Difficult to keep track with all the comings and goings - but I think Matt is still looking to bring one more in - either a winger or striker. I guess that Harry Smith and Aiden may have played together at Millwall.

Well, it looks like we have some very decent players. The question will be how quickly they can gel.
Let's not panic if the season starts off in slightly piecemeal fashion.

Updated 01/8/23 With today's loan signing we now have a squad of 27 Keepers - Jack Rose, Brad House, Matt Kerbey, Steve Arnold Defence - Jon Barden, Sam Hart, Ben Goodliffe, Louis John, Tobi Ogundega, Joe Kizzi, Rob Milson, Omar Sowunmi, Ryan Jackson Midfield - Harry Beautyman, Craig Dundas, Craig Eastmond, Josh Coley, Christian N'Guessan, Craig Clay Forwards - Tope Fadahunsi, Kylian Kouassi, Hisham Kasimu, Lee Angol, Harry Smith, Scott Kashket, Omari Patrick, Aiden O'Brien Take away the keepers, Tobi & Kouassi (presuming he is still with us) who are both under 21, and we have a 21-man squad. This will see us one below the limit. That is also including Dundas as a registered player. I still do not know what a homegrown player is, it seems to be a player who is registered with us, or even another club? which would mean pretty much every player in the league?? isn't homegrown one who's come through your own academy? You've left Taylor and Kindhe off of the list

Generally speaking, I think that the squad looks (on paper) much stronger than last season - though big ask for Josh Coley and Chris N'Guessan to try to fill the boots of David A and Ali S respectively.
A little over 2 years since we beat Hartlepool 3-0 to win the National League and the likelihood is that of the starting Xi that day, no more than a maximum of 3 players will be starting on Saturday.

Virtually all players count as home grown to us ( 3 years with an English club before 21st birthday) Young players like Jack are not included in squad size, we could register all the Academy if we wanted.

That just demonstrates that we are evolving rather than standing still and also that fact that somehow we have given Matt more tools to complete the job with.

You've left Taylor and Kindhe off of the list Well that's what I thought. But the definition is a bit confusing to me. It means someone who is simply registered with the club, but it also states, and/or with another English or Welsh club. So I am more confused as to what a non "homegrown" player is. I presume it is a loan from a foreign league? Regarding Taylor and Kindhe, I have not seen any official announcements of a full-time contract yet? they would also be under 21 so would not take up a place in the 22.

In very basic terms non-home grown means a foreigner ! It's slightly more complex than that in the sense that an overseas player can qualify as home grown if they spent three years in development with an English club before the age of 21. Without delving too deeply into definitions, I think the other parts of Britain count as non-homegrown for this purpose but don't quote me. Nothing at all to do with loans.

Without delving too deeply into definitions, I think the other parts of Britain count as non-homegrown for this purpose but don't quote me. Nothing at all to do with loans. FAW counts as Home Grown, but SFA doesn't. In addition there is also a Club Developed player, which is something else, essentially someone at your own club that you brought through as a First Team Player. There are rules on a minimum number of Home Grown players each game in your team (8 on the team sheet) which not only ensures a level playing field but also gives a protection to all the (English) national teams at every level such that there are development opportunities for English qualified players playing in the PL and EFL, against top players, and these don't get replaced with too many overseas players such that they only play reserve or non-league football. Its the other way round with Club Developed players. It is in effect the same thing but you don't get penalised for not having a Club Developed player, but you get the benefit of an additional space to the size of your sub bench for a Club Developed player, you wouldn't have without one. There are only 6 (not 7) subs in EFL games, but by including a Club developed player, either in the starting 11, or on the bench, this in effect becomes 7.

Do we know what the situation is with Kylian: has he returned from Blackpool? I was very impressed with him last season and thought he would be great for us this season but I fear that his head has been turned by greedy people and he is probably not one of Matt's favourite people.
