Football clubs in trouble update: Looks like Folkestone are in admin: www.NonLeagueDaily.com/news/index.php?&newsmode=FULL&nid=58774Stafford Rangers from BSN are on the brink, they have to raise this money by July 7 to avoid the worst: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_conf/8117493.stmNewcastle Blue Star from the Unibond have gone: www.nlpl.co.uk/forum/gforum.cgi?p....guest =12974202 AFCHx appear to be back in denial mode, no company RETURN filed at Companies House now a month later which will get them fined. Unclear as to who is actually in charge there or what is happening with the estimated 250k debts. But one thing for sure is that they are NOT in admin! Lewes fans are unable to get any answers from their sole remaining director about the clubs estimated 400k debts and just how they intend to operate next season. Without a instalment agreement over their 100K tax bill with HRMC they could be wound up at any moment, its also unclear how they will meet any instalment plan if they get one? The sh*t is well and truly starting to hit the preverbal fan!

Surprised you haven't mentioned Rushden & Diamonds as they are in big trouble too.
No doubt there's more to come!

Is this a record season/close-season for clubs being in financial trouble?

Is this a record season/close-season for clubs being in financial trouble? Probably, as I can't keep up, we could be the only team left by season kick off!

How the hell did things get this bad? How could so many clubs make the same mistakes? I'm just thankful Bruce and co are doing things by the book.

How the hell did things get this bad? How could so many clubs make the same mistakes? I'm just thankful Bruce and co are doing things by the book. We're seeing a whole flock of chickens coming home to roost. Too many small clubs spent beyond their means and got themselves into debt, in the expectation that success on the field would help bring in more sponsorship and commercial revenue. But with the recession hitting most parts of the economy, local businesses and benefactors just don't have the spare cash any more and are closing their cheque books, leaving the clubs high and dry. It seems that a lot of the debts consist of unpaid tax (I'd guess mostly PAYE and NICs on the players' wages), and the clubs can't expect much mercy from HM Revenue & Customs. Sutton Utd might soon start to reap the benefits of our more prudent approach!

I was just thinking over the weekend that there may be a few players of BSP/N/S standard looking for clubs in July and August. They will also know that they will not get "silly" money.

The thing is Filbert, they can still get silly money e.g. Bobbins, who from what I understand are still paying over the odds for players. There's enough teams who could potentially go bust in a couple of years time who are still chucking that sort of cash around. What amazes me is these are run by previously successful businessmen, who have possibly worked hard to make such a fortune, only to throw it into the bottomless pit of football - what happened to their business sense, I'l never get!!

Where owning a football club is concerned, a massively over-inflated ego is much more important than business sense it seems. Dipre will bankrupt that lot down the road within 5 years unless their supporters can work out that it is actually in their best interests to stand up to him

I'll stick my neck out and say that no Sutton supporter wants them to go out of business, but when someone needs their ego flattering, the greatest thing to quash that is to not give the attention they crave. I hope as well their supporters see this sooner rather than later

I hear that, unsurprisingly, Dundo is to be with the Bobbins pre-season.....
