This was certainly NOT the worst Sutton result in history. We live to fight again on Monday! I'm sure most supporters can recall worse results.
When we took the lead in the first minute, I thought this could be the game that really gets our season going. Sadly it was not to be! Their keeper made a couple of saves with his legs before half-time, then we faded.
I have to say that Craig Watkins had a nightmare of a match - everything he touched near goal seemed to go wrong! Warrren wasn't a great deal better, but even so he seemed our most likely source of a second goal, and I was surprised when he and Greene (who'd got the opener) were substituted, with Craig Tanner (who'd also played well) going off a bit later. Their replacements - Graham, Buari and Taiwo - didn't exactly amount to a potent attacking force.
Woodford offerred little up front, but at 1-0 there was always the possibility that they'd get back into the game, and so it proved with the penalty.
The next two matches are a real test of Ian Hazel's managerial acumen.

I think we have a talented squad, but confidence and tactics come from the management as does bringing the right players to a club when needed. I am afraid that on this aspect I cannot see where IH is taking us as its no good just doing this week in week out in the hope it will change, that is what management is for. Who is our striker? you can't call wide players your strikers if you do you won't score goals, there is no one central and when our players get in front of the sticks they lack composure. Lack of confidence really shows on one on ones with the keeper as it takes composure to lift the ball over into the net. Maybe they cannot play anymore but I would love to see Eddie or Fearo back at the club helping the lads it could really help em?
The buck really has to stop with IH and SM!!

Today was just the latest embarrassment for SUFC in the 21st Century.
How many more can this club take? How long can the same old excuses last for? We need Change and we need it quickly.
293 there today. Now that is definitely the worst I've ever seen. I'm fed up of depressing Saturday evenings.

what a shambles, only one up and off comes the only threat to thier goal.okay Warren did'nt play that well and he does overdo things alway's wanting to beat the last man and losing the ball a lot but he can still make a goal out of nothing.Wood ford passed the ball out of defence, somthing we don't do in any game ,But we should DO.our passes alway's seem to go astray, even after they look up and see the player to pass too.and we don't stop their wice players putting crosses in which often outdo us and laed to goals.Hazel needs to turn things around soon or go.

We were saying similar things earlier about Warren. He does have some great ball skills but yes, he overdoes it sometimes when something a lot more basic would suffice. If he kept it simple then he'd get to keep the ball a lot more. And when he's in front of goal he often loses concentration and tries to make a mountain out of a molehill. Perhaps he should play to his strengths in a way that doesn't compromise the rest of the team.

Less that 300 there today. Says it all really. Absolutely f*cking shameful, although hardly surprising.
As for the stuff about "live to fight another day", do me a favour. Thats yet ANOTHER shite performance against a lower league side in a cup competition. We failed to beat a team two divisions lower than us, that didn't muster a single shot on target (barring the penalty we kindly provided them with) AT HOME. And thats despite US having scored in the first minute!
Sorry, but it's sh*t. And no amount of nonsense about confidence etc will make it otherwise. It clearly seems the majority of our side enjoy going out onto the pitch and making themselves look like absolute w*nkers time and again. And have done for about 4 years.
Where is your pride???
If you want to be a clown week in week out, sod off to Billy Smarts.
I'm sick and tired of this crap year in year out. It really is becoming very embarrassing.

on the plus side, I swerved the match today and took the Mrs to see 'Joseph' and it was bloody fantastic, especially with best seats in the house courtesy of a friend who's a main part in it.
Watching musicals is great fun, enough of this football malarkey.

It seems that the supporters are United. Reading through this thread, most people are saying the same thing over and over. What I don't understand is these things are blatantly obvious to us, but not as obvious to people who hold UEFA 'A' badges.
Although i'm all for giving people a chance,
2005/6 - 3 1 6 2006/7 - 14 9 19 2007/8 - 1 2 7
Total 18 12 32
18 wins in 62 matches. Add to that 1 win in cup competitions (Corinthian Casuals) and 4 defeat (plus todays draw) in competitive matches you get during IH's reign
P 68 W 19 D 13 L 36 - for the stattos out there thats a win percentage of less that 28%
Sorry to say it guys, but Hazel's record is one of a relegation team. I certainly agree with Sallycat that the team is lacking in confidence, but could it be something as straightforward as a simple lack of confidence in the manager.
But work permitting i'm going to get in my car and drive to Woodford on Monday, spend money on petrol, pay to get in, buy a burger and spend a decent amount of money, and I expect value for money. I'm doing this week in and week out for the club. I bought a season ticket to see the club I love week in, week out. I'm not alone in this. Plenty of other supporters do this, and much much more for the club. We are rewarding you with our loyalty and support, which in my case now is over 20 years worth. Nows the time to give us something back. You have the ability to, theres no question of that. Now's the time to get it right

It looked like Warren was limping when he was substituted. With a little more composure yesterday and doing the simple things we could have had 5 goals. We will win at Woodford. They had their one chance today!

I've slightly calmed down at last after yesterday's 'showing'. I wont retract my 'What the f*ck was that?' statement because quite frankly, what the f*ck was that?!
Come on lads, a bit of pride and a decent showing on Monday yeah? Please!

Yep. That's really going to help! Some of the players read this, you know. There IS a problem with confidence(do you really think they enjoy looking like "wankers"?), and reading stuff like that is hardly going to improve matters. OK sometimes we need to let off steam, totally understandable, but personally I prefer to do that in the pub because I think doing it on a public forum can only stir up sh*t and make matters worse. I talked to a few of the players afterwards as I said, and they are clearly not enjoying this. If we want the players to have pride-and I certainly do- then something is going to have to inspire that pride. It won't happen overnight. They won't all suddenly wake up tomorrow morning thinking "Yes! I'm so proud to be a Sutton player! We're gonna win 6-0 tonight!" and go out there and do it! There are a lot of things that could help with this pride thing, but most of them are out of our hands. But what we CAN do is give all the support we can. I know we don't feel like it at the moment (and FYI I feel as fed up and let down as you do: I'm not Pollyanna) but if all we're doing is insulting the players then do we really deserve results? We may give a lot of our money and time, but can we complain if our support isn't true support? I've always considered myself a true supporter but now I want to live up to that name by actually going out there and doing something supportive. We all know that our current form isn't OUR fault, but perhaps if we can show a united front and support this team constructively through thick and thin, then it might help inspire some of the pride and confidence that's lacking in the side. If all we do is complain, give up, slag people off etc, then how is that going to improve morale? It would be nice if we gave our players a reason to enjoy playing for Sutton.

Yes, excellent quote! The general opinion shows that the team is capable.
The tie isn't over.

I think Craig Watkins was certainly upset yesterday. When the final whistle went he was down on the floor looking as upset as we were!

Its quite evident from various comments on here that the players have the ability to win games of football,I dont want to fuel the situation but surely then the problem lies within the management,if the players have not got the motivation WHY,293 at the game is that the lowest competative crowd for a long time.and how diificult is it going to be on a Monday night away from home, some of the comments on here are nearly as bad as at down the road, except some have not held back there views, anyway leave it at that, and likewise Taz,s comment qoute of the year by a long way.
