There's a 6-0 away win that probably deserves a mention for 25 January, at Hendon exactly thirty years ago. I haven't got the exact details to hand but I think Kurt Davidson might have scored his first goal for us in that one.

My diary entry for 25 January 1992 tells me that our scorers were Davidson(2), Golley(2), Feltham and Murray.

Actually I think Mark might have been with Welling by then? I'm pretty sure it was Nigel.

It's funny to think now that until May 2021, the Conference League Cup was the highest honour we'd ever won (back in 1991 v Barrow) And then were relegated.

Despite attending almost every first team match since the end of the 1995-96 season, I didn't attend a game on 26 January until 2008, when we lost 0-1 at home to Newport in the conference south! I suspect the weather may be to blame for the lack of relatively recent games on this date.
The only other one I think we've played on this day since then was last year, a 0-0 draw at Torquay which of course I did not attend as it was behind closed doors.
I wonder when we last scored a goal on 26 January?!

You're right - thank you, I did think I might have made a mistake with that one.
27 January seems to have a lot more going on anyway
On this day in 1998 we drew an Isthmian League cup match 2-2 at Romford - you could probably have guessed the scorers if you were around in that period: Joff Vansittart and Matt Hanlan.
Another cup game took place on 27 January 2004 when we were 2-0 winners in the SSC at home to Carshalton Athletic with Glenn Boosey and Jon Nurse scoring for us.
A defeat on 27 January 2007, 1-2 at home to Welling United in the Conference South with John Scarborough scoring.
We lost at home again on 27 January 2009, 2-3 to Horsham in the Isthmian League Cup. Both our goals came from Billy Dunn.
The following year, in a rare Wednesday SSC game, we were 2-0 winners at Guildford City on this day. Sam Gargan and Jerson Dos Santos scored those.
A Conference South game on 27 January 2015 saw us win 2-1 at Hemel Hempstead with a brace from Dan Fitchett.
As a bonus our match at Barrow on 27 January 2018 was I think the one that got called off when we were all nearly there?!

The big one today is our famous 8-0 defeat at Norwich City, famous not because of the scoreline of course but because of non-league Sutton reaching the 4th Round Proper of the FA Cup
My games are less exciting. 28 January has not been a very successful date for us in general.
On 28 January 2006 we lost 2-1 at Farnborough Town in the Conference South. Steve Douglas scored our goal.
We lost 4-0 at Eastleigh on 28 January 2012 in the Conference South
On 28 January 2020 we lost a Surrey Senior Cup match 3-0 at Leatherhead
That's a lot of away defeats...!

28 Jan
I was on coach 9 out of 16. It was a dull and damp day as we made our way up to Norwich. I remember the coaches being stopped outside the city and getting a police escort to the ground.
5000+ Sutton supporters turned up to see what ended up being a heavy defeat but we still managed to hold our heads high.

29th January 2017. Sutton United 1 Leeds United 0.
A quite wonderful day, probably the biggest individual result in my nearly 3 decades following Sutton and of course our best ever run in the FA Cup.

A mixed bag since the turn of the millennium
On 29 January 2000 we drew 1-1 at home to Southport. Eddie Hutchinson scored for us.
29 January 2005 was that time we lost 0-6 at home to Grays Athletic during their unstoppable run to the first ever Conference South championship title.
We beat Aveley 2-1 at GGL on 29 January 2011, this time on our own journey to a league title, in our case the Isthmian. Our goals were scored by Sam Page and Craig Dundas.
All of those games featured a team en route to either promotion or relegation! But the most recent 29 January game we've played, as Jared has already outlined, saw one side making history in a different way.
So today will be the fifth time I have watched Sutton on this date but the first time away from home.
