You mean I should refer to them as U23 teams? No problem. It's still essentially a Premier League second team whatever name it goes under. No it's not a question of U23's or B's. Its you can't have a football pyramid with these teams in. According to Pep, who is a very powerful man, working for very rich men, one could. Those who have the means, and want something sufficiently, tend to get what they want.

I would far prefer us to play Hartlepool in L2 than, say, Newcastle B Team. But, I don't think the current structure can endure the financial tipping points in the long term. Come to think of it, there are probably a fair number of L1 and L2 fans, less old school (in the best sense of the word) than ourselves, who would be thrilled to see their teams competing against Premier League B teams in the League. You wouldn't see us playing Newcastle B Team and those other L2 fans wouldn't see their teams playing them either. Because if you added an extra 20 teams to the EFL structure then we'd have to be booted out to make room for them. Unless they introduced an extra division, which I can't really imagine happening. And that of course means 20 clubs would get to have two teams in the league, and 20 other clubs wouldn't get to have one at all any more. I know the whole idea isn't about fairness, and if enough money is involved then fairness stops being considered. But it would be so grossly unfair on the latter 20 clubs that it just doesn't make sense. I'm sure there would be a few legal battles initiated by clubs who'd been part of the EFL since time immemorial and were being "relegated" despite performing better than 16 or 17 other clubs in the same division and sticking to all the rules of EFL membership.

I'm sure there would be a few legal battles initiated by clubs who'd been part of the EFL since time immemorial and were being "relegated" despite performing better than 16 or 17 other clubs in the same division and sticking to all the rules of EFL membership. I don't think it would be a case of 20 teams in, in one go. It'll be more like 4 or 5 in one batch and then gradually extended from there. A way will be found to make the process seem somewhat 'organic' or natural (and beneficial, will be the selling point) to the developement of football in this country. Alongside financial incentives. And I'd agree that legal battles will be a given. But, even if 20 PL teams were introduced that would still leave 28 teams in the existing L1 and L2 set-up in situ. With the prospect of playing 'big teams'. That will be a temptation to many, who fancy their chances of hanging in there, to go with the flow. Our own experience has shown us how close to being a 'L3' the Conference is so, if it sweetens the pill, that may also be on the cards. I think it's an eror to assume that the EFL structure simply can't be warped to accommodate this. It's not so very long ago that one would not be able to guess, with any accuracy, who the Top 4 or 5 would be at the top of the pyramid, each season. Not so very hard now. But, I shall shut up about this, now. I risk being a bore. Very much missing Andy K shooting me down in flames about this, btw. I trust he's well?

Good to know! (Lucky for me... ) I am indeed on holiday! My view on the matter hasn't changed even after one PL manager voiced his opinion on it. Nothing else to add
