Just getting so fed up with the ‘poor little Sutton, we’ve got a lower budget than everyone else. The referees are against us and our players our injured. If we just had a left back, a bit of luck then we will turn the corner at the next winnable game’ argument. We got into this league on merit. The board have been supportive with massive investment in the infrastructure and the players just need to grow a pair and perform like professionals. The Manager needs to do the same or make way for someone who can get the best out of this lot and maybe attract some talent through his contacts in the window. I must admit, that is wearing a little thin for me, too. I do understand that we as a club have some limitations. But they are not insurmountable. They certainly weren't in our previous L2 seasons. It would seem as though some fans now incline towards regarding our very presence in L2 as almost an anomaly. One question; if you are inclined to fatalism regarding the rest of the season (and I'm reading a fair bit of that) are you prepared to witness a repeat of the first half of the season in the second half? Because, as things stand, I think that's what we'll get.

I will totally ignore any poster who ever claims "Refs are against us". Injuries I have a little more sympathy with, but in all honesty not a huge amount, but it can be a factor. It certainly was in the opposite direction when we won the league. Luck will always level itself out over the course of a season. Smallest budget I will though. Stockport bought Tanto for £200k. There was no way we could afford that amount on transfer fees alone, never mind an associated wage. I would expect that the players we had last year playing at this level will be earning more than they did with us. We just have to cut our cloth accordingly.
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the responsibility of yesterday falls squarly on the manager. That, to me, is the only answer to why virtually all the players were all over the shop yesterday. One can point out Deano, but it wasn't his fault we had 1 shot on goal in the entire 90 mins. Perhaps if he had played better we would have lost 5-0 rather than 8-0. Hardly a respectable turnaround is it?
I'm just hoping this is the real kick up the arse the entire team and management team need. If the majority of performances are in the same vein over Xmas, then yes, I would say that Matt, as top of the tree in collective responsibility, should do the right thing. But we've been here before, and last time we were here things improved. Let's hope that improvement is much more significant. I'm hoping Mansfield totally take us for granted.

As for those who believe we are not a small club with a small budget could they please explain why we are led to believe that there is no money to do anything other than put up with watching our great club slide out of League Two ? We have been told many times that there is no appetite from the Board to replace Matt because we have insufficient funds to do so and bring in a new face and fund him in the transfer market . If this is not the case the Board must be happy with what they are watching ……I’m glad that some poor sods are !

Thinking about this from a different persepctive, I'm not at all sure that it's viable for the board to allow the present situation to continue for all that much longer, let alone the for the rest of the season. If, that is, it wants to maintain its own credibiltiy. The performances and the stats do not lie.
If I were them, that would certainly be on my mind. Doing nothing but hoping for better is not necessarily an alternative that they have.

If this is not the case the Board must be happy with what they are watching ……I’m glad that some poor sods are ! That doesn't necessarily follow. The Board might be very unhappy (I'd be very surprised if they weren't !) and have sufficient funds for a replacement but nevertheless decide to stick with Matt because, for example, they believe it's too late in the season to effect change, Matt's previous track record and his familiarity with the playing and backroom staff. It should also be acknowledged that Board members are in position to make a more informed decision than any of us because of their knowledge of the club's financial position and wider off-field issues. However, that doesn't mean I'd necessarily agree with them even if I were armed with such information. Indeed, it wouldn't be at all surprising if individual Board members hold opposing views just as those on here do: such disagreements are healthy IMO.

Good points made . Wouldn’t it be great to have a camera present during their next board meeting ….. now that would make for great tv !

