So we're in the 3rd round for the first time since 2016/7, only the 2nd time this century and only the 6th time in our history. Twice we've fallen at round 3 (Middlesbrough in 87/88 and Notts County in 93/94), and passed through to further rounds in the other 3 (beating Barnet in 69/70, Coventry in 88/89 and AFC Wimbledon in 16/17). In 4 of thos 5 we were playing at the 5th tier, only in 93/94 were we in the 6th tier.
So onto the upcoming draw. Taking aside the ties that still need to be played or replayed, we've go the following
20 PL sides 24 Championship sides 11 League One sides (with a minimum of 6 being through)
9 League Two sides (only 3 currently through including us)
7 Non league sides (although only 1 side, Maidstone United, are certain to play in the 3rd round)
Interestingly enough, in the previous round there were 14 L2 sides in the draw, and none were drawn together.
With 64 clubs left in the competition when it plays the 3rd round, we've got a 37% chance of getting a Championship side, a 31% of a PL side, and taking the maximum numbers from other levels, 17% chance of a L1 opponent, 12% L2, and 11% Non league. These drop (taking the minimum numbers for each) to 9%, 3% and 1% respectively.
If home and away matters is of interest, then halve these numbers i.e. we've got around a 18% chance of getting a Champ team at home and 18% chance away.
Let's see what the ball gods have got in store for us around 1pm tomorrow.

The one I absolutely do NOT want is Huddersfield Town home or away. My ideal draw would be Everton v SU as Goodison is the only “traditional” ground I’ve not been to and it will soon(ish) be history. I’d guess SU would be happy with that.

We were the width of Middlesbrough’s crossbar from visiting Goodson in the 4th round in 88.

I'm sure the club needs a big pay day. £105000 to the winners of round 3. A home draw against lesser opposition could mean we get through and a good chance of a TV game. Otherwise away to a Premiership team with the chance of a decent share of the gate receipts. There are several away grounds i would like to visit.

I doubt very much that a home game against a Yeovil or a Maidstone would be picked for a 3rd round FA TV game. Slightly more chance away but in reality we're only going to get a TV game if we're drawn against a PL side, especially at home.

About as bad as it could have been in my book. Anyone have anything positive to say to make me feel happier? Devon in January? Cream scones, scrumpy? An absolute thrashing?

We've had good draws until now but very disappointing.
Plymouth will see this as a pass to the next round. Their league position means they are likely to play their strongest team and I would suggest no media interest or interest even from Plymouth Supporters unless a significant reduction in admission prices.

Disappointing yes. On the plus side, they are an average Championship side, only 2 points off 4th bottom. Take a draw for a TV replay?

Yeah not a great fixture for us but a bit of an away day and new club to play against. We’ll have to try and make the most of it.

Well we beat Leeds, granted that that was at home but what’s 220 miles when with our squad now and the way they’ve been playing recently a draw at least will be the minimum result 👍

Nice try. I’d certainly take a draw as a minimum result
