Some of the chants wind me up too Billy, although I have to accept a lot of it is down to personal preference and can't really be policed. I've always hugely preferred chanting and singing that supports one's own team over negative stuff about other teams although I will admit to being amused by (and perhaps indulging in) the odd bit of witty good-natured teasing. Which definitely has its place, and I know that's not the sort of thing we're talking about.

'Is there a fire drill?' sung when opposition fans leave early, whilst taking the Micky, is very funny I think.

Regarding swearing. Obviously some people can go OTT. I have let slip the odd swear word in the heat of the moment and if standing near kids I do try to keep it in mind and apologize. Its when people are obnoxious and don't seem to care where It not very nice. As for the singing, I was watching with my 9 yo niece. When the crowd gave a "ooohhhhhh Your S**t Ahh!!" and "your F**king S**t" ... She looked at me with a grin. I joked with her that they were saying fudge and sheet. She knows not to use that lingo but that it's part and parcel of footie. Its up to parents to deal with it as is the case with most things. Football is a passionate and boisterous game and providing people don't take the piss then its ok in my book and even adds to the atmosphere.
As for the game, They played very well. Carlisle were a good side with a suspect defense. But we capitalized on it as you need to do in this league. Any talk of play offs is people getting carried away IMO. I think we can have some confidence that we can be in this league next season and maybe even avoid a relegation scrap. But we have a long way to go. Clubs will work us out more and the goods sides will improve more throughout the season. But we are yet to be outplayed this year which is a good sign.

Now our joint leading scorer (both overall with three and in league with two).

The Carlisle fans that I met seemed like a nice bunch. Agree with those who thought Carlilse were a decent enough team but with a suspect defence.
I must confess to being slightly puzzled about the swearing thing. I've never really thought of the Lane as a particularly sweary place. Occasionally, perhaps, but not regularly. The friend that I attend most matches with is a proper, church going, Christian. He gets annoyed about some football stuff but he's never said a word about the swearing and I can't recall ever hearing him swear himself, so it must register. I tend to stand by the GGL end / Rec side corner flag, so I assume I catch a fair cross section of what gets said. Or sworn.
Some very wise posts, here, about young children and swearing, btw.

Now our joint leading scorer (both overall with three and in league with two). As far as I can tell, there doesn’t seem to be a running total of goalscorers on the website. By my reckoning the current standing is as follows: Donovan Wilson 3 Alistair Smith 3 Richie Bennett 2 David Ajiboye 2 Ben Goodliffe 1 Coby Rowe 1 Ricky Korboa 1 Tobi Sho-Silva 1 Omar Bugiel 1 (sharing the goals, as mentioned in the article Trev brought to our attention earlier today).

Would it be worth adding the above to a ‘stats’ thread on this forum?