Its not all down to Matt, this 8-0 defeat is a culmination of decisions made throughout the club since promotion. You make a statement but don't back it up. What makes you an expert on running a football club? I have seen little evidence of you having any on here from you over the years. I don't recall you making this comment when we got to Wembley and just missed out on the play offs in our first EFL season, i.e. since promotion. I don't think we will ever see eye to eye tbh, but here goes: As you say I am not an expert at running a football club, the fear with me in charge is that I would take that successful side of 2 seasons ago, and turn it into one that was foot of the table, 6pts adrift of safety, and just lost its last league match by 8 goals to nothing. I suggest that those on this forum would be asking pretty serious questions of me, and rightly so. I don't think it is unreasonable to raise those same questions to those that are currently in charge. We are all where we are in life based on the previous decisions we have made, and that is no different for this club. We know we are only a small club with a small fanbase, and every penny matters. The club as a NL entity was always well run, with a band of dedicated, mostly amateur volunteers turning water into wine, and turning one penny into two. So successful was that model it took the club into the football league. I fully understand the need for structural change within the club upon promotion, and understand why many of the stalwarts took a step back. This now brings me back to my first paragraph and where we are today, whilst Matt stands in front of the camera and picks the team a lot goes on above him. Therefore I don't think it unreasonable to ask the board to make a statement on our position and what their plans are going forward. I would like the club to file a full set of accounts, showing just how much is coming in and going out, and to whom, and what level of debt the club is holding and what that means if we were to be relegated.

Congratulations for using lots of words and saying nothing except "we're not running the club like we did in the Ryman league". You've made a statement. Both I and Mark ask for examples. You then don't give any. And we all know why.

In an earlier post someone was asking that the Board should put out a statement of the clubs position and for a statement of accounts. I have been asking the same question to the Board since last season, with no response to both questions.

Much has been said about the size of our budget in this and other threads. Does anyone know what it actually is compared with other clubs? By others, I have in mind mid/lower L2 clubs rather than the likes of Stockport and Wrexham. Research has demonstrated an extremely strong relationship between wage expenditure and league position: league position cf wage expenditure. However, this is based only on the top two tiers of English football from a few years ago. It's possible that the correlation is somewhat lower at L2 level. The fact that some "big" clubs have been relegated to the NL and how we fared in our first two EFL seasons provide some support for such an assertion. I think it's a reasonable assumption that we are one of the lowest spenders but, importantly, wonder whether we don't necessarily have a significantly lower budget than several of our rivals.

Ok, I don't expect to be seeing a full statement of accounts from the club. But some sort of statement regarding our position might help. The reason I say this is that (since the Salford match) I've largely been among those calling for some sort of change based on the assumption that we 'cannot afford relegation'. Or that's a substantial part of it. Others argue to the contrary, substantially based on the assumption that we 'cannot afford to make big changes'.
I think the latter position does probably hold more water. But as far as I can see it is still largely an assumption. Unless we get some input from the club as to what is and what is not (eg, how much would we lose by going down, how much risk is there in spending to try to stay up), then in this respect we're all largely holding arguments in the dark.

Just listened to the U’S podcast and it’s not great listening I’m afraid, from what I Heard it’s time for Matt too go he has lost the dressing room plane and simple. With out a new voice we are down Saturdays result showed that. Now it’s up to the board to make the right decision and find a new voice because Saturdays result showed that the players are not putting up with it any more. (It’s only my opinion.)⚽️⚽️⚽️

If Banjo is correct, and that Matt has lost the dressing room. Then surely there are three options. 1.Matt resigns. 2.The Board sack him. 3.The team and management continues as now. As we all know this has been going on since March. OK,the management have removed players and rebuilt the squad but it is not working.
As previous posts have requested. The Board should give out a statement regarding the situation.

I sincerely hope that nobody is envisaging the dreaded vote of confidence.
If anyone wishes to see the club's accounts, a quick search of the (free) Companies House website will find them for you. The most recently filed accounts are for 2021/22; last season's need to be filed by (I believe) the end of February.

This does put the board in an awkward position and I don't expect they can totally transparent about their thinking. But I do think we need to hear something. Half the season gone and our position being what it is. Otherwise we're going to be languishing in 'bloke said' opinion territory. Which has already begun, tbh. Thanks for the tip, AA. Although I'm not sure quite how much the figures for 21/22 will help shape perspective on the situation that we're in right now.. Some help though, obviously. And, again, I don't know quite how credible it would be for the board to simply sit on their hands, at the moment.
