No fight in the first half but we did display some in the second. We can't keep playing Harry on the left wing and we can't keep lumping balls up to Smith. Kizzi is not a left back so why didn't John play there ? Deano's kicking is dreadful so Rose should get a chance.Gape seemed to forget who he was passing to after such a good debut last week. Subs were made too late and Patrick needs much more game time to balance up the wings. I hope i don't hear from Matt that a draw felt like a win because it certainly didn't at home to a poor Tranmere team.

Harry S got booked today and misses next weeks game at Grimsby. While it’s a massive loss, it’s might be a small blessing, forcing us to play a slightly different system and style of play, which might pay dividends against a team who also need 3 points.

That's just not good enough.
It's creditable that the team ran their socks off in the second half. Coley was almost staggering by the time he was subbed. But, still just not good enough. We made a weak Tranmere team look half decent. The fact that they were so clearly disappointed in not getting a win speaks for itself.
I rarely, if ever, single individual players out for criticism. But could we please drop Dean? I know the things that he's supposed to be good at. And I am not seeing any of those things at the moment. Quite the opposite.

Presumably Harry was wide on the left wing because the defence is less exposed with him in the team, especially today with no recognised left back available. Actually I thought Harry had a pretty good game today including as an attacking threat. John isn't a left back either and maybe Kizzi was preferred there as he's more mobile? I agree with you about Gape (I thought he was abysmal TBH) and you and others about the goalkeeping situation. Finally, it would be great if Patrick, perhaps the most naturally gifted member of the squad, could be accommodated somehow without threatening what has appeared to be the team's Achilles Heel for much of the season....but I'm no football tactician...so over to you Matt.

One fan missed the second half as he was ejected after I’m guessing some spicy language aimed at the kids who were walking round the pitch at half time.
Anyone know who they were as I couldn’t hear the tannoy #quellsuprise

sufc1898, raises a good point. Might see Angol coming in for Smith and see the same sort of style of play. (Even though Angol is not a target man ) Yes it would be nice to see another style of play.

This is a whole other issue. In Kizzi we have an important player who is out of form and somewhat lacking in confidence. So, we play him out of position. Surprise, surprise, he doesn't do that well. Agree about Patrick. The whole of what you said. As we have him, surely we should use him? It's not like we're over stocked with cutting edge.

I don’t think we deserved to lose the game. I actually think overall whilst they looked the better side for an hour we still had more of the better chances. We were actually out battled a bit first half and 2nd to too much. Our centre halves didn’t dominate at all from the first ball forward and that gave them a foothold.
Not really sure we need to single out Gape on his 2nd appearance in goodness knows how long. One bit of defensive play possibly saved a goal and was a big moment.
We can play better. Conditions weren’t great. Tom Davies for them was excellent and handled Smith which takes away our focal point. We kept going, we will play better. Got to get our heads down and graft. No side at this level is without quality, wins have to be earned. 4 unbeaten, we need to keep building. We’ll lose some but hopefully stick together and keep the spirit going we’ll win enough. Important not to lose today.

I find some of this thread quite bizarre.
Who else could Matt play at left back?
Louis John is a centre back who probably last played full back for any length at time when he was at Cambridge.
Joe has predominantly played at full back while at Sutton, so who would you play there out of the two? Hardly rocket science.
Joe wasn't even meant to start today having missed much of training this week but Rob Milsom was ill overnight and with Sam Hart out the options were limited. Joe or Jacko actually.
Equally bizarre are those questioning why Omari isn't on the left. I would have thought that was plainly obvious. Great going forward but not so great when we are defending. Personally, I would have him coming on up front, certainly at least once to see how that works but as he made clear when he left Carlisle and indeed in an interview in the FLP he doesn't like playing up there.
Gotta feel for Harry Smith. Some bizarre decisions against him today once more. No wonder he loses it.
There 25 was a real problem for Sutton in the first half but hardly saw him in the second.
Thought we deserved a point today. No more, no less.

I think the young guy chucked out was abusive towards one, maybe more, of the American students who were guests of the club today.
Not a good look for the club, so if true, rightly removed.

6 pointers are often like this, I don't think we deserved to lose the game as they were no better. 4 games unbeaten, still need to be better. I think it was more a poor game than a poor performance, they came to be dogid and well organised and to be fair they did that. They got a bit lucky with their goal and if anyone deserved to pinch it it was us. We seem to play a bit better with teams who stretch themselves a bit. And as per usual an awful Ref, they are really ruining this league, looks like they really have it in for Smith.

The pitch looked like in places it was feeling the strain of all the matches being played on it. Hopefully some work can be done on it before the next match on it which is Wednesday evening.

As stated by others that was a lack luster performance, its not effort, its quality, and both sides showed why they are where they are in the table. The point, and FGR draw means we are as we were, and we stay in touch of safty.
As a team we don't have any magic men who can carve something out of nothing, so its got to be a team effort, and tbh as it we are just not quite good enough. We do have Eastie to come back which will really help the midfield, but we are going to need to strenghen in January, because others around us will.
