Good luck to you mate,i'm pleased for you.As i've tried to indicate before you lads know far more about non league football than i do. I have however watched and played football since 1960 and am only voicing my honest opinions. If last season was considered a good one then my admiration for all of you who watch this football week in week out has increased considerably.

Billy.I have been watching Sutton since 1963!And played football for many years. So i feel qualified to reply to your latest post.If Sutton is your club you watch them through good times and bad even if the standard of football varies from year to year. Its what a TRUE SUPPORTER does. Living in deepest Kent i make 100 mile round trip for home games(as do many other exiles) and also made many away games last season. To be sure there were highs and lows last season but i really enjoyed it.One of the most pleasing thing was the number of new younger faces going to away games on a regular basis. They are the future of Sutton support. The away support has always been good but last season was exceptional and i am sorry if you do not wish to be part of this(home or away). We can all do our bit to cheer the team on through thick and thin.Living as a youngster 250 yds from GGL this is what i have done since i was old enough to climb over the fence! We have a wonderful club and i hope you will support them next season. All the best Wellie.

As you've come along after a few years Bill it's going to be a lot different to what you have been watching which i imagine to be MOTD, Sky etc watching Prem games.
You aren't going to get Robinho, Messi et al in the RPL!!
What you get is generally honest full time working players who love the game and though the skill and ability may not be at that standard, not that you don't see skillful players, but you get a more personal football match.
If you want world class week in week out you should stick to the sofa of a weekend matey.

I think what has changed over the years is the 'difference' between top league and our level.

I decided to give Sutton another go as i've become sick and tired of the Premier League. The great thing i will say about it is that you don't get the histrionics, cheating, feigning injury and waving of imaginary cards so prevalent at the top level. From this respect it was a breath of fresh air.I've admitted in the past to being a dinosaur,i just don't get football anymore. In almost every game at whatever level there is normally one team trying to win and the other trying to nick a 0 - 0 draw with all eleven men stuck in their own half. I'm not clever but even i can see that if both teams played 5 across the middle of the park you are not going to see many goals. I don't think the players are that much worse than in bygone days but when for example one of the 'keepers has the ball and there are 20 players on top of each other on one side of the pitch on the halfway line you could have George Best and Pele in there, what could they do with it ?

Well, England's U-21's are coping with moden footy - 2-0 up against Spain (Campbell & Milner).Walcott's pace setting up the second with a clasic run to the by line before pulling it back.

I really admire you mate, honestly.Surely you would concede though that you are watching an entirely different game now than the one we used to know and love in the sixties ? It used to be entertainment. So many games nowadays end up not only without any goals but completely devoid of goalmouth action. Remember the Wimbledon game in 1963,4 - 2,nowadays it would be 0 - 0 after extra time and penalties.

Remember the Wimbledon game in 1963,4 - 2,nowadays it would be 0 - 0 after extra time and penalties. Score lines of 4-2 or 6-3 have now all but disappeared because of better organisation across the back. Its now far more difficult to score a goal even if there is a big gap between the quality of the 2 teams as the lesser team concentrates on defending but tend to show very little going forward. You talk of 50s / 60s football but if we gave as much time on the ball to opposing teams today you would be the first on here moaning about why we lost 6-2. I still say that our finest performance was taking Boro to extra time of a replay when our defence and the lack of goals due to our superb defending. You also talk about player turnover well the game has changed there too, in the 80's players did not jump ship on the same level as today choosing to stay loyal to their clubs and was not as if other non-league sides were offering silly wages in those days. We had players rack up hundreds of appearances which is why we went on to have probably our best ever side in the late 80's. If it were today those players would of long since gone to higher paying sides and that side would never of materialised, look what happened in 2003/04 something we have not recovered from yet. We had players from the 80's offered the opportunity of full time league careers but turned them down because it was not cost effective for them to give up their day jobs as lower league money was not that good. Billy! I think you do our club who have been here for 111 years without going bust once and surviving everything the game can throw at it a disservice. PD has come in and has restored a bit of faith and belief that I (we) did not have a year ago and so what if he uses 100 players as long as he does not break the bank and gives us back the hope that we sorely missed while desperately trying to hang on to our connie sth status.

People didn't use ludicrous words like "connie" in the old days either. We didn't call each other "guys" and we could all string a sentence together without using the word "issues" that's progress i suppose.
And,by the way,i would rather see Sutton lose 6 -2 than draw 0 - 0.
