Given the kind of season that we'd had prior to Matt's dismissal I found it hard to credit that the board would have given no thought to a possible succession. I don't think (or I certainly hope not) that it took an 8-0 defeat to make a light bulb suddenly go on. When needs must, it is possible to make important decisions quickly. Speedy decision making and good judgement are not mutually exclusive. Although some of the observations here would seem to suggest that they are. My understanding is that it was the new American investors that “forced” the decision on Bruce Elliott who apparently turned up at the training ground on the Monday afternoon after the Stockport game and was literally in tears at the decision they were making. I can understand that Bruce didn't want him to go and is that why Adrian resigned from the board. Incredibly difficult decision but probably for the best in the long run as Matt was very inflexible with his formations and substitutions.

It's very difficult to know how much creedence to put in these 'from what I've heard/from what I understand' comments. It may well be that people just can't say, but source of information is obviously important.

With regards to who would be interested in managing the club. Many who want a chance to manage in the football league with the chance to put a notch on their CV keeping up a side who could have worse players.
Also, managers who have been laid off and took a hit like Matt did, would see us as an opertunity to spring back. Also, we are a nice club to work for and are happy to put faith and build with a manager and some might like this challenge.
All that said, this does not mean they will all do the job thats needed. We need someone who wears their heart on the sleeve.

I would expect the latest a managerial appointment will be made will be this time next week. In a perverse way, in a situation where the appointment is external, you wouldn't want their first match in charge to be our first visit to the 3rd round of the FA Cup in 7 years. Just feels counter productive as that isn't the priority challenge for the next manager of Sutton United.
Any later than the Barrow game however won't really be doing the club any favours. The club as a whole needs certainty, and as the board made the decision (regardless of whether it was unanimous or not is irrelevant, they have collective responsibility), it is up to the board again to make that call at the right time.

I am not surprised there were a lot of applicants, and I guess several will be people with relevant experience. If the successful applicant can save us from the drop he will be in very high demand this time next year as a miracle worker when another league club is staring at relegation.
I don't know how the board votes but I have been through the media statements of Mbuzzsport Llc of the United Arab Emirates and A&S Developments t/a Acv Sports Venture Llc of the United States Minor Outlying Islands. Both see themselves as having bought more than a quarter of Sutton United FC Ltd., a Football League club. That being the case - just the two companies can out-vote all the other board members if board decisions are based on the basis of 1 share 1 vote. The other basis on which decisions might be made, 1 seat 1 vote does get uncomfortable if the two big interests are opposed.
Today shareholders of SUFC Ltd received notice of the AGM on 24th January, but not yet of any business to be transacted. I hope the accounts to May 31 2023 are also to be circulated prior to this meeting, and those accounts will be of great interest.

A key part of governance is to come to a consensus marshalled by a good chairman who will allow robust debate with a view to making a decision. Luckily for us we have Bruce Elliott. And board members won't have more sway just because they own more shares. It's called collective responsibility. Hopefully they can find a candidate they all agree on, but in event that they don't, I think it's safe to say they will eventually agree even if their individual preferred candidate isn't in contention. What should be applauded is that we have board members from more diverse backgrounds than we have ever had before. Different voices can give different perspectives which may have not been considered before.

Are you saying these two companies own more than half of Sutton United's shares between them?

So that's them clear of relegation. Really. just like that. Doesn't it depend on what monies are available to them in the transfer window ? These guys are not magicians.

Yes,of course, but he/they have a good track record. Having made the decision to replace Matt, I really think time is of the essence. The other clubs around us wasted no time when deciding to make a change.

And even then if the players they bring in work well together. Football is a difficult game to predict or the bookies would all go bust.

Colchester on 3rd manager of the season. Would rather we get it right & remain inexperienced in this process personally.
