An excellent result yesterday against a team that I would still expect to finish top half this season. Although we are sitting in mid-table with a game in hand on many, I think that talk of the play offs might be slightly premature - at this time at least. There are some good sides in this league and on paper we have quite a difficult run over the next month or so. That said, I think that we not only have a good team but we have a good squad as well. As Matt said in his post-match interview, Harry can't get back in the 1st Xi at the moment, such is Smith's form. I think that Jon Barden might have a similar struggle to replace Kizzi when he is fit again. I think that it's important that we get that first away win sooner rather than later - and in truth, we probably could have won at Scunthorpe - at least. We've had some difficulties seeing out the latter parts of some games - but I think that this is understandable considering the high intensity game we try to play, the fact that some players probably aren't at quite the level of fitness that they might like following covid outbreaks and the fact that some of our opposition has thrown the kitchen sink at us in the latter stages of games to try and rescue something from the game. England are currently ranked the number 3 team in the world, but they recently struggled in the last 10 minutes against Poland. Great to see Tanto back yesterday - but let's not forget that if he plays as well as we expect, Millwall will probably want him back sooner rather than later. However, let's also not forget what an excellent player Will Randall has been for us - and he is waiting in the wings for his chance. We also have other players that bigger clubs may well want to take off our hands when the next transfer window opens - David in particular. For now, we should just enjoy the ride and be grateful that we are not involved in the 'National League battle' this season - and hopefully won't ever be again. At the start of the season I would have taken a 22nd place finish this season without hesitation. Although I would still take that right now, I think that we have all the elements at the club to potentially do quite a bit better than that. Fingers crossed.

I wouldn't rule out the play offs after seeing the match yesterday. Still not as clinical as i would expect but we are now finding our feet and the level of confidence gets better every match. Carlisle were the best team i've seen this season and that includes Cardiff. They came to GGL and gave it a good go. I'm not sure who the top teams in this division are. Forest Green didn't strike me as anything special and they lead the division. Anyway one game at a time .Let's see if we can come away from Northampton with a win.
Billy. Referring back to 1964. That was 57 years ago. Tribalism has taken over since then sadly. I thought the guy would have got a red for the first tackle but in the Football league cards don't get issued like confetti and especially this season refs are more lenient.

Perhaps not quite at our best first half and we did well to go in 2-0 up but tightened up 2nd half. Important saves by Dean again. And in the end their keeper kept it respectable (2 sensational saves). That and a final whistle that saved a near certain fifth. Doesn’t matter but odd only 4 minutes of injury time given at least 5 for the one injury break! Based on that we’ll do very well to hang on to Ajiboye, outstanding today and a deserved goal. GARETHL - hope all’s well. Picking up on your comment D Ajiboye - and hanging onto him….he will do well to stay with us as we will be playing LG 1 football ⚽️ if not 2022/23 then 2023/24. We have to keep MATT GRAY. Paul D was our Bill Shankley (build the club) MG - is our Bob Paisley collect the silverware. 👋🎈⚽️☕️🍰

Mad you thought they were the best side we’ve played. Defensively they were a shambles. We scored 4 and it could have been double - post Ajiboye, 2 great saves, Kizzi header off line and wide 2nd half at back post, Tanto pen, Tanto clean through when whistle blown. All very clear chances. All about opinions I suppose! I think yes they had a threat and they got in down the sides a bit but objectively looking at the defensive aspects too they were lacking big time.

A league One top tier club for instance could offer a substantial 6 figure transfer fee and multiple times his wages. And we’re never going to stand in his way and nor should we.

Also some of the disgusting chanting was out of order from both sets of supporters though i was especially dismayed to hear it from our fans. I suppose it's acceptable now we are in the "big time?" Whenever this came up in the past it seems to be our problem for coming to a football match without expecting foul language at football. It’s a shame I will need to explain to my 7 year old lad next week that the words he will be hearing aren’t something that we should be and aren’t ones that should be part of his vocabulary at school!! It’s a sad state of affairs and there are a many ways to be be significantly more ‘witty’ if you want to be without resorting to this nonsense. I’d also say it’s very difficult to manage but we shouldn’t stop trying.

