To me the idea that we have yet more time for fact finding as regards if we do or don't need to bring in someone new is quite incredible. Are we still going to be chewing this with 15 games left to play?
Jason has made some incremental improvements. But we are not in a situation where incremental is enough. We haven't been for quite some time.
I sincerely hope the board have a plan, now, and are not still waiting on events. And will act, very soon.

I'm not quite sure what you're expecting. 4 games in 9 days was not a time to bring in a new manager. There have been loads of applications, the board need time to go through these and whittle down to a few and then conduct interviews etc. This all takes a bit of time and is particularly difficult to do over the Christmas period. I expect things will move soon, perhaps after this weekend. Any new manager (including Jason if he's appointed) will want to shape the squad as they see fit in this transfer window (probably with loans). We probably have one spare space now with Mellor more than likely having gone back to Wycombe and more may follow when the new manager is in place.

I was referring to those who are still framing upcoming games as oppotunities for assessment. I'm very pleased to hear about the applications, that sounds like good news. One caveat; to anyone who thinks that it's difficult to get things moving over Christmas I would say 'try working in retail'.

With football any new manager has no time to get his message across as there's very little training. The players are generally recovering from the previous game before they have to go again. Sutton is a sought after job. We're well regarded and admired in the football world so it's not surprising that a lot of people are interested (this is my opinion but i did hear that there were rather a lot of applications (which i would expect)). As I say my thoughts are that the club will want to appoint someone soon so they can have the rest of the January window. Jason said in his post match interview yesterday that he was asked to do the 4 games over Christmas so you never know someone might be appointed before Saturday.

But, again, perhaps my meaning was unclear. When I referred to retail I wasn't making comparison to a new manager being in situ and getting to grips with the job. I take you point about that, entirely. I was referring to the decision making process (whole thing) being undertaken by the board.

Fair play. I do think that Matts sacking was not just about a significant change in style, but was perhaps more about cutting off a break down in manager and player communication. Which means that the sacking in it's self has allowed the air to clear and freshen the team talk up. This is why perhaps Jason is a good option IMO, no mug and knows this league, not a drastic change for the players who are already under big pressure, and we have already seen that he has applied him self differently with quite a positive effect. So while it is still risky I would understand if they went this rout and invested perhaps in a good signing. This next couple weeks are huge really. As he will now have more time training the players, so can have more influence, though if a new manager comes in they have the opportunity now to train the team for 2 weeks before our next league match, and possibly make a singing. So I agree if a new guy comes in it needs to be quick. You mean paz, he had lost the changing room. ⚽️⚽️⚽️ I think so yes.

We've not been told anything concrete about the timetable for appointing a new manager, and some on here may have had unrealistic expectations about the speed of the process. If there was any kind of succession plan in place when Matt was dismissed, we've seen no evidence of it.
This is very obviously an important appointment, and the Board will want to take the time to get it right. I imagine a shortlist of candidates is being finalised around now. I'd hazard that Jason is on that shortlist, but we know nothing about the other applicants. Interviews may take place this week. The Board will then need to meet to make a decision. Unless there's one stand-out candidate, that may involve a lot of discussion. We might hear something before the weekend, but I reckon an announcement next week is more likely.

Given the kind of season that we'd had prior to Matt's dismissal I found it hard to credit that the board would have given no thought to a possible succession. I don't think (or I certainly hope not) that it took an 8-0 defeat to make a light bulb suddenly go on.
When needs must, it is possible to make important decisions quickly. Speedy decision making and good judgement are not mutually exclusive. Although some of the observations here would seem to suggest that they are.

I'm not sure the board was unanimous in wanting to sack Matt.
Jason is doing a good job at the moment and is making us difficult to beat. I for one am not in a rush to see the board appoint anyone else. We do however need to add some more attacking options in the January window.

My understanding is that it was the new American investors that “forced” the decision on Bruce Elliott who apparently turned up at the training ground on the Monday afternoon after the Stockport game and was literally in tears at the decision they were making.

I’m guessing several managers would be interested in taking us on . The negative is that there would not be a lot of money to splash around on new players so loans will be critical . The benefits though are that any new appointment knows that they will be given lots of time to implement their ideas , tactics etc even if we go down and if they could keep us up this season that would look so good on their cv . Just my thoughts .

You only have to see the way the team has been set up these last 4 games and he is prepared to make substitutions early if things are not going right. We don't have the money for some new players. One or two at most plus Craig will be playing soon as will Kasimu.
