So here we are again.
Our first time we've come into the FA Cup proper without needing to qualify since 1990, although the last 2 times that happened, we've fallen at the first hurdle (Torquay and Merthyr both taking us out after a replay). And our first visit to the competition proper in 3 years (where again, we were taken out at the first hurdle after a replay by Slough).
Matt Gray has still yet to win an FA Cup game as a manager, but at least this time we're not playing a team beginning with B. We've not made it past this stage since THAT season, and anyone thinking that because H&Y are 3 divisions below us it's going to be straightforward could be on a hiding to nothing. They've still not lost in any competition this season, and we're missing key players, plus we're playing away from home.
We need to just go there and get a result. A scrappy 1-0 will be fine, but I'm under no illusions how tricky this could be. Let's really get behind the team as much as we can.
Of course if it's a replay, it will more than likely take place on Tues 16th Nov, when of course we don't have a fixture, but to be honest we could do without an extra game (and potentially extra time and penalties) with the current fitness of our squad.

Very cautious there Andy. We should win according to the bookies but to mitigate any loss anyone backing Hayes & Yeading can currently get 8/1 . That might be enough to drown ones sorrows. Let's hope we don't have a too uncomfortable afternoon and we are in the draw for the second round.
£22629 to the winners on Saturday.

Quite rightly cautious. Away at a side unbeaten with a decent team. We know as well as anybody the upsets that can happen in the FA Cup. We’ll need to play to a good level and defend well, as we normally do. And that still doesn’t guarantee anything because there is another side involved!! Would be great to get through a couple of rounds.

Remember there have been a few notable giant killings in the FA Cup.

It feels weirdly uncomfortable to be on the "big EFL team" side of an FA Cup fixture that could potentially end with one of those giantkilling stories. Feels like there's a lot more pressure on us from this side.

Looking forward to tomorrow but then I always do when it’s the Cup! A real banana skin for us with H&Y going well this season being 19 unbeaten in league and cup.
It’s a first visit to their ground for me and I didn’t manage to go there when Yeading played on the site either - just hope we can produce a good performance and get through.
Injury-wise I hope a game-free midweek can help the squad - hopefully Bards, John and Easty are in the squad tomorrow (fingers crossed)
Come on U’s!!

You can get 8/1 on H&Y tomorrow and 14/1 on Dos to turnover Charlton.
OK I am not going to bet against us but someone will get done tomorrow, and I think 14/1 for H&W looks a good bet.

Currently just a single lane on the clockwise M25 around Leatherhead if that's helpful information to anyone.

Love the Cup, love a Cupset, hope we're not involved in one today! Going to hold out for the highlights until tomorrow evening to build up a bit of suspense.
Did we sell out our allocation?

Sam Allison is reffing. Anything can happen, but rarely in U's favour.

Really hope to see Eastmond back soon.

Not a game that will live long in the memory, the experience hardly enhanced by the desolate location. H&Y clearly spent a lot of money on their impressive main stand, not a lot on the rest of the new stadium.
For most of the game the two sides cancelled each other out, the match opening up gradually in the second half. Will Randall's goal, arrowed into the far corner, came shortly after Dean Bouzanis had made two difficult saves. They had a couple of opportunities late on but put the ball just wide. Former U's Moses Emmanuel and sub Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick didn't have quite the required composure in front of goal.
It's the result that counts, not the manner in which it's achieved, and we are through to the second round.

As highlighted on another thread we are completely in the dark about current fitness of players. Who is close to a return as this is not evident?
Is Tanto carrying a knock? Kenny Davis on the bench but presumably still not fit. Graig and Louis have been out for some time now despite assurances they were close to a return. I don’t expect Davis, Eastmond, John or Barden to figure Tuesday.