I always like to see games end with 11 against 11 if at all possible. The sending off was ludicrous, what did the bloke do wrong? The disgraceful baying of certain sections of the crowd including some old men to my right doesn't help either and when you see very young children wave him goodbye as he walked off it makes you wonder what on earth is going on. I agree, some very poor behaviour indeed. Unfortunately, since they removed ‘the shoebox’, all of the unpleasant oiks and sheer undesirables that used to inhabit therein have slithered off to various other points in the ground, thus increasing the likelihood of a proper supporter being surrounded by drunken men behaving like children. I was stuck next to a few at the Hartlepool game and had to move away. Their sad efforts to outdo each other in appalling behaviour remind me of playground antics. Just what they are trying to achieve escapes me!

Just what they are trying to achieve escapes me! Firstly I am unaware of any specific incidents to which you refer, either at the Carlisle or Hartlepool fixtures. Feel free to contact me directly if that is something you wish to raise. Secondly, the Club wants to promote the best of behaviours across the entirety of the matchday experience. If there is something occurring the most immediate way to get resolution is to report this to a steward, or one of the club's own "here to help" volunteers (and perhaps consider becoming one too). It is part of their job to act on such reporting. If they are unable to deal with it satisfactorily they are in radio contact with the Ground Safety Officer, and myself. At every game, before, during, and after, Directors are on hand and dealing with numerous tasks and incidents to ensure matchday is as enjoyable as possible. Thirdly the Club is looking into how we can create a "Family Enclosure", or similar, where children, and those most sensitive to concerns such as bad language can be accommodated minimizing the impact. Might I also suggest, when discussing poor behaviour, it could be considered impolite to label a section of spectators in the way you have done. Particularly when many of those individuals are some of the core volunteers that have provided much assistance to the Club over the years, and continue to do so.

I’d agree that my comment was in no way directed at the shoebox (or ex shoebox) - the chanting comes from behind the goal and I don’t think they stand there! I think it would just be nice to be a bit more creative and not so crass with our chants . . . much prefer positive ones than getting into tit for tat humourless exchanges with opposition fans.
Given the fans concerned are trying to create an atmosphere and are supporting the team it might just need a quiet word with the right couple of people leading things?

I like the idea of a family enclosure being explored. Looking more widely at football and its past were violence at grounds was not uncommon between opposing fans and on some occasions away fans were bussed in and out of grounds we have come along way if bad language at football grounds is what's concerning us. The atmosphere behind the goal is lively, sometimes emotional and I especially like the chants of Deano to encourage our goalkeeper. I also like the one that starts 'he's big, hes geeez, hes.. Its hardly wall to wall feckin at the Gander.

Personally I don't have an issue with swearing. I understand to some it is abhorrent but unfortunately it is the way our society has gone and probably too far down the road to put it in check.
The internet is rife with it. Film censors don't appear to be concerned about what once needed an 18 certificate requirement. Papers asterisk out but often use the first letter so no imagination is required.
At football I have heard all sorts yelled in earshot of stewards and even police. The c word appears the only one they are ever concerned about and not always.
Yes, you hear it at Sutton and I hold my hand up to the occasional outburst once or twice a match but nowhere near as bad as some of the grounds we have visited.
I confess to not being a fan of the chant "your support is etc". Who cares what anyone thinks of anybody else's fanbase?
But bad language has rightly or wrongly been part of football for decades. The Big Match revisited on ITV4 provides many examples.
No excuses but having frequented football for over 5 decades it has become part and parcel.
Even our politicians are heard swearing. It is a society issue and I doubt it is going to disappear anytime soon.
I do sympathise with those with young kids hearing it; having never been in such a situation I can only imagine what it must be like.
The club's hopes of a family enclosure is a good idea but that would also need covering to be a fully acceptable such area so the current options appear to be limited.

WOW What a statement Are you saying that The Shoebox was the only place where swearing takes place??!! Ridiculous Well, I wasn’t just referring to swearing - that much was clear, I feel. If you had read my posting properly, you would have seen the phrase “drunken men behaving like children”. That was what I was complaining about. There was quite a LOT of those in the old shoebox, including that dull boozy blogger who thinks he’s an entertainer. Let me get this straight. I go to GGL to watch a decent game of football, and have been doing so for more than ten years now. I see no reason why a small clique of aerosols who think they are somehow privileged should ruin that for me.
