Here we go again
A few weeks ago we could say that this should have been the easiest points of the season. Obviously their form has improved (but to be honest with the form they had before there really was only one direction it could go in) whilst we've only one once in 6. That was of course at Altrincham where Barnet won on Saturday, coming back from 2 down to win 3-2. They've also beaten Aldershot (who we have on Saturday and Torquay play when we play Barnet). They've also drawn 0-0 with Maidenhead and Boreham Wood, so this is the first time in their little run that they've come up against a genuine play off contender.
We need to up our game from Saturday where we seemed to be lacking ideas. I'm of the opinion that if we can't beat the team who are bottom at home then we don't deserve to be champions. More importantly, if we don't match or beat Torquays result tomorrow night, then for the first time in a long time, we won't be in control of our own destiny.
As mentioned Torquay play Aldershot, but also Stockport travel to Kings Lynn, where you'd expect them to get 3 points. The same applies for Halifax who host Woking. Bromley continue their tough run as they play Chesterfield.
We need to get back on the wagon. Win tomorrow and we could go top (depending on Torquay). If we lose we could be only 1 point in front of 4th. We've used up our get out jail free cards.

For me it’s a must win against a team that have nothing to play for but are playing better. Hopefully play better than we played on Saturday and start on the front foot with tempo and drive, so come on u’s we can win this⚽️

The fact that Altrincham scored twice against Barnet in the first twenty minutes may be telling. Two of the goals that Barnet subsequently got back followed the sort of defensive blunders that I wouldn't expect our rearguard to commit. According to the NLP report, both sides wasted other opportunities to score.

It’s a game in which they have nothing to lose and they’ll come with confidence. At the end of the day though we need to find a way to win to stay in the shake up. We have to put a couple of results together now or we will be play off bound (something we’d have taken at the season outset for sure but which would ultimately represent a bit of a disappointment after the position we got in - though at least we might get to watch a game or 2 more in the ground!). The pressure is on us so we have to deal with it, a fast start and early goal would be ideal.

Yes, we have to do this in one hit I think. At the moment the play-offs would be a disaster for us. However I know the players will give everything.

This is a match I would rather play in (if I was any good) than watch because after supporting the U'S since I was a kid and dreaming of this opportunity. There is no way in this world a team who have nothing to play for are getting anything from us tomorrow night. I expect us to go at them and go at them hard!

I don't understand this "team with nothing to play for" nonsense. Barnet were near the bottom of the table and have got a new manager. I would be very surprised if their players aren't trying to show him they are good enough to deserve a new contract.

Whether Barnet have something to play for or nothing to play for it doesn't matter. We need to beat the team effectively bottom of the League tonight . NO EXCUSES !

I would be very surprised if their players aren't trying to show him they are good enough to deserve a new contract. They have one very big motivation, which is to not finish bottom. Unimaginable a few weeks back, but they've 'only' got 7 points to make up on King's Lynn with a game in hand. No player, whether Sunday league klegger or top level pro, wants to win the wooden spoon. That being said, I think it will be a return to winning ways at GGL - and it needs to be. While a Torquay win against Aldershot isn't guaranteed, I can't see Stockport failing to turn over King's Lynn.

Who the hell do you think you are? A supporter who expects us to beat the bottom team in the league otherwise do we throw away all the hard work that's gone before. You can make excuses as much as you like. There is no need to have a go at me because you got out of the wrong side of the bed.

Do any of tonight's crucial attendees need an assistant/tea maker etc ? Perhaps you might need a third official to pull a ticket out of a drum ? If so please get in touch ,any absolutely vital positions considered.

Says the man who tried to wheedle his way into the ground during our home game aganst Torquay, in flagrant breach of the current lockdown restrictions. We're all champing at the bit to attend matches again, but most of us have chosen to show the club a modicum of respect and not attempt to re-enter until we are expressly permitted to do so.
