4 defeat, all to sides around us (Chesterfield who are storming up the table, Stockport, Hartlepool and Eastleigh) whilst their recent wins have been against Dagenham, Barnet and Weymouth.
A tough game for sure, but I don't think it's going to be as tough as next Tuesday at Chesterfield.

Oi ! hope you haven't jinxed our run by starting the match thread ! lol Yes not sure what to make of Yeovil at the moment but they are certainly on a better run of form than when we last played them. Never going to win all our matches and we are bound to have a sticky patch sooner or later . Now we are classed as title favourites every team wants the chance to beat us and will raise their game. Lets hope we sneak 3 points to keep us in the running.

Ha ha I hope not - If we don't get a result on Tues, I'll wait for you to start the thread One could argue that we've already had our sticky patch back in November/December (Wrexham away, Wealdstone away, unconvincing performances v Halifax, Woking). Needless to say we could have another, but of course it's going to be the side that keeps this in check as much as possible that will win the title. Seeing how grounded and down to earth Matt is (and actually that was totally reflected with Eastmonds interview on Saturday) I'm feeling confident that we can turn things around if we need to.

We had the chance to go top on Saturday but, perhaps haunted by the memory of that 4-0 drubbing at the Racecourse Ground, the players in the end were content just to avoid defeat, knowing they'd have another bite of the cherry against Yeovil.
The Glovers have improved markedly since we won in Somerset early in the season, but the stats suggests they're no stronger than Eastleigh, Boreham Wood and Bromley, all of whom we've beaten at GGL this year. If we're at our best tomorrow then we should harvest the three points to take us top, but Yeovil are certainly not a side to be under-estimated. Matt will I'm sure have done his homework on them.

I am not really worried about any opposition in this league, as we have the best team. Its a Tuesday night match and we can go top, a side that isn't going to win the league will bottle it, and one that is will grasp the opportunity by both 'balls' (sorry that is not PC). If Dos's teams had a frailty is was in matches like this when the pressure was on and we are expected to win, we often grabbed defat out of the jaws of victory.
If we turn up tomorrow and show some 'Matt Gray' metal we will win well and go top, and I fully expect that to happen.

Fact is when you keep putting yourself in a position to appear in higher profile games you’ll lose the odd one too! In terms of the game you also seem to think if we turn up that’s that. Fails to appreciate most games are very tight and the opposition also have a say in matters. Did you notice Wrexham just took 4 points off us? I hope we win and we’re on a good run but there’s no guarantees in football. We have no idea at this stage whether we are the best team or not. That is only decided sometime in May.

I agree if any team doesn't play their best in this league they can and will lose to anyone. But the best sides and teams that win titles find ways to win (more often than not). I have not seen any better side than ours.

I do get what OS is saying, but I think this is the difference between Matt and Dos. Dos was more of an "emotional" manager, and he was really good at getting sides motivated for big games, and we all have experience of that. But then he also struggled at times to get teams motivated against who we could consider "smaller" opponents. The number of times we lost at home to sides that were bottom of the league - Braintree, Torquay, Truro (this last one for example where Truro turned up late, couldn't do a proper warm up and only could name 1 sub and we still lost!). And in general our record against sides like Maidenhead under Dos wasn't fantastic either. And of course I don't need to mention his play off record. But saying that, that shouldn't undermine his achievements whatsoever and how we've come along and competed against sides we really shouldn't have and pulled off some amazing results like away at Lincoln for example. And of course the legacy that he left Matt to build on on the pitch like Harry and Craig E, without which we wouldn't be where we are. But it was more of an emotional rollercoaster whilst Matt feels like a steady hand - those highs will be understated as will the lows. I think what OS is implying is that there is more mental strength in this squad. I think that's more a reflection of the squad than any particular manager, but I think Matt has recruited in a different way which has helped that.

I think essentially Matt has just got a better side together! Obviously there is the tactical element etc as well and I’m not taking away from that, it’s just very hard to judge! The most important part of a manager’s role IMO is recruiting - the right player and the right attitude, the right fit for the planned way of playing. Matt has done well and picked up young gems - Ajiboye, Goodliffe, getting John back, Randall, Olaofe on loan etc. Our side has 11 rock solid, good players and most were recruited by Matt. It promises to be a tough summer in terms of retention!!

Not only are they very talented players, but they are team players with the right mental attitude. Matt would never sign a Billy Dunn or a Michael Boateng, regardless of how skilled they were because he understands the mental balance of the squad is just as important as the quality of their ability.
